drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
Still waiting for my Naltrexone to arrive from River . . . Doing what I can in the meanwhils w/ supps, staying buusy, rationing my time on these boards! I really feel at peace w/ the decision to work the Sinclair method.
Oceana -- You may want to consider sharing the Sinclair book with your husband. He will know there is an alternative to divorce if you do drink again. Your courage and determination are inspiring. But my heart goes out to you living in fear of those already-prepared divorce papers if you "slip up". And his living in fear that you will "slip up". Maybe the two of you sharing the knowledge and hope the book provides will bring the two of you closer. Just a thought.
Thanks all for continuing to share. Lena

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
Hi - Here with an update.
Two months ago I started Vivitrol (injectable 1-month dose of Naltrexone). It worked very well and I cut my drinking down drastically. My LFTs went down from AST 72 and ALT 162 to AST 58 and ALT 137. Got another shot and things were still good, but the holidays came, lots of stress, household guests and more drinking (but still less than originally) plus I was taking 2 Alleve for neck and foot pain on most days. At the end of that month my LFTs had increased to ALT 105 and ALT 231! I really wasn't drinking that much. I never once got "drunk" or passed out. The Dr. thinks it was the Alleve and alcohol combined. They won't give me another shot of Vivitrol until the LFTs go down so now I am no longer taking ANY pain meds (I am over 50 and achy!) and I have been drinking only 3 glasses of wine per day. I really want to go back on Vivitrol ASAP.
They also gave me Campral which is WONDERFUL! I hope I can continue to take it indefinitely. It immediately took away any anxiety that would make me say "I really need a drink) with no side effects. It is a very calming medication without making you tired or groggy. I will retest LFTs at the end of the week.

Naltrexone's here!
My first dose of Naltrexone was this afternoon.
My first drink an hour later tasted bad and did not stay down. Also, tinnitus rose to a roar. I took a quick nap and feel better. Great, in fact. I'm sipping a vodka w/ sparkling water because, w/ Sinclair method, I must. Also, I should have some to stave off alcohol w/d after years of not one AF day. I don't miss my buzz.
Tomorrow I will try 25 mg.
Keep the sharing going all! Thanks, Lena

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I have been drinking on Naltrexone. When I take it an hour before I start to drink it makes be boarderline ill. Like a dumbarse I still force myself to drink. I still catch a buzz like one normally would.
This last weekend I drank on Nal. and woke up with the worst hang-over that I have ever had. I did not even drink that much, I did not think, a mixed drink then several beers, but when I woke up up I all but swore the crap off.
I have Topa. on the way. I would like to lose the desire to start drinking. Even after getting viciously ill last time I still drank the same crap last night. The smell of it made my stomach churm so darn bad I thought I was going to hurle, but I still did it!
I still have some of my Nal. left and I am tring to finish it up to 'untrain' my brain. Due to the fact I was not disaplend enough to take every time before I started to drink I ordered some Topa. to hopfully get me to not want to drink in the first place.
I drank on Nal. last night and I feel fine this morning. I even drank more than I did this weekend. Dont know what went wrong last weekend? I do know it did not taste good last night, that is for sure!

Naltrexone day 2
As I awaken with hope on day 2 . . . My first hope is that I will be able to tolerate this med. With the nausea and vomiting, it was more like aversion. I have to admit it will take some courage to take even half a dose today. I took it around 1 yesterday; I will wait til later pm if no urge to drink (which now is hard to imagine) and take 25mg. But I had a lazy evening not feeling bad, just not good enough to do more than watch tv and sip vodka/sparkling water. That did not taste awful; just not very appealing. I made a double no ice in a tall glass and never finished it. My first time in years w/ < 2 units in a single day. I have tinnitus which I manage nicely w/ 480 mg ginkgo and it went up to a loud roar for a couple hours. Took the gingko before bed and woke up quiet. I hope I can make this work. Any input would help.
John, happy fellow first day and good luck.
Oceana, you are inspiring!
rv9, what's new?
Keep posting all!

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I too am on day two and I dont know what I was expecting but I hadnt read a lot about major side effects. I struggled to drink last night so it definitely works but I also layed around, watching tv and was so spacey. I got on the MWO chat and was on there until about 1:00 AM. And then...I had such a restless night of sleep. I was either completely out or completely awake and as I layed there watching the sun come up, I realized I was experiencing my first nal hangover. Just like lena, I too must find the courage to take this drug again. I find it extremely potent! As an alc, I realize that it's a bit odd to say that I dont like what it does to my head but I am still feeling the effects of it and just want it out of my system. The good news is that I had no desire to drink. That said, I do not tolerate narcs very well and might even skip tonight and see if I can try again tomorrow at half or even quarter dose.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
Lenaleed and all, Good Day to all MWY friends,:heart::heart::heart:
I continue to have good results with my use of Nal and Baclofen. I am still taking 25mg Nal and 5 mg Baclofen in am. 5 mg Bac mid day, and 25 mg Nal and 5 mg Bac in early pm. I am not experiencing any side effects. I am reading Dr. Ameisen's book regarding his self test and success with the use of only Baclofen. I am on day 20.
Sorry you are experiencing bad side effects with the Nal.
I believe the Baclofen is what is really pulling me through this craving because it is really helping me to calm down my anxiety. I am not a person that has experience anxiety in the past, but I am certainly in the throws of it now. I am calm and level headed.
I am having drinking dreams. But am able during the day to not seem to "go to the bottle."
I imagine we are all chemically different. I do have a friend who is starting the same program I am using and I will report on her progress in week or two.
"I am safe, I sound, all good things come to me, they bring me peace." Yoga mantra
Be well.....:heart::heart:

North, I also have Topa on the way and look forward to hopefully less side effects than nal. I can handle the fatique, it's the outer body experience with nal that I can't take. I look forward to hearing about your experience with it and will post mine as well.
Oceana, you are VERY inspiring! I want to be like you! 19 days is a HUGE accomplishment!!!
Hang in there Lena! I look forward to knowing your progress as well and how 25mgs works for you. I will try the same if I am able to tolerate it...but not today I'm afraid.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I also have Bac and have been on that for about a week before I got nal (yesterday). I did notice good results with just bac and had been drinking less. It didnt make me feel weird at all, I just felt like I needed more than that to stay on track so I ordered reinforcements (nal and topa). My birthday is coming up and I want to do everything I can to stay on track.
I think you are right oceana. We are all checmically different. I forgot to mention that I have high blood pressure and nal really raised it and made me feel anxious pretty much of the night.

drinking on Naltrexone (sinclair method)
I think I will try 12.5 and see. I read my earlier post. I don't think I fully described it. For about an hour I was sweating, dizzy, anxious. I am only 5'2" so maybe it's way too much. I'm sorta glad I am not dealing w/ an md because he or she might just tell me not to take it out of an overabundance of caution. I'll let you kow how it goes. It's nearly 1 pm and alcohol does not sound appealing. Baclofen is not an option. I took klonipin until recently and it seems to similar. Campral might be an option. Its function as a glutamate antagonist ha led to it having some small success as a tinnitus treatment.
Please all, stay in touch. John, hang in there. Lena
