    drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)

    Hi Pink

You seem soo much more positive than in previous posts! Well done in tapering down on the drinking - I know it's not easy, but it's great to hear the meds are helping you. I've just starting taking Topa a few days ago and am waiting to see if they kick in after a while...as i'm sure it will take a while.

Again well done and hang in there!!!

    Lots of hugs, Blue

Well, there were very little side effects at all! I did have a couple of glasses of wine, today the thought of wine is out of my head. I did feel a little 'whacked' and that was about it. I will stick to the 4pm dose, no wine tonite. I had a great sleep - no nightmares. I also take magnesium 1g at night and that really helps to get a good night's sleep.

Looking forward to AF tonite xx

Sounds like it is worth a try. I will order from River pharmacy, hope it doesn't take too long.

            drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)

            Hi All,
Well I had my monthly visit with my dr yesterday. She is very pleased with me. I did tell her that I am having trouble with Fri and Sat. She said to not be so hard on myself, I have gone from drinking 7 days a week to having a drink maybe 2 nights. I so want to be AF forever though. It is still the same thing. When I have 1 drink I want more. She suggested after xmas that I go to a psychologist and see if we can work the head thing out.
I have another 2 months scripts of naltrexone. I do think that it is definitely working for me. When I do have a drink or 2 I know I am going to wake up ill the next morning and it really doesn't taste anywhere near as good as it used to.
Hope everyone else is doing ok.
            Love and Blessings

              drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)

Just wanted to chime in here because I also take Naltrexone and my doctor has never pushed complete abstinence to me. She knows I drink on Naltrexone, but A LOT less and is very pleased w/that.

Now, my problem is I decided to start playing around w/skipping it sometimes because I missed being able to get a good buzz. Duh, that's why you take the Naltrexone. Anyway, so I started playing these games like I would take it all week and then take one night off when I would drink. Then, I decided to take a week off when I went on vacation. And, slowly, but surely, over the past few months I've reverted back to drinking too much and not taking it at all.

I'm back on the boards today after being away a long time because I want to get entirely back on program. For me, that means taking the Naltrexone EVERY day, taking the supps EVERY day, and hypno EVERY day. When I do all these things, then my behavior is more like that of a 'normal' drinker. I don't obsess over it. I don't crave it. I don't drink more than 2-3 drinks at any one time. I don't get drunk and make a fool of myself. And, I don't get hungover.

Oh, one thing I want to warn you about taking the pill so late in the day is that if your cravings hit before you take the pill, it is sooooooo easy for your addicted mind to take over and convince you to skip the pill just this time so you can really 'enjoy' your drinking. Well, at least this was a problem for me. Maybe not for everyone, but just something to watch out for. I'm going to start taking the Naltrexone in the morning now instead (when my intentions and actions are more in allignment).

                drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)

First day on Naltrexone for me 50mg, one tab a day. (I'm from Australia and the doc prescribed it for me this morning, after I went there concerned about withdrawal seizures etc and asked for Valium (which she also prescribed).) Yesterday was my first alcohol-free day for as long as I can recall (usually 1-2 bottles of wine a night), after a horrible and embarrassing night that I can barely recall. Today I'm at the end of the second day and would really love a glass of wine. I should have taken the tablet earlier. The bottle says in the morning. Does that seem right??

                  drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)

2 days for me on naltrexone. First day I took it about 2 pm, and it helped me get through the afternoon and evening with about 2 glasses of wine instead of 2 bottles. Second day I took it earlier because I really wanted a glass with lunch . . . was able to resist but started feeling irritable with cravings by about 3 pm. Had half a glass with a late lunch, then went caroling (unheard of for me to be out after 4 pm because I usually pass out by 6 pm only to get up for more around 10 pm , , , ugh . . . isolating even though my husband is home . . . just refusing to socialize). Anyway, after the caroling event, we poured a glass each which I sipped on for about an hour. Fabulous ! Usually, I would be begging him to run to town to buy another bottle within that hour.

I think a lot of it is the naltrex, but I am also desperate to change. Have scheduled appointments for counseling possibly with hypnosis, accupuncture and massage. Am looking for advice about the hynotherapy CD's . . . are they effective enough for me to skip the hyno with a therapist? My MD does want me to stay with the counselor.

Nice to be up this morning being able to remember the last two evenings for the first time in years.

                    drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)

                    Hi All,
Thought it was about time I checked in. I have doing ok. Have had my occassional blow out, but basically not drinking much at all. I think that Naltrexone is a miracle for me. When I do crave a drink and give in, I either have to force it down (which I have done) and then I will have another, or I can't get past the first few sips. Yesterday I thought I would like a wine when I was at the pub with hubby. I took a mouth full and thought I was going to throw up, so ended up leaving it there!!! How's that!!!!
The times when I have been forcing it down, I am so sick the next day. These times have not been very often, maybe once a week, but I think those days are now gone.
I hope the new naltrexone takers persevere, cause I do really think it is good.
I take it in the morning otherwise I would probably forget. It is easier for me to take my tablets when I get up.
My neighbour is on Campral (only 1 week). She is still craving so I hope it kicks in for her soon, she is in a bad way. It is so sad to watch. Some days she wants to end it all and I am trying so hard to help her.
Merry Xmas everyone from Down Under
                    xxx

                      drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)

Well 4 AF days (including Christmas) then really blew it yesterday with a bottle of champagne and more than half a bottle of wine. Don't know if I can do AF as it always seems to end in a binge. Taking naltrexone 50mg a day and valium as was worried about withdrawal seizures. Maybe when stop valium Nal will work better?

                        drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)

Okay...I just ordered the topamax yesterday but is the naltrexone better? I want what is best. I'll order the nal if it works better. I went to a detox center, begged for the nal and the doc said I didn't need it....said all I needed was Adderal because I was ADD. That was that great doctor that does wonders that is on the Dr. Phil show....shoot, can't remember his name right now because I have had a bottle of wine. lol

                            Maggiemoo,

Some people prefer the topa and some the Naltrexone (also Naltrexone is not off label, like topa)

I know nothing about Adderal. I shall google now..

Sorry no one answered. Sometimes posts get lost on busy days.

Maggie, are you in the US? Maybe you should find another MD who can discuss these medications with you more thoroughly. I take topa and please read all the info on this site about taking it and dosing up slowly. Also, I have never taken Naltrexone, but I know there is a lot of information on this site about it. Please read as much as you can here as I think it may answer many of your questions. Good luck.
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.

Thank you guys...I have read so much I think my brain is fried. I don't know which one is best or not. I am in U.S.. but the doc here, atleast the ones I know don't have much experience with either drugs for alcohol. I went to a treatment center in Florida because I had read about Nal and I asked for it but was refused for some reason. I have no idea why....It's just hard to find someone to help. It's like it's AA or nothing. So, I'm also ordering the Naltrexone and I guess I try them both....not at the same time, and see which one works best for me. It's very confusing but then I very easily confused these days.
