Just home from the west. Horrendous weather down there but lovely here. You are on the right coast Molly. Hubbys fishing competition has been cancelled. Daughters are moody mares. Speaking of mares, daughter has just bought one. The pony she’s had for years is 23 so she can’t do too much with him except hacks. On about breeding etc etc. Have no intention of becoming unpaid groom. Will be taking a lot of trips down west. Night all.

Re: Army June 22
Morning all - just in / out 'cos I'm working today.
I hesitate to talk about YS - but week 3 almost complete.
HOWEVER he is very articulate when sober & now getting advice from a counsellor that to do something every day (AA meeting, or SMART recovery, 2 hours with him twice a week) would be enough to stay on track and that treatment may not be necessary.
Call me a bad parent - but I want him out of here so I don't have to live on my nerves when he goes out for a cycle or a run or even to walk the dog. All of these little trips have involve drinking in the past.
We've been here before many many times so I have my doubts.

Re: Army June 22
Good morning everyone
Don’t blame you Satz, it has been a roller coaster for you. Is it just the counsellor saying this or YS?
Live about 30/40 minutes from Dublin in the next county LC and it is very rural. My girls are 28 and 29. The 29 year old lives in Norway and the 28 year old lives at home. Instead of buying a house she’s buying horses! Like Satz, feel I should have some peace at this stage. Hubby is nearing retirement and has bought a fisherman’s cottage in the west. Am using that as my bolt hole.
Was meant to be hiking in the galtees this weekend but leader had Covid and it has affected his breathing so he is not up to it so cancelled.
Hope you all have a nice weekend. Satz will have hers later. Your day sounds nice LC.

Morning
satz123.............you're not a bad mother. You've turned cartwheels for young Satz.
Up sharp (well for me anyway). With moving everything around over the last 3 years I found a photo of me and my little brother. I must be five and he's around 10 months so we're going to get it copied and framed..........Its a photographic place and they shut at 12 on a Saturday so better get a shift on.It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: Army June 22
Evening from the train station house. Daughter home from france. Sisters away so her 3 teens are between here and my folks. Dreaming about an hour to myself (although i should be grateful a horse wasn’t thrown in :thanks
Loads of daughters in the army lifechange, your in good company. Eldest is my son, less complicated.
So is there a preschool before 7? Much better age to start. 5 is certainty more common now in ireland, especially with preschool grants.
We have a Transition Year also in secondary school that is mandatory in a lot of schools, so the age leaving is increasing here, which is good.
Have you told YS this satz123? That he needs to go, in the nicest possible way? Downsizing to that 1 bed townhouse might solve a few problems.
That photo sounds lovely JackieClaire.AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

Re: Army June 22
Morning Army!!
have i mentioned how horrible the weather is here?:congratulatory: i actually wouldn't mind the 30° if it wasn't so darned humid! yesterday i was a sticky mess.. i will say, that not drinking alcohol makes it a bit more bearable!!
Rusty, shame you couldn't go hiking! googled those mountains and they look gorgeous! hiking is my favourite outdoor/exercise activity.. are the galtees near your new place in the west? are you also in Mayo county? hopefully you'll be able to go soon..
Mary, most of the kids here go to Kita (a sort of daycare/kindergarten/preschool) anywhere from the age of 1-3 or 4.. in the former east, they often started at 6 months so that the moms could go back to work.. my kids started around 3-4 then they went to a year long Brückenklasse (like a transition class-- literally bridge class) before the 1st grade.. some of the schools start at 6, but it's also dependent on which month your bday falls. i'm wondering how a Transition Year works in secondary school?? what age is your son?
that's a tough one, Satz.. i'll say that a month ago i was wishing so much that i could somehow go to an inpatient program for a month. has YS attended a program before? i'm guessing he doesn't really want to go? or would at least prefer remaining at home? i'm sure not in a position to give any sort of input.. i am thinking of you all a lot.. very difficult situation..
Molly, have a wonderful, relaxing Sunday!!
we're headed to my bf's parents to pull some weeds, eat cake and look at old photo albums.. we looked at the first 8 of about 30 when i was there last time!!! hope their house is cool..
see you all later..xx

Re: Army June 22
Good morning ladies and a happy hangover free sober Sunday morning to you all. It is always a good morning to take a moment out to ourselves and to be grateful for where we are and be proud at what we have achieved to get here. For despite all of life’s trials and tribulations it still wonderful to be given another shot at living a life free from the prison bars of alcoholic drinking at least that’s how it feels to me when I actually stop and take stock.Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

While in work each time I wrote the date 'something' stirred in the gray mass that is my brain. It quickly left when 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon' played and I was asked for the 100th time
Sarah : "and Nurse when am I going home" ?
Me: "tomorrow morning Sarah"
Sarah: "what time ?"
Me: "10:30 Sarah after breakfast"
Sarah: "who is collecting me"
Me: "Des"
Sarah: Thank you ...... wonders off happy ....
10 minutes later
Sarah : "and Nurse when am I going home" ?
Me: "tomorrow morning Sarah"
................... and on it goes. There are a regular 5 that do this all day.
I'd never be cruel to my ladies but it does get trying when you are captive behind a desk.
However is it a very humbling place to work with the result that I have very little tolerance for bullshit moans and groans - like MrS complaining about not being able to play golf or YS drinking himself to death.
With regard to YS - my attitude : everyone must make their own way in this world. I had to & I'm sure most on here did too.
I couldn't run back to Mammy when things went wrong - I had to figure it out and get help if needed.
I'm told I'm 'hard' - lacking empathy - but it's self preservation.
If YS is drunk - it's how it affects ME too.
If MrS can't play golf - I don't actually care .....
If my unemployed Niece (who stole from her grandmother) declared herself 'homeless' and complains she had to live in a Hotel for 6 months with her kid while she waits for a free house from the Council ?
Thats ok with me - she's lucky imo.
