Molls - that's illegal - just heard a solicitor say that. You are entitled , within reason, to take annual leave of 21 days when it suits you.
AND also in Ireland the holiday year is April - March.
Not Jan - Dec which most employers allow us to think. That is law & non-negotiable.

Satz, mid September does seem late for a summer vacation! positive thing is you miss the crowds..but of course you want the heat of summer.. i guess Dublin doesn't get so warm, does it? you are in Dublin, right? what do you do for work?..
Just on the Dublin border Ellsie in Co. Kildare.
I work in a Nursing Home which is in Dublin but only 10 minutes drive from home. I'm Reception + Admin for Nurses & management & I love it.

I love our climate but lots like hotter...like Benjy (Satz)
Ah Molls after all these years ? I hate the heat. MrS LOVES it.
I love Greece so I put up with heat on holiday but delighted when it turns cloudy.
I also love our fresh cool temperate weather ..... could deffo NOT live in heat.

My DNA tells me I'm 98% Irish remember - ain't built for it with paleish skin & freckles :haha:

Same here. 98% Irish dna and also Hate the heat, would go back to Malta but only in spring or autumn.

Back at work today so just quick check in. Where is granny JC, dying to hear all about little fella.

hi all!!

maybe i'm 98% Irish as well, as i'm always happiest with cooler temps.. and love it when i'm in a hot place and it clouds over!:happy2: actually, growing up for 11 years in the desert, i had enough sun for many lifetimes.. and back in the day sunscreen wasn't used as it should be so my skin is quite sensitive now in older age.. will have to do a dna test!

looked up Balbriggan and it looks really pretty.. right on the water isn't it? is that where you're from Molly? and i take it you have 3 grandchildren? i love red currants but they are sour! and the seeds bother some people.. we mostly made jams/compotes/relishes.. you could make a nice red currant syrup to mix with sparkling water for a summer drink.. lots of good cake recipes... my friend freezes a lot for the winter months. with 6 bushes you'll have LOADS.. sounds so nice, your new place..

Rusty, i can imagine Malta was HOOOOT!.. did you have a nice time despite the heat? do you like to swim?

Satz, that would be the job for me if i weren't cooking or living in Germany.. i love Germany and the language, but they tend to lack a lightness/sense of humour which i can imagine you could bring into such a workplace in Ireland? maybe i'm wrong.? here everything tends to be so darn serious. 10 minutes to Dublin sounds perfect..

Just in
We had a little party out in the sunshine up at my Mother's nursing home for her 92nd birthday.
God she's as deaf as a post but wants to know everything that is said.
4 years ago when she went in there she was not meant to last 'till Christmas - now she's as chirpy as a 10 year old. Delighted with all the attention.
We all went including Rosie the dog.
She still runs away when my mother appears. Can't explain it. Hates it up there.

The coughing frightens her. But wasn't a lot of that.
Do dogs smell sickness & medication I wonder. Probably .... no other explanation.

Evening...thanks Elsie..a few ideas for the redcurrants anyway...ANYTHING else I'd have loved...any or all berries!!
Sorry Benjy...presumed cos you were going twice a year you liked heat...today was as hot as I like...it was about 28 over here...had a smashing swim in the lake and just had dinner and I'm ready for bed!
I lived in Balbriggan all my adult life Elsie...just got sick to death of Dublin and the east coast...loving this so far but I'll wait till I've a winter under my belt to be sure!

Right..big day tomorrow...ride-on mower and Sky tele arriving...still like the little luxuries!! Xx

I think Alfie will be the most adored baby in history :heartbeat: I've had 3 sections and they do have their advantages (sitting like a queen for a few weeks!). Adds to the recovery, but hopefully she'll bounce back.

Was in the pub twice since I logged on here last! One was a proper sat night with drunken idiots and noone could hear anyone so it was just a shouting night. Lovely.
The other was the Porters house in town for grub and a pint, with some diddly idle music thrown in, after we did a brilliant walking tour of Dublin (still dragging out my dad's big birthday!). That was v good.

Last time we were in Germany lifechange, it was the year of a massive heatwave too. Hit 40 the day we flew home. We were afraid to get out of the air-conditioned car! We would sit there for ages planning the 3 min trip to the shop/airport or whatever.
Eldest is a proper bright red head with zero pigment and the rest of us are not much better.. I'm not sure greece in July was very wise.

How's YS doing satz123? Day by day?

Molly we will be looking forward to the good life blog now from you.. how long a drive there is it?

Love shopping too but hate everything about the fast fashion Industry. Hard with 2 teenage daughters, their age group just buy disposal clothes, they are so cheap. Middle chid did a project on fast fashion last year and it shocked us both! Not enough to curb the Penny's trips

Congratulations JC , babies are gorgeous, especially grandchildren.
Sunny day here and I am off to Moel Famau for a hilly walk.
Still feeling exhausted with my meds. but probably better than having a heart attack or stroke so I will stick with the treatment.
Just about to hang out the washing before I go off to Wales.

Morning all.
Molls I'm so jealous of your move. I'm stuck here rattling around in a 4 bed. That will soon become a money-pit and with no funds to fix it up.
I think I will seriously start looking for my 2 bed in the country.

The stuff I'd miss though:
The proximity to everything if we ever can't drive.
The outlet & satisfaction that work gives me.
Liffey Valley
The gym
:haha: all very important ....

Dealing with YS is indeed day to day as we wait for funding for treatment.

Yesterday as we were having the 'party' outdoors at the nursing home.
MrS pipes up
"all that's missing now is a cold pint"

Everyone went silent because YS was there too
But that is what we're dealing with here - the bloody pint has to be at every occasion in MrS's and a huge % of Irish people's minds.

His directions to a place are given in relation to the proximity of a pub.

Joe used to be like that too...alcohol was so important and he nearly judged people by 'they are great craic with a pint ' or 'don't like him he's a messy drinker'.

I remember a really big moment in my life...I was engaged to him...no issue with booze back then..and himself and his brother were discussing somebody....that he was a great lad..Great fun and 'he doesn't even DRINK'....I genuinely was horrified that that was how they categorised people..so much so that I wondered was I doing the right thing marrying him!
What treatment for YS are you waiting for? Does he want it?

We're about 2.5 hours from Dublin Mary...easily doable in a day if you had to but hopefully we'll usually have bed and board with the sprogs.

I did worry that our decision was wrong but so far so very very good. If you do downsize Benjy I would say buy somewhere with plenty storage...the 'STUFF' you accumulate from mothers and children and Penneys:welldone:

Right..Best get up...hi MrsA...and all to come. How you finding the not drinking Elsie now that you've a few weeks under your belt?

He's done Primary treatment - so secondary treatment somewhere. Have our eye on a place in Cork.
Does he want it ? Says he does and I think he means it.

To be honest I don't care f he wants it - or how much he wants it ............ it is his only option now & he knows it.
His binges have reached a dangerous level and he needs help to get serious sober time under his belt ..... he'll end up in hospital, jail or dead.

I don't think another binge / detox is left in any of us.

Good morning everyone

Keeping everything crossed for you Satz. Downsizing really is a problem in Ireland, they do not build enough one or two bedroomed houses when building a new development. Loads of people would downsize if they had the option in the area they have spent all their lives.

I’m heading west again tomorrow. Trying to have a bed delivered and it’s a nightmare. Will be buying local in future. Online at Harvey Norman assured me it was no problem but it is!

Waves to everyone, on coffee break at work.
