    How do you Campral?

Eureka! After weeks of phone calls I finally found a doctor this morning who will prescribe the Campral if I go in for an appointment. (Unless there are any major contradictions he will prescribe it!)

Problem solved! I am still going to try the natural remedies first but this way I know exactly where to go if I need more than vitamins, herbs and aminoes.

PAWS...Great! Hope the hell I don't get that! An APRN is a person who is not a doctor although is capable of writing scripts. Usually counselors (some) are degreed to write. Supplements are good, but depending on the level of dependency some meds are needed. Your'e on the right track I hope all goes well for ya. What we have to go through to be AF? Thanks for the info., I hope I was of help B?

      Luv. RIP.

        Ripple,

You have all been a big help. I was so frustrated when I started this thread. I felt like I was never going to be able to find a doctor who would be willing to prescribe the Campral and I didn't want to go to a detox or rehab program.

Just a medical doctor, MWO, HAMS and smart meetings. ( Hope y'all don't mind me working several different programs at once!)

You say Ripple that according to the level of dependency medication might be needed above and beyond the supplements. That is probably going to be the case with me. Thanks for all your advice, you and the others who responded.

          How do you Campral?

Well I went to Rehab and the Off campus housing was an experience never to be forgotten. You see I voluntarily admitted ME! Having man troubles my drinking was making me angry. Rehab is the motivation for me to stay clean. When the van from admissions drove in front of a CRACK house with 3 mommas on the door step to greet me I almost passed out. Its all been healing since.

          Luv.

4.5 months AF is something to bragg about. I'll be there too one day. No way will I return to being dishonest to myself. Lets all be AF and have a good time with good people. Cheers to all for a successful recovery. Lets do it together.

Renie, I noticed your MOOD is TIRED! That is one of the worst health issues I had. Exhaustion is from drinking and also sleep deprivation makes it even more a problem. My iron levels were down and now I feel so much better after (only) one month off the bottle. I learned a lot in rehab what drinking does to the body and mind. You have my permission today to nap the day away. you take care. 4.5 months is awesome! Keep going.

I concur - go with information (lots of it on the Internet) and be 100% honest with the doctor about how often and how much you drink. Any doctor worth their salt will prescribe it.

While there, I told her I was seeing a physcologist and going to AA meetings. I told her that I was an alcoholic and asked her to write the perscripton for Campral. This was not easy for me to do, but I did it. My doctor never heard of Campral before. She looked the med up in her little book and then wrote the perscription. I was embarrassed, but I wanted to save my life. I took Campral consistently for 2 months. I immediately felt the effects of not craving alcohol after the first day of taking the med. I am now 4.5 months sober. -Reenie
Hello Reenie -- Hope I'm doing this right; it's my first time on the boards. My doctor just prescribed Campral for me, after the Topomax didn't quite work. It definitely minimized the cravings, but made me too dopey. The question now is, does Campral cause weight gain?:new:

                            How do you Campral?

Thought I would check back with y'all and say I am on day 30 AF without the Campral. I couldn't afford to go to the doctor (well I could afford the visit but none of the test or meds). I found a place that would help me pay for the medication, but it was still going to take awhile to get it even after I could afford the doctors visit (again I could scrap enough together for the visit itself, but not for whatever test they might have to run) so I never did go to a doctor. I did buy a bunch of Vitamins and Amino acids( Some from MWO and some from Vitacost.com) and that worked for me. Nothing against medication it was just going to take too long for me to get enough money together to go that route. I ended up spending about as much on supps as I would on a doctors visit but also you have to consider what lab work they would have wanted to do.

Oh yeah I was "bethany" when I was on this thread about a month ago.

                              How do you Campral?

                              Rosalind/Bethany,

Unforutnately, PAWs is real. I wish it wasn't. I am dealing with it every day and it does suck big time. However, Mary - aka Retteacher - says that after 67 days AF she is finally starting to feel a difference in her brain.

I only hope I have to go 60+ days to get back to "normal" whatever the heck that is for me!!

We can do this. We WILL DO THIS!!

                              Love,

                                How do you Campral?

                                Cindi,

I agree that Paws is real, that is why I was seriously considering going on Campral. It just didn't work out that way, so I tried vitamins and aminos instead and I seem to be doing better than the other times I tried to quit. I don't have anything against people using medication though to get through the PAWS.

I still feel it quite a challenge to get through this next month, as I have never made it past 42 days before, but feel more confident that I can do it without the Campral now than I did before.

Whether you are using medication or not, if we can make it through the first 60 days I think we will be OK.

                                WE CAN DO THIS!
