    Personal Opinion!

After two weeks on Topamax. My personal opinion... It is like going through the breathing classes prior to giving birth. You expect that it is going to help alleviate the pain.. In fact it only gives you something else to focus on. The pain is still very much there. I can remember my husband in my face saying to breath, breath.. I wanted to hit him in the nose so bad!!! It worked somehow, it momentarily took my mind off of the pain of child birth, wanting instead to hit him in the nose. Now, kind of like drinking. I feel like crap on a daily basis taking the Topamax. I feel shaky, dopy, cannot sleep, cannot spell! Want to lay in bed, who wants to drink feeling like this?

    Juliean,
Have you tried the herbal & or vitamins that were suggested in the MWO book ? A lot of those herbal pills help relive the tention you might feel durning withdrawal. I take the Kudzu , Milk Thistle, L-Glutamine, & Evening Primrose ( This one is very good for a calming effect.). You can also take Calms Forte to help with your sleep. Check the store out on the MWO Home page. IAD

        Julie,
those side effects will pass but you do need to ride them out if you can. Some people stop because of it- can't drive, perform at work etc...AAnd yes what dose are you on? I know the book says go up 25mg per week but if it is leveling you, go slower. Some people only stay at 25 or 50 anyway depending on how they feel. Good luck! :h
Sunny days, sweeping the, clouds away. On my way, to where the air is sweeeet!!! Can you tell me how to get, how to get to......LOL

I went from 25 to 50 today after almost two weeks at 25 and am not going to repeat 50 tomorrow. I can't function. I drank too much last night for the first time since starting. I could have easily quit after one drink and for the life of me can't figure why I didn't. I want to give up alcohol for the rest of my life so I never have to take another Topamax. I know better because I have failed at quitting long term. But I hate the way this drug makes me feel. Lousy, lousy, lousy. this is not an easy program or a magic pill. It is complex. The supplements don't fix the side affects. I'm taking all of them. And L-Glut help wake me up but I am still in a fog and can't think, feel depressed and can't seem to get anything done.

I had to ride out the dopey symptoms for almost a month. I finally ordered the adrafinil and it helped. By the time I got it the dopiness was just about gone anyway. If the Topa is helping you avoid alcohol you have to decide for yourself which is more important to you. Most of the side effects are temporary.

Julieann, try Trazodone its a non-addictive anti-depressant that acts as a sleeping pill that is often administered in drug treatment centers. It helps with depression gives alcoholics a great night sleep. I take it almost every night.
