    A MESSAGE FOR EVERYONE

    Ok guys,

I'm calling on all those who have followed the MWO programme. I'm about to start out, I live in the UK and I don't want to get a prescription from my doc for meds (topa not available here anyway). So of the 3 main pharma interventions available, Campral, Topamax and Naltrexoline (spelt wrong I know), which would you rate - on a scale from 1 to 10 according to:

    Effectiveness (craving reduction)
    Cost (online procurement)
    Number of side-effects (1 being none - 10 being a lot)
Severity of side effects (1 being barely noticable - 10 being unbearable)

I know this requires some thought but based on the number of replies I receive, I can crunch the numbers and post a summary for future use,

Thanking you all SO MUCH in advance for your input,

    jj x

    A MESSAGE FOR EVERYONE

    Hi jj

I have never taken anything but topamax. I just started it about a month ago. See my thread on this forum "I just started topa this week" Lots of people have been putting in their comments about topa.

I order my topa online from River Pharmacy, and it costs about $1 a day, much cheaper than booze - I am AF and it is so much easier with the topa. The side effects are not bad at all for me so far, but others can't tolerate them as well. All in all, I think topa is a bargain and a miracle drug. I would recommend it.

    Hope this helps.
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.

      A MESSAGE FOR EVERYONE

      Hi JJ,
I think they all work, but you have to find the one that "jives" with you the best. I have done Campral and Topamax. I think the Topamax has "immediate" relief for the cravings whereas Campral is more of an accumulative thing. They all have some side effects, and there again.... you have to gauge that on your own level. Campral tends to give you diarrhea, so if you have a tendency to be constipated, then this might cure two things at once! I personally could not leave the house... LOL. But other than that, I felt great, but didnt give it enough chance to "work" because of the not leaving the house issue....ha.

So then I moved to Topamax. I noticed within 20 minutes of taking it the effect. If Topa serves its purpose, then you will almost have to force yourself to drink while on it. BUT, it can make you feel kinda crappy too... low energy, wanting to sleep a lot, and generally wanting to go to bed before you can finish your drink. So I am not taking any meds at the moment, but am really trying to take the vitamins here, the ALL ONE, and am doing a super healthy vegetarinan diet (which is completely new to me), but is helping more than just about anything with the drinking. My mind is just more clear. Hope this helps a little?

Good question... could you play the shoe salesman and suggest something new? Preferrably some spiffy flip flops with a french manicure? That is what I wear every day. Pumps hurt my feet and am a student now...

JJ... please excuse the duck's rudeness at attacking my avatar rather than addressing your question...

Seriously, look into some drastic diet changes, meaning a way of life, not for losing weight. Research what we were meant to eat, and start eating that way, and you will watch your desire for alcohol go down the tubes....

I purchased Vivitrol today, and cannot comment on effectiveness yet. I can tell you that the cash price is 850.00 US, per month.

              A MESSAGE FOR EVERYONE

              Hi all,

Topomax made me angry, so I only ended up taking only 1 on one day. Now I have 1 full and 1 almost full bottle in a drawer that I got from Meds Mex, and I waited almost a month for it to arrive, go figure. It was a bad day at work and those happen so often I could not risk chewing somebody's head off for no good reason. I am sticking to the holistic stuff now, and reading lots of books and of course, posts! :h Suz

                Hi,
I took Campral for a couple of months and I am afraid that while I suffered no side effects I did not not notice any benefits either.
