drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
marbella;495151 wrote: Ditto. What I have read is that if you take it daily for a number of months, normally about 3, but can be more, your drinking will drop off to probably just a few times a week, then you are to take it on as as needed basis. However if you stop taking it and continue to drink even if it is just a few times a week at first very soon you will end up back where you started.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I miss the buzz terribly on nights like tonight .... am craving a glass of wine badly but keep thinking what's the point if i am not gonna get buzzed? I took my 50 mg of naltrexone at 5pm. But i am gonna have it (the wine) anyway. I thinks it's my way of trying to see if i at least feel something. i guess this proves i am really an alcoholic. i wish i could just be a normal person who can have a damn glass of wine without having 3 or 4. this sux!

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
Hi.
My doc upped my Naltrexone to 100 mg a day. 50 mg a.m. 50 mg p.m.
She told me I can stay on it indefinitely. No reason not to.
I miss the "buzz," too but I don't miss the drunkeness. At all.
Love,

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I've been on 50 mg of Naltrexone for a week. I kept on drinking, but found it to be very frustrating when I didn't get the familiar buzz. So I didn't drink at all last night. I didn't know what to do with myself. I'd been very lethargic all day, and didn't feel like doing anything. I finally went to bed an hour early. But I'm determined to keep on taking Naltrexone. The alternative is death. Never mind that I've shut just about everyone out of my life, so I can get drunk in peace.
Drinking alone at home for the past two years. I've had enough.
I woke up with more energy this morning, but the craving is in full force. I've already started to make plans on when I'll buy Wild Turkey, and when I'll start drinking, early afternoon maybe? I know that Naltrexone will block the pleasure, but I'm willing to try drinking anyway. Maybe that's what Dr. Sinclair is talking about, unlearning.
It's ironic, alcoholics have a strong kinship, but we're so alone. My doctor wants me to go back to AA, along with Naltrexone. Maybe he's right.Mike

One more thought. Quite a few complain about the cost of the drug. I felt the same way, until I compared the cost to my daily drinking bill: at least $15 if not $20. And when I drank in bars, $100 was not unusual. The drug is cheap in comparison.Mike

i had 2 glasses of wine last night. Even though I had my 50 mg of naltrexone, Maybe it's mental but i could swear i got some mild effect from it. some kind of pleasure...but anyway...the important thing is i stopped after 2 and actually woke up feeling ok this morning, so i guess it's not a cure all but it does help to moderate and avoid the "drunk uglies". i guess it's a trade off. So I will continue....

I haven't heard of Nax either. I tried TOPO but it made me way to nervous, anxious and jibbery. ....had to stop. I want to be AF. After one week and a half I finally feel normal again. I know for me that my drinking is a thought process. Thank you all for posting because I gain so much encouragement from you all. Yes, today I am hopeful. Dido, Fickle...Love and gratitude to you all!

I've been reading the book on Naltrexone. A lot of the advice given by physicians on its use is incorrect, for a number of reasons too long to point out in a short message. You definitely need to take Naltrexone when drinking or it won't work to extinguish the brain's learned behavior to drink. You do not have to take it every day, only an hour before drinking. So if you don't plan on drinking, don't take it. Granted that takes some self control, but the alternative is death. Naltrexone can damage the liver, but in huge quantities, at least 300 mg, not the prescribed 50 mg. Alcohol does a lot more damage. I highly recommend the book. Book on The Sinclair Method
And here is the first book on the Sinclair Method which summed up over seventy clinical trials says: Naltrexone + Drinking = Cure while a further thirty-five clinical trials prove that Naltrexone + No Drinking Allowed (Abstinence) = Failure
