Lithium carbonate and Risperdal
Lithium orotate (sp?) is supposed to help with cravings and be calming. I think it is related to lithium carbonate and both are natural but many people think they are a dangerous substance. I have never heard of Risperdal. You can google it.
I'm sure others can help you more.
What kind of rehab was it?Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Lithium carbonate and Risperdal
thanks B
It was for alchol but insurance would only pay for 3 day's (what a joke !!) then I was right back around all the same old triggers. I guess mabey it was more detox than rehab. I am think that I am getting more help here in a few days here than all the meds and doc's there.

Lithium carbonate and Risperdal
Lithium is a mood stabilizer and Risperdal I believe is an antidepressant. What you are taking is supposedly a derivative of lithium but doctors (damn know-it-alls) claim it is no more helpful on mood than a sugar pill. Be careful if your doctor puts you on the standard lithium (I wouldn't even do it) and the risperdone; both have *major* side effects. Too much lithium can be toxic on your liver and will screw with your thyroid, among other things. It's a good idea to google Risperdal, but among the side effects I know of are drowsiness and weight gain.
Not to come across as a know-it-all myself, but I'm bipolar and have been on practically every medication available and most side effects are absolutely intolerable.

there's a number of us who are on LIthium Carbonate and an antidepressant - in fact there's a number of threads here that discuss it. I take both. The Lithium has made a huge difference to me and how I tackle the drink problem.
According to my Dr there is new research which indicates that lithium carb is a new treatment for alcoholism... so far, it's working for me.It always seems impossible until it's done....

Risperdal is what they call a "mood stabilizer" - it started out as an anti-psychotic used to treat schizophrenics and then moved on to treat people who were "bi-polar". I was on it for a very short time after the psychotic break on Effexor - couldn't breathe and had WILD mood swings. Be careful, that's all I'll say.

You don't need to be scared of lithium orotate. It is supposed to be easier taken up in your body and therefore can be used in very low doses. There is some controversy about it, but I think the main conclusion is that it is safe at low doses and can be used as a substitute for anti-depressants without all those awful side effects.
See Holistic Healing for a long thread on this. Toughintexas knows a lot about it. I think she said it helped a lot with the cravings. At least most people notice a calming effect from it. It has something to do with the GABAs.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
