Meech and Brummy - yes TSM takes a while, but you'll see a lot of people who think it's worth it. the Nal makes a lot of people sleepy in the beginning, but the side effects only last a few days for most. If you're going to try it you should definitely read up on it so you know what to expect and how it's supposed to work.

Ive been on tsm for about 9 months and its changed my life. Yes the side effects you mention should be gone in 7 to 10 days. It can be a bumpy road but makes huge differences to craving levels and units. I would highly recomend thesinclairmethodforum as you will find others going through what you will be going through at different times and its a great relief to know that you are not alone.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I have been unknowingly doing the Sinclair Method. My goal is to be alcohol free, however for some reason I get an itch and will drink (usually once a week). I'm on 300mg of Naltrexone and 50mg of Baclofen.
What happens when I drink is I feel nauseous and just want the feeling to go away. Now why would I keep drinking in the first place if this happens? Maybe I'm testing myself? I don't know the answers yet. But I'm telling you, each time I do it I feel sick, sick, sick. The Universe stirs up our comfortable nests, and pushes us over the edge of them, forcing us to use out wings...

That gives me some hope
Illuminae and Sylvia1 - Thanks for the advice. Knowing that the sleepiness will go away after awhile really makes me think about trying it again.
I'll take some time to look at the TSM forum and investigate more. I hate the tired side effects but if it's short term I'll stick it out if it means controlling my drinking.
Thanks,
Meech

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I read a lot today
So first off, I got little accomplished by the way of housework today, but I learned a heck of a lot about Nal and the Sinclair Method.
I like many tried it a few times, hated the fatigue, didn't see the "magic" happening and immediately dropped it. However after reading that you just need to keep taking it over weeks, and months as it is slowly re-wiries your brain to non-addict you so to speak. The sleepiness is common at first and I just have to stick that out for a week or so then it subsides as I get use to the drug.
The key - ONLY take it when I know I am going to drink. Don't take it every day (unless you drink everyday of course). Which for me lately seems to be every other day or every 3rd day.
Success with the Sinclair Method of taking Nal does not happen over night, it does not happen in a few weeks. It takes a few months before the brain can re-wire itself. So I will give this a go. 80% success rate for those who actually stick it out and take it the proper long term way.
So I will give it a go the proper way and we shall see..............
Tonight 1st night on Nal.
Hopeful

The day after Nal
Aurora - that sucks it makes you nauseous. I wouldn't go near it if it made me feel that way. Luckily I don't have any immediate side effects. The first few times I took it I felt dog tired the following day (worse than if I would have just drank without it). So I quit.
Perhaps having a little something to eat before you take it. I know both myself and my husband get really nauseous if we take a daily vitamin or worse B vitamins on an empty stomach. Major nausea. But if I have a little something to eat I have no problem. Maybe try that.
As far a the side effects I have experienced (next day exhaustion) I have read and been told that those side effects wear off after a week (or I am guessing 6-7 times you take it if you aren't taking it every day so maybe a couple of weeks). So I am willing to stick it out.
Illuminae and Reneesmiles - Wow 300mg seems like a tonne. My prescription is 50mg and I take one, 1 hour before drinking.
So I took one last night, 1 hour before drinking. It didn't make me want to stop drinking, it didn't make me want to drink more than I normally do (4-6 beers) and it didn't change my normal effects (buzz) from drinking 4-6 beers. So it didn't effect my normal drinking habit in anyway. I'm just hoping something is going on in my brain as far as the first stage of many many steps of the re-wiring process.
I had 5 beers last night over a 4 1/2 hour time period.
Good news - I didn't feel exhausted today. Yeah I felt somewhat sluggish this morning after 5 beers but wasn't super hungover. I got everything done on my to do list although not quite as energetic as if I would have been AF that's for sure. No headache but feeling a little worn down.
Good News #2 - I had absolutely zero desire for a drink today at the witching hour. I just wanted to eat, have a bath, drink some icy cold water and go rest my sober head on the pillow.
Tomorrow is another day. I hope to be AF again but if I am not I will be sure to take Nal one hour before.
Nighty night.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I did the Sinclair Method to a T for 8 months last year and it absolutely positively did not work for me. When I posted my experiences at the time, I was attacked by Sinclair diehards saying that I should not discourage others from trying it, which I would never want to do.
I say try everything in order to find a solution that works for you but the Sinclair Method did not work for me and it does not work for everyone. Also, I believe the 78% success rate is bogus.
Keep on moving! :h

I have been on Nal for 5 weeks now. I only take it when I'm going to drink (1 hour before).
As far as the wicked fatigue I would get the next day (it made me feel more tired then my "normal day after having 6 beers"), well that hasn't got better. My body is still wiped after Nal + 6 beers. I would seriously have more energy if I didn't take the Nal.
BUT.... I am giving this a fair go as I realize it takes a few months for your brain to be effective or re-wired.
I have reduced my units quite a bit from week 4 and 5. Not sure if it's from the Nal or because I am making a bigger effort or both. I have many more AF's lately. But when I do drink it's my typical 6 beers. I don't drink them any faster or slower and the buzz is the same with Nal or with no Nal. For now I take it EVERYTIME I drink. Eventhough I know I'm going to be super tired the next day.
So I am still giving it a go......and perhaps it's slowly changing my addictive part of my brain. Or maybe I am just ODAT and getting more success. Either way I am doing MUCH better and thankful for that.
Week One: 17 units
Week Two: 21.5 units
Week Three: 17 units
Week Four: 11 units
Week Five: 6 units

Thank you for the replies. I should try to eat with it. I will see if that helps. thanks. I understand if the method does not work for everyone. That is not unusual. We are all unique and react to meds in a different way. However it did work for me in the past so I want to try again if I can get past the side effects. I also got tinnnitis from it but took Ginko Biloba or Ginseng and that took away the tinnitis. All the best too all.
