I admire that you keep trying --- I feel you need to truly examine your relationship with alcohol tho - cos I do think that after a while you convice yourself that you are 'alright' --- key to the problem there Kev!!!
Anyway -- good luck and if you need chat or support -- we are all here for you -- that's the point of the site --Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011
contentedly NF since 8/04/14

Kev if the cost of alcohol is a disincentive - great !Originally posted by scotskev81 View PostThought of the day.

Never was for me - 'cos once you have money what's to stop you.
I would say also focus on :
Damage to your liver (that will have a knock-on effect EVENTUALLY to your general health.)
Damage to your work
Damage to your relationships
Damage to your self-esteem
A lot of these may not have happened YET ........ but they will...............
Yours Sincerely

I have to post something once a day, ideally a different reason to a recent one.
Will end up repeating myself but that's ok 🙂

Re: Doing sober now
I've done a fair amount of research into this and alochol is so incredibly bad for you body. It effects/damages so many systems, from various organs to hormones to the brain and nervous system. It's left me with a myriad of health conditions and while some are reversible some seem not to be (the magic idea that quitting drinking would just solve everything unfortunately isn't reality)... so: much better to quit before these things crop up.Damage to your liver (that will have a knock-on effect EVENTUALLY to your general health.)Last edited by Mulburry; January 26, 2023, 10:09 PM.

Re: Doing sober now
A friend just told me about a relative who had recently died of cirrhosis. The woman's family were shocked. They did not know she had it. She had been diagnosed but never told them, not even her husband. I suspect she didn't want to tell them because she didn't want them pestering her to quit drinking. She was only in her 50's. That's what alcohol can do for you. As I listened to the story I realized uncomfortably how easily that could have been me.Dill
Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!
If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Re: Doing sober now
Ya me too. With my liver not in great shape, I realized that I had a choice heading down that road or the one I'm currently on (and to be honest the former seemed almost like the easier one at time) but I'm sure glad I went the other way.Originally posted by dill View PostShe was only in her 50's. Not sure about cirrhosis as that's a very advanced stage (basically very close to liver failure), but you can certainly can have fairly progressed liver disease without any symptoms. If you're at all worried (goes for anyone) best to get a routine blood test, that should provide some indicators of what shape your liver's in.Were there any symptoms?
