Has anyone tried chantix for alchohol?
I am also taking Chantix. I started it and took it for 3 weeks a while back and had absolutely no interest in alcohol. I stopped because of some side effects. Nausea and trouble sleeping.
I know make certain to take it with food. This does help with the nausea. I also take it very early in the AM and then again in the late afternoon. This seems to help with sleep. So far I have only been on it for 5 days, this time.A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes~Cinderella

I am considering taking Chantix...I have some at home but heard a commercial for it and the side effects sound scarey. I already have trouble sleeping and I don't do well with meds.
It's interesting...I wondered if it would curb my appetite for alcohol as well as nicotine. It is somewhat encouraging to hear that it does.

I took chantix for a month. I guess I was expecting miracles. It curbed my appetite for alcohol but It didn't keep me from thinking about drinking. I took the sups, listened to the CD's and after a month I'm back to drinking.

champix
I have just started taking this. I only smoke when I drink but when I drink I binge drink and binge smoke. Two bottles of wine in one go at least every 3/4 days accompanied by a 20 pack of cigs. It is basically a dual binge addiction. I cannot drink without smoking and I never smoke without drinking. Weird I know. Anyway even though I dont smoke every day I still thought I would try the champix as I noted that it was also supposed to have a similar effect on alcohol cravings and my addictions are completely intertwined. I read all about the bad side effects and it scared the crap out of me but I have never suffered from depression (other than hungover depression that is) and but if I start to feel depressed I will stop taking it. Anyway thats the background. Now the effects so far.
I took the first tablet yesterday and I did feel a little weird afterwards but thats probably because it stimulates the nicotine receptors to think they are receiving nicotine. My body was probably thinking huh how come we are getting nico with our deal friend alco.... but anyway there was no real unpleasant side effects. I didnt have any alcohol (or cigs) but that was no big deal as it was only 2 days since the last binge (Monday - 9 hours of solid drinking and chain smoking). I took the 2nd tablet today at same time with water and food. Today being day 3 since the previous binge I would usually be hanging out for drink and cig in the evenging and I also had a mad busy day which tends to makes me hyper which makes me want to drink and smoke but come 5 o'clock nothing....
absolutely no desire to drink or smoke whatsoever. Tonight I went to watch my son's late water polo game (normally I get someone else to do it if its late as it will eat into my drinking time), took the dog for a walk and had tea and toast when I came home. I am now typing this. Its thurs night which is usually a big night for the other booze hags that I hang around with (like finds like) and I am jober as a sudge for once!
Anyway I know it is early days and I may just be imagining all this but I might even have a new life if this continues. I dont think I will up the dose from day 3 seeing as I dont smoke except when I drink and see what happens.
Will keep you posted.

I am taking Chantix to quit smoking, have been for three weeks.
I checked into detox and started Antabuse and Gabapentin.
I am currently sober and working on day 17.
I am not sure if it is one over the other but I am sober.

boozehag
I know you posted a while ago, but I wanted to say...I think we are twins separated at birth. Our habits and patterns are almost identical. As a matter of fact tonight the thought of drinking or smoking is repulsive to me...It's been 2 days, but within the next couple of days I will want to binge again..can't figure it out sometimes. I am interested to hear how the Chantix worked out for you. I am a little 'fraid of it, because I have had issues with depression.

Ok, I am trying to learn my way around this site, and would love to have any replies on some help curbing my drinking, it is not horrible, but I hate drinking every night 2-5 drinks. I know it is hard on me and my health, and my brain even feels fuzzy sometimes. I would so love to curb back and slow the h down. Help.

re: has anyone tried chantix for alcohol?
hi everyone - i started chantix 4 weeks ago, and it's been like a miracle drug for me. i, like many of you, only smoked when i drank......the 2 went hand-in-hand. but, i did BOTH every night and could easily smoke 10 cigs and a bottle or two of wine. everyday after work, i could hardly WAIT to get home and open a bottle and light up a cig..........my mouth would almost be watering the whole way home, and a voice in my head had almost been screaming for both since around 3 pm in the afternoon.
since starting chantix, it's like that voice has just been silenced. i don't know any other way to describe it. the desire for both has DRAMATICALLY decreased. for me, it did take three weeks for me to completely feel the full effects. last week i did have 3 cigs total all week, although they didn't taste good. and i had several glasses of wine......each time on different occasions, tho......not in one sitting. this week, i've had none of either.
the only side effect i've had is nausea. i do take it with food, but continue to feel nauseated for about 15 mins after i take it. this week i tried taking a few peptmo-bismal tabs with it, and that has helped a lot.
i would recommend chantix to anyone. i am very pleased so far !:new:

Yep ditto both desires have gone out the window with no cravings or anything. I am off them now after 30 days and seeing as I dont want to smoke I dont want to drink either - its so cool I am like a new person. But can it really be this easy take a little pill and I am cured of a lifetime of binge drinking/smoking? Seems so. I would/could never have done it without the tablets. They are being advertised here in the newspapers (full page spread) at the moment with a free starter pack (a month's supply I think) so obviously they are putting a big push on the marketing. Mind you the list of the side effects did take up half the page!

Has anyone tried chantix for alchohol?
I just started Chantix to help with alcohol cravings. I took for 3 days and felt like it was giving me restless leg syndrome at night as I would toss and turn most of the night. I stopped taking it and the cravings were there. Not sure if the meds were helping or if it was the thought of taking something that helped. I started back on it today. We will have to see if it helps. Worried that alcohol addiction will go back to food addiction. Doctor seems to think it will help.

Has anyone tried chantix for alchohol?
Hi Sillygrits
The first few days I had weird dreams but they went after that. I only took the .5m dose after lunch every day and it totally took away alcohol cravings. Maybe its just me but at that low dose I didnt have any side effects. It just gave me a chance to get 30 days AF under my belt to kick start me. I am off it now and I can feel the cravings for AL have come back now but I am strong enough now to resist them myself (so far so good) but it was definitely the pills that got me going.
Keep us posted.

They are not weird as in bad weird just very vivid - mine were actually quite funny/enjoyable - I dreamt about people I had not seen in years. I would say that is the least of the side effects. Could also be just nicotene withdrawal.
