drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
AliH,
I have also had the bizarre and vivid dreams on Nal. I don't know what that's all about. I'm trying to go for abstinence -- attending AA meetings and everything -- and the Nal really helps with the cravings. The dreams are weird, though.

Just trying to Get Some Advice
drunknomore?;203192 wrote: Hi everyone, Thought I would post a few more observations on what its like to drink on Naltrexone since not many people here seem to be doing it but I've been getting good results with it. Last night was night 5 on 25 mg and I still didn't drink nearly as much as I traditionally do ( 2 bottles) but for the first time drank more than I had been for the previous 4 nights ( usually 1-2 drinks, one night I drank three, all with no effect aside from some tiredness). Last night I was at a party and I drank one, but it seemed to affect me more than the previous nights. I still didn't want more though. I think the difference between last night and the previous nights is that I ate a lot yesterday - a full business lunch and a business dinner, and that seems to reduce the effect of the Nal. So now am going to watch what I eat as well to make sure my stomach doesn't get so full as to interfere with the drug, though actually my desire to eat has gone down too on this stuff, so that shouldn't be too hard.
Anyway still woke up totally hangover free, and still so much less interested in drinking, but still able to socialize without drawing attention to my drinking habits in any way, which is GREAT! Its a whole new world.
Wishing everyone the BEST
DNM

Can anyone tell me if naltrexone has less side effects than topamax? After reading a few comments, it seems that naltrexone has no side effects like topamax. Tingling in hands and feet as well as forgetfulness is kind of scary. - Thanks

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
Hi NC Man,
I have not tried the Naltrexone, but I also get the impression it has way fewer side effects.
To those having bad/ and or vivid dreams, that is also a sign of being somewhat sober when going to bed. When cutting back on alcohol even without any meds, many people complain about initially having vivid dreams, or nightmares. I would not necessarily chalk that up to a side effect of Naltrexone. It is usually a side effect of less or no alcohol. If you do not live the life you believe, you will believe the life you live.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I've been taking Naltrexone for several months. My only side effect has been a loss of appetite---not necessarily an unwanted effect. I feel fine otherwise---good mental clarity, no dizziness, no nausea, etc. I am typically abstinent these days although I do slip now and again. The good news is that even during a slip, I never consume the quantities that I was consuming during the pre-quit era. As such, I think the Naltrexone helps, although it is certainly no magic bullet. Abstinence is still a tenuous proposition.
I probably take a larger dosage than most people, 150 mg per day and I'm relatively slim for my height. I experimented with dosage until I found a level that worked. All in all, if someone were to ask me whether it was worth trying, I'd give it an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
Hi all
I have been taking naltextron for about a month but often drank whilst on it. I found that it didn't cut the cravings down and didn't have much of an effect on my level of intoxication. It's probably stating the obvious but during an alcholic stupor/ psychotic episode I downed about 12 tabs along with a concoction of valium and anti depresents which landed me in the emergency ward under intensive care with severe vomiting and hooked up to all sorts of tubes which I can't really remember the effect of. It's been 3 days since I left hospital and havent managed to eat a thing without throwing up. It was probably one of the worst expiriences of my life and I wouldn't recomend it to anyone.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
Has anyone on here tried the Sinclair Method? From what I've been able to find on the internet it seems that Naltrexone is not effective long term when taken while abstinent, but several studies show that it is effective when combined with drinking alcohol as it breaks the bodies alcohol to endomorphine rush association. It seems far too good to be true: drink as much as you want, take Naltrexone for 3 months, and afterwards you won't crave alcohol. But I can't find anything on the internet that contradicts these studies. Seeming to be good to be true doesn't mean something is necessarily wrong, the studies and logic behind it both seem to support the idea. What makes me sceptical is that since it has been well over ten years since the treatment was suggested, if it really did work I'm sure it would be a mainstream treatment by now, and 10's of thousands of lives would have been improved.
So again, has anyone on here tried the Sinclair Method, taking Naltextrone while continuing to drink. And if someone has, did it have any effect?

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
The problem I have found with thoes "pleasure blockers" (Naltrexone,Chantix) is that if you do drink on them you dont get that feeling that we like, so I keep drinking then wam! you are in border line black out mode instantly, cuz I just drank a fith of 100 proof, cuz it was there and I wasnt getting what I wanted from the first half.
I dont think they will work for me unless I take them every day to reduce the craving BEFORE I get the craving. Once I know Im going to drink I either dont take the pill or I drink thru it. I tried to get the vivitrol shot so I would not have to rely on myself to take them. Didnt happen.
With the way my insurance is and the way the clinic wants one to do the program, makes it next to impossible to fallow thru with. Only a 21 day script (insurance) at $30 bucks a pop. 4hr. round trip to the clinic (18gal diesel $4 bucks a gal.) then the Doc. the nurse and their counselor get you for $150 bucks before one even gets the script. That is once a month visit except the script witch is only good for three weeks.
I am going to shoot for making life changes. I think we have all agreed that there is no "magic bullet" so I need to get my life adjusted to where I have other things that I want to do more than drink. Untill I do that, the little drunk'n basturd will always be haunting me. I think the only way to kill him off is to boot him out of my mind with greater pleasures than the drink. A real simple concept. The mind will do what it finds the most pleasure in. The tuff job will be finding that path.

More rich tasting booze please
Northwood,
I guess the real question is how badly do you want to not drink. I'll be starting Naltrexone after I pass my liver test, and it's the first hope in years that I've had to stop drinking, and not feel like total shit in the process. My doctor said that he's prescribed it for 30 years and with great success if the patient was ready for it, in other words disciplined enough to take the naltrexone before drinking.
If your serious about trying the Naltrexone you should educate yourself about the sinclair method, here are links to 2 interviews with Dr. Sinclair:

You can find Naltrexone for as little as $3-$10 a pill on online Canadian pharmacies, there's even some which will sell without a prescription, their just more expensive. Just google something like "no prescription canada"
That's if I'm reading your blog right and your paying $30 per pill, that's crazy!!!!
Good Luck
