Re: Army June 22
We'll be nipping over to the S&H's............its Mrs S&H's birthday tomorrow and want to drop her card off with a little something in it and I'm telling her to spend it on herself. Alfie's got enough to last him until he starts school.
Got the photo copied and got them framed. One for me and one for him. We look so angelic you'd never believe when we got older we used to knock bells out of each other when Mum wasn't looking. It could be worse, I could be filing.

Howdy again oh quiet ones..with having no Internet during the day I always expect to come up to loads of news :-(((
Anyway...9 years for herself is a big bit so I'll settle for that.
Got loads of photos sorted myself today...its so handy taking photos with the phone but a blooming nuisance getting them printed...note to self...need a trip to pharmacy to get a bundle.
Had the wee ones 'grad' yesterday...oh what a lovely day...got around to all the families and just had a lovely time...tired today tho.
Right..back to my book cos I guess I'm talking to myself...night folks xxContentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: Army June 22
9 years, you legend satz123!! You look like an angel in that photo :haha:
Are those ladies looking to go home happy Satz? I'd Imagine they are not unhappy, thinking that everything will be back to normal tomorrow.
Life can be cruel.. we may as well embrace it, ditch the boose and follow the heart, even if its all the way over to mayo!
Molly, you must have missed an entire page, it looks busy here all day!!
Eilse, Transition year is like a gap year that 15/16 year olds do.. its an entirely different curriculum giving them a taste of lots of different careers and experiences. They'll do a few trips, act, design, go on work experience, do charity/community work, talks from forensic scientists, medics, guards etc etc.. they get out of it what they put in.
Eldest did it over covid, so he missed out really.
My buddy was here earlier. She was so hungover she couldn't cope! It will be Tuesday or Wednesday before she functions properly, all for a few hours! Nothing to miss there :happy2:AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

Sarah : "and Nurse when am I going home" ?
Me: "tomorrow morning Sarah"
Sarah: "what time ?"
Me: "10:30 Sarah after breakfast"
Sarah: "who is collecting me"
Me: "Des"
Sarah: Thank you ...... wonders off happy ....
10 minutes later
Sarah : "and Nurse when am I going home" ?
Me: "tomorrow morning Sarah"
................... and on it goes. There are a regular 5 that do this all day.
I'd never be cruel to my ladies but it does get trying when you are captive behind a desk.
However is it a very humbling place to work with the result that I have very little tolerance for bullshit moans and groans - like MrS complaining about not being able to play golf or YS drinking himself to death.
With regard to YS - my attitude : everyone must make their own way in this world. I had to & I'm sure most on here did too.
I couldn't run back to Mammy when things went wrong - I had to figure it out and get help if needed.
I'm told I'm 'hard' - lacking empathy - but it's self preservation.
If YS is drunk - it's how it affects ME too.
If MrS can't play golf - I don't actually care .....
If my unemployed Niece (who stole from her grandmother) declared herself 'homeless' and complains she had to live in a Hotel for 6 months with her kid while she waits for a free house from the Council ?
Thats ok with me - she's lucky imo.
100% agree with you...the sense of entitlement nowadays really shocks me...its like another world to the one I grew up in. I was extremely lucky that my parents gave me the opportunity to go to college but after that I was completely on my own. If things went wrong no way did you land it on your parents...in fact my sister did but she was so unusual for the times that she stuck out like a sore thumb.
When we were moving house last few weeks ..and it was a very big move as in..from a big house to a smaller one so everything had to be filtered and assessed ....my daughter was expecting her 70 year old dad to floor her attic and cut her grass among many other things...I know it's not in the same league as YS or your niece but it's the attitude.
No one got help from the state unless they were literally destitute...now that's not right either but the expectation that everyone should get a home and an income from the state in a time of full employment???? Give me a break.
Poor old dears....just put a pillow over my head! Tho when my mum said to my sister 'who wants to live to be 90?'...the answer was 'someone who's 89 and three-quarters'Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: Army June 22
Good morning Troopers - a happy Monday to all!!
And huge congrats to our Satzy on 9 years!!! Fantastic!!!
Tabbers - good to see you. Agree 100% to what you said about waking up without a hangover. The truth is I don't always think about it when I wake up - it's a norm for me anymore - waking up not hungover. Just as not drinking is. Younger son and I were at a baptism last week and at the reception afterwards, someone at our table commented on the fact that I was only drinking water and/or cola. Younger son turned and looked at me and said - "My Mom doesn't drink. We had a bit of a rocky road but she hasn't drank alcohol in years and years." I was surprised at his comment but the look on his face - how proud he was of me - actually brought tears to my eyes. He had told me in the past how much he admires me for getting sober on my own. I am very, very grateful that I did it and that I am still sober. And drinking actually never ever crosses my mind. Simply something that I will never do again.

Okay, down off the soap box and back to work.
Just wanted to wish you all a smashing day!!!!

Re: Army June 22
The S&H worked part time at 16 in the ice cream and sweetie shop when he was 16 at a cinema.........tried to get into a music shop but because some of the CD & DVD were for over 18 so he was refused. Although he did get to meet Alice Cooper buying goodies for his family. He got Alice Cooper's autograph for me :welldone:
Jenny volunteered at our local hospice.
satz123..............you have to take care of yourself first and foremost. You're lovely caring person and bollocks to the others
Spent a lovely afternoon yesterday with my brother and his Mrs. Went from there's to the S&H's to drop off some cards and presents. Didn't get to see Alfie as him and his mum were fast asleep. She'd had a rough night with him wanting fed every 10 minutes. It could be worse, I could be filing.

It's not really said in my house or if it is I haven't heard it yet. Apart from MrS (who didn't see any problem - if I'd only stop drinking at home - FFS!!)
But my daughter & YS - I will often get a vibe of pride when we are out - which is lovely.

Thanks for sharing that Mary. God all the wasted days, certainly don’t miss that and no harm being reminded.
The others are right Satz, self care is very important. We cannot be responsible for another human being, no matter how much we love them. You have done everything in your power to help.
Pity you did not get a cuddle JC but there will be plenty in the future.
Work day today and woke at silly o’clock. It will be early to bed for me.
