    Naltrexone vs. Topa

I have been taking Naltrexone for approx 2 1/2 weeks, but I do not think it is working well for me. Has anyone taken Naltrexone and then switched to Topa (with success)? How long should I be off of Naltrexone before starting the Topa?:thanks:

    Gourmet,

I notice no one responded to this. I guess none of us know.

Is there anyway you could ask a doctor? Just to be safe? Or perhaps call a pharmacist, sometimes they will answer questions like that.

      Dear Cindi,

I'm on my second day Naltrexone. Sort of doing a double think here. Am on 175 mgs Topa and taking 50 mgs Naltrexone, just to back up. And it seems to work.

But I don't want to put up hopes to hight. It's just experimental. I also noticed, my mistake for relapsing over the last few weeks was that my sugar intake was way up. And that must have driven up the cravings.

I tried naltrexone for quite a while. Drank the whole time and finally stopped with it because it did me no good. I have not tried topa yet, am having some good results with campral and kudzu. Topa's there as a contingency, but doesn't seem necessary right now.

I am drinking right through the Naltrexone - it seems it should help with all I have read, but I guess I am one of those that it is just not my drug. I will read about campral. I do take the Kudzu. Thanks!

              Naltrexone vs. Topa

              Hi Gourmet

I have been taking Topa before and it worked well, now I'm seeing doctor, he's given me Naltrexone, NaltrexoLite Plus (see my post headed this for details) and also a script for Topa, so he seems to think it's OK to take all 3! I've just to alter the dosages as NPlus was knocking me out (plus huge sugar cravings and hunger!!)

Haven't quite started them all yet, and must confess am a bit reluctant to take such a cocktail, but if it helps (and he swears by it) then I shall!

                Naltrexone vs. Topa

Hi Gourmet. For me the combination of no sugar, 175 mgs Topa, 50 mgs Natrexone works. NO cravings, honest. And I sleep like a log.

Important is really to reduce your sugar load, as sugar drives up cravings, that's what I really noticed in my case. I did really well on Topa, but last month I started adding desserts to my diet on a regular basis - this combined with a lot of stress sort of increased the sugar levels in my body, which drove up the cravings for alcohol for some reason.

                  Paddy,

In the book Seven Weeks to Sobriety the author discusses the link between alcoholism and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which is exacerbated by a high carb/high sugar diet.

                    Dear All,

I dropped Naltrexone from my drug diet and I'm just taking Topa 175 mgs now. I just got really tired and found that after all taking both drugs didn't make a big difference.

Thank you, Paddy for reminding us about the importance of giving up sugar- you are so right! It does make all the difference in the world- I will also add to not overdue on caffeine- or give it up completely, but not all at once if one is a regular user because it causes massive headaches when you remove caffeine suddenly if you drink it everyday.
