Re: Army June 22

Good morning from a sunny Athens with 26C at the moment - will go to 30 later on. Perfect weather - I do love the heat!!

Mers - really looking forward to seeing you!! Where else will you be travelling except for Athens? So many beautiful places to visit in this country!!

Jacks - what does the lady cut the shapes from - paper, fabric, plastic? I like a mystery!!

Rusters - hope you have a smashing time!!

Molls - let us know how the move went. Have you started at your garden yet?

lifechange - first came to Greece in '73. Gawd - seems like a lifetime ago. Fell in love with the country, the people, even the language right from the start. Can't imagine living anywhere else, not even in Canada. (couldn't stand the weather) Your friend's place sound idyllic. Imagine having your own lake in a woodsy area. Bliss!!!

satz123 - please check in dear girl. Hope all is as well as can be.

Back to the emails - will catch up later.

Have the best day you can make it - it only comes around once!!!

Re: Army June 22

Morning,
A few of us spent a couple of weeks on Aegina in 1983............I've never stayed on the mainland apart from landing in Athens and then waiting for the ferry.

lifechange................we have the warmth but its blowing a gale. We get four seasons a day up here in the North. We did have a lovely hour or so last night in the garden just sitting and chatting as it was so mild. I did have pajamas and dressing gown on. Mr JC bought me a hanging egg chair for my birthday (off you go to google) so I was very comfy. The only thing I know is it isn't one of the hideously expensive ones.
It is warm today but its blowing a gale.
Enjoy your weekend away.
stirly-girly................absolutely no idea what or why she's cutting shapes and as I'm a relative newbie I haven't dared ask. I know the last ones she was doing were bunting for the Queens's Jubilee.............I doubt the Queen's going to do another 70 years so it can't be for that.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Not a lot to report. YS is still sober - day 3.
His sister says "get him in somewhere - I'll pay - he can't stay with you - and you can't throw him out - so there is only one option".

If this doesn't work not sure what will be next.
@stirly-girly you mentioned he needs an incentive to get sober - here we go :

These are the pros of getting sober

• Waking up each morning not shaking & feeling like death
• The trust & respect of his friends & family
• Not getting so drunk as to lose phone & wallet ( 3 times in these last few months )
• Not having to get your Dad out of bed to pay for taxi because of the above.
• Your Mam not having to go collect you because your legs gave up.
• Not falling over in the Pharmacy as you asked why the pharmacist was not giving you Librium (FFS!!)
• Back to Golf
• Back to Gym
• Back to Eat healthily
• a job
• a partner
• Maybe a family

All still possible if he wants it.

Pros of still drinking:

NONE

So very glad to hear that and may it continue. Hopefully that video worked. Maybe send it to him on his phone so he can reference it.

All good points, Satzy. Best ones are a job, a partner an a family. Someone to share his life with. Someone to love him for the person he is when AL is out of the picture. And him loving himself. And getting his self-respect back and realizing how good his life could be without AL. So hoping that things go well.

Baby Alfie was born this morning weighing in at 8lb 2oz ( or 3.719 kilos). He'll be home tomorrow.
Found about lunchtime but by the time we'd rung family I was zorsted and after tears of joy I had to peel my phone off my ear and I needed a nap.
I'm a Grandma. :eek-new:
They're home some time tomorrow so we're going over to theirs on Sunday.........which also is the S&H's birthday.

Molls - that is just so surreal. I often say to MrS Remember M from Balbriggan when I'm telling him something. I'll have to change that to "remember M - who lived in Balbriggan- and moved to Mayo" :haha:

The house 2 doors up went for almost 1/2 million - I've said to MrS - time to sell up. We're scrimping with no money for renovations & sitting on that kind of money when we could just move. Trouble is I couldn't move too far from Dublin at the moment because:

a) My mother & sister and the rest of them (!) are here.
b) I'd be scared in a house in the country on my own.
c) I'd miss my job for interaction with others not related to me.
d) I'd miss shops. I LOVE shopping.

So I will continue to look for a 2 bed - ready to live in - not too remote - maybe in South east.
Mr S has romantic notions of moving to the wilds of West Cork but near a pub :egad: - Jesus !!
That would be just too much of a change for me.

Reckon you'd get a lot more for your house...in the last 12 months the valuer upped the value of ours by 25%....academic cos we aren't selling...but that is surreal too!

Morning all..and welcome to day 2 baby Alfie!

Lovely to wake up to animal and bird sounds...hope I never tire of that. Talking of clothes and shopping...I went through a clothes buying spree when I got newly sober...sent at least half to charity shop...left the old house with 95 million hangers....what have we not got??
Hangersosteroops: trip to Penny's necessary...just maybe not today ;-)

After hearing a report on radio.
I refuse to buy in so called 'fast fashion' shops with no conscience any more after seeing where ALL the returned / unsold clothes go.
To landfill - not even in this country but some poor country are left to deal with it.
Literally TONS of clothes exported daily.

So going to buy sustainably from now on. Save the planet for young Alfie & Co.

Good morning everyone

Wonderful news to wake up to, huge congratulations JackieClaire.

Heard that about the clothes. Don’t buy them cause they do nothing for the bulges. Have some of the stuff I wear to work 10 years or more. Hate shopping so that could have a lot to do with it too.

Was 30 degrees here yesterday. Hot! Island is full of history, did the hop on, hop off bus and today We are having lazy day. Flying back tomorrow.
