    Wishy Washy about Topa

How has the Topa worked for all of you in the long run? Have you managed to get through the side effects and be yourselves on it?

In the long run has it helped? One of the things that keeps coming up in the treads is the ability to moderate on topa. And after you quit, Is you head done with the booze -- did you forget about your friendship with it on most days. Trust me, I don't you truly ever will, but somewhat?

I am not sure I will put up with the side effects, but just move forward with the supps as they have been helpful. Which supps do you find more helpful than others?

Deep down I am hoping to get back to the person who's mind was fresh and clean.

    Free Bird,

I absolutely could not deal with topa. Sometimes I was scared just driving down the highways in cities I was traveling in. So afraid I would wreck and get totally lost. I ordered Baclofen from River Pharmacy and it is coming in Nov. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little worried...

However, many people do not do meds at all and are doing fabulously. Star and Chief are two good examples.

Why don't you try everything but the meds? L-Glut helps ALOT when the craving hits. Lots of people have success with the Kudzu. These are both safe and will not harm you.

    Good luck!!

Example of bad side effects: "treads" for threads.

      "trust me, I don't you...." instead of ... trust me I don't
      think you

on and on and on and on

Normally I can type like crazy and can't even do that......

Thanks, Cindi (forgive me for the typos), I don't think I am going to take more topa. Seriously, I can't even type right now. But thanks. I do not like this stuff. feels worse than too much wine. GO My initials.

          Free Bird,

You must titrate back down slowly. DO NOT STOP ABRUPTLY!!

I had to go through that, too. It sucked but stopping abruptly can be dangerous.

I am on Topa almost two weeks. I stopped the Suppliments as they were giving me headaches. I am keeping the Kuduz and LGlut for craving. So far I still have a need for Alcohol, but not as much. But, I'm only on 50mg. My doctor also has me on Phentermine [sp] I otherwise would be tired. Next week I will increase the topa. But so far I have had no side effects. I was scared to take the Topa. I am willing to let it work. I gained three pounds in the past two weeks. But, I think the Vit or Sups did that. I took a water pill and that helped. And topa can cause constipation... so later I'll try a little help in that direction. And, starting to exercise more. Also, I think with the increase in Topa all of this will start to fall more into place. I have a lot of issues. And have not be able to focus completely on being AF. But, try being AF if you can without the Topa... but don't not try it if you are afraid of side effects, because not everyone has them.

When I first started, I was upping the dose 25mg every week until I got to 125 mg. By then I was a basket case. I cut back to 50 mg/day and that is working great for me. I have been there for about a month and haven't had any cravings at all.

              Good Luck,

I was prescribed topamax as a mood stabiliser - I lasted 5 days on it - my brains turned to mush, nil cognitive functioning and I actually fell asleep at my desk at work - not good for me, or my career. Lucky had good boss.

                  Cheers

                    SoulSurfer,

Have you been AF all this time?

And now you want a drink? Boy the beast is really sneaking up on you!!

I am sorry you are craving so badly but perhaps you can figure out a way to push past it?

I hope others with more long term AF time than myself can give you some good advice.

                    Hang in there!!

Soul Surfer, Boy, I feel your pain, but I am not the person to give you advice on this; it probably depends on the the severity of your dependency in the first place. Do you really think you could have just "one" drink? Have you tried moderating in the past and did it work for you?

                      GO

I've been on topa for almost 2 years, (100mg a day) it will be 2 yrs in Jan.
I've not been AF, (except for an 18 day stint I did @ one point). Other than that I've been moderating.
Have done really well with that, except for a couple of slips.
I'd have to say, the past 2 years, being here & being on topa has changed my life. ( I also do L-Glut, B complex, milk thistle, vita mineral green)
                        It's been the best 2 years I can remember...in a VERRRYYY long time.:h
                        Wishing you well...

                          Not an alcoholic

I have been prescribed Topamax because I had a grand mal seizure. I just wanted to know if I could have a glass of wine once in a while. Sorry if my thread came out incorrect. I'm not dependant on alcolhol. I have been without for the past six months and counting. I was just wondering..
