For me it was always the first drink. Maybe that's why it took so many years for me to get addicted to alcohol. All subsequent drinks actually killed the buzz. Many years ago I wrote a passage in a short story about cognac in the snifter, swirling, studying the "legs", prolonging the anticipation of the first sip and the washing away of all things not worth eperiencing. Precisely when I used to drink for pleasure, one was enough. Back in the day. Now I will find the same pleasure in sunsets and workouts on "reinforcement" days. I've taken my nal and soon will begin drinking to feed the beast so no more posting for me tonight.

In the US, we have floride added to much of our drinking water, iodine added to our table salt and vitamine D added to our milk. These are added to make us healtier.
Would be it beneficial to add a trace amount of Naltrexone to all alcoholic beverages proportional to the alcohol content? Of course, why would the adult beverage industry want to contribute to the cure of alcoholism?

An amusing statement in EsKapa's book was when Sinclair was questioned as to the benefit of counselling for patients that are taking Naltrexone. He reply was "those rats never listened to a thing I said.".
But that statement alone defines the nature of this disease more than any other. We are not suffering from a disease of the soul or metal mal-adjustment. We have inherited a proclivity to create an abundance of endorphine when we drink or even anticipate drinking an alcoholic beverage. And we are curable!

I agree that I don't think I have any deep-seated psychological issues for which counseling and psychiatric voodoo are needed. I started drinking more heavily/regularly after a bad breakup in college and it simply became a bad habit. You sound like you're in the same boat.
Some people, though, do use booze to "escape" something. Those people might benefit from the voodoo.

A note to those indulging in smoke while on nal... one study done to see if nal would be effective to reduce/cure weed addiction found that nal enhanced the effect of weed and was counter indicated to help people stop or cut back....

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
Hi all,
I joined here a few months back, when I was excited about the Topa and other meds to help reduce craving. Bought the book, drugs, hypno CD's, and the whole nine yards. Unfortunately, I discovered after only a couple of weeks that the Topa made me very weepy and depressed, and did nothing to prevent my craving and drinking cycles - despite close adherence to the program.
I just heard about naltrexone and the Sinclair method recently. I ordered the meds, and spent the weekend reading the book. It is so exciting, and makes absolute, perfect sense to me. Somehow, I just knew 'in my gut' that there was a pharmacological answer to this issue. . .and I also suspected that the Big Business of alcohol treatment may have been suppressing such info. Does anyone besides me here think it odd that there is almost NO info on YouTube about the Sinclair method, despite the fact that it's been a well-documented, proven cure for alcoholism for nearly two decades? Helllloooo. . .
For anyone doubting that AA is ultimately 'for profit,' you might want to check Hazeldon publishing's tax records. . .
I did not drink for nearly 20 years, while my children were young. Then I decided a "little wine, now and then," wouldn't hurt. I was hooked within the year - that was seven years ago. For the past two years, I've attended AA meetings on several occasions. Then last year I hurt my back, went on pain meds and muscle relaxers, and had a suicidal reaction. Called my AA sponsor - ready to put a gun to my head - and she told me she couldn't help me so long as I'd been drinking! Another AA 'supporter' had a similar response. Fortunately, I have a (non-alcoholic) but drinking friend who knew something was up. . .and came to help me out. That was the end of AA 'fellowship.' (As soon as I got the meds out of my system, I was back to my old optimistic self!)
I hate the negative messages espoused by AA. . .we're all selfish, powerless, damage-doing, non-curable pieces of garbage, UNTIL we've followed (by rote), the AA Program. This program, before medical science could explain the real reasons behind addiction, may have served its purpose. Unfortunately - as with so many other things in life - the entrenched system now in place may be preventing the advent of a much more enlightened and effective approach to alcohol addiction. If the AA organization is truly FOR the benefit of alcoholics. . .then it's next step, now, needs to be to study the literature and begin offering real hope, in the form of advocating the Sinclair method, to those who have felt nothing but hopelessness.
Will keep you all posted!

PS: As for me, I work very much in the public eye, with some influence in my field. Should this cure work (as I am sure it will), I will go public with my problem. . .and with this solution. I suspect that this kind of support by private parties may help the Sinclair Method get to the necessary 'tipping point.'

Naltrexone side effects - anyone experienced any?
:thanks:I'm struggling at the moment. OK I've managed almost 4 weeks on Nal drinking only 1-2 glasses of wine each evening (compared with 1 bottle a night!) so that's good BUT I feel drugged the following morning. On Nal I can sleep for 10-11 solid hours and still feel groggy. If this doesn't wear off I'll have to stop the Nal because it's becoming too difficult to get to work on time in the mornings. I have a supply of Campral to try and wonder if this might be better instead? Anyone experienced similar? I can't find m,y particular difficulty mentioned anywhere in the side effects.
:thanks:

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I have used Naltrex to stop myself from continuing a binge. In 3 or 4 days the desire to drink is gone. I am concerned about the reports of liver damage for long term use...although it has to be less damaging than ALCOHOL. Anyone else have this concern ??sigpicEyes on the PRIZE, a SOBER Future !!!

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
To anyone out there who's on Naltrexone - I'm in my 4th week and really feel it does work BUT does anyone get the side effects that I do? I take it in the evening about 1 hour before a drink but every morning I wake up sleepy, groggy and unable to get up. I feel almost "hung over" - I could actually go on sleeping for a full 10 or 11 hours but have to get up to go to work. Keep thinking this side effect will pass with time but not so far. Only got a week's supply left so I'll have to call it a day after that and try something else - anyone got any ideas about Topamax instead?
