    How do you Campral?

    How does one go about obtaining a prescritption for Campral?

    I don't have a doctor, but when I called around to make any appointment for a check up I asked them also if they would be willing to write a prescription for Campral -they say no or they are not sure.

    I mean I need a checkup anyways but would rather find a doctor that was also going to write me prescription for the campral at the same time. I will be using the Campral for long terms abs not mods.

    I don't have insurance so can't go to lots of different doctors to get this done.

    Thanks for any advice.

    My counselor gave me samples. Go to a doctor or counselor and ask for it!

      How do you Campral?

      I kinda wanted to know ahead of time whether a doctor was going to presrcibe it for me or not, because I would rather go to a doctor who would prescribe it than one who wouldn't.

      If I go in for a check up and that one doctor doesn't prescribe it then I will have to go to another doctor and I can afford that. Is there any way to know ahead of time whether a doctor is going to agree to write the subscription? Or do I have to just find out after I get there?

        Hi Bethany,
        When I went to my Dr, I knew she didn't have a lot of experience with the drug I was asking for (Topamax). I went with information in hand (internet) and told her in the nicest way possible when she began to decline my request, I could easily obtain the RX on the internet, but I was seeking a medical Dr to be my caregiver, and track my results. I also told her I'd done hours of research and this was the treatment that seemed best for me, and I was really ready to get better. Be respectful, but firm and confident. It is your body and your choice. Good luck.

          Hi Bethany and welcome. I'm taking Campral. My doc suggested it. I can't think of why one wouldn't do it unless you have some health issue or other med that it conflicts with in which case you wouldn't want it either.

          Use everything at your disposal to get to your goal. This site is a super place to come for support.

            How do you Campral?

            I explained to my doctor that I was struggling with Al Abuse and did my reseach on Campral, and that I wanted to try the drug out.. He said ''no problem'' and the rest is history..He wrote me a RX and am doing OK for now..

                Thanks all so much for your kind responses! I guess what I am going to do afterall is go to an addictologist instead of just a regular doctor. A regular doctor may or may not write the prescription, since I don't really have a doctor yet and am just looking for one.

                I don't have alot of time to get this done I am quitting drinking and usually hit the wall at 6 or 7 weeks and start drinking again.

                This is my 3rd attempt at quitting drinking. Hopefully the 3rd time will be a charm as they say.

                  I was talking this over with my husband and instead of getting on Campral, I should give taking every type of Vitamins, Herbs and Amino Acids that will help a real try. That I should just go out and buy everything I need to try that approach first. I have tried some of this type of thing the other times I tried to quit but never went out all out and bought everything I would need to go this approach. Alot of what I need I have already, and I went and bought some l-glut at the health store the other day. Some other of the stuff I didn't have I ordered last night from MWO health store. I am going to try this approach( all out this time) and then if I still need to I will go and get the Campral. Today is my first day of quitting drinking this round, I have been tapering down so that I didn't have to detox all at once. It can be dangerous to go from 8 drinks a night to 0, so I went from 8 to 6 to 4, 3, 2, and today O.

                    Bethany: I got a perscription of Campral from my doctor. I went to see her for a routine check up. While there, I told her I was seeing a physcologist and going to AA meetings. I told her that I was an alcoholic and asked her to write the perscripton for Campral. This was not easy for me to do, but I did it. My doctor never heard of Campral before. She looked the med up in her little book and then wrote the perscription. I was embarrassed, but I wanted to save my life. I took Campral consistently for 2 months. I immediately felt the effects of not craving alcohol after the first day of taking the med. I am now 4.5 months sober. -Reenie

                      This site has a lot of high quality supplements for people who are fighting cravings, like me. You might try purchasing some from here. The All in One powder is great -- it gives you alot w/o you having swallow a lot of pills. It is also available at health food stores, in the U.S., that is.

                        I am not embarrassed to ask a doctor for Campral. I just don't want to pay $125.00 for an office visit and still not get the prescription. (No health insurance)

                        I suppose if I knew for sure that a doctor was going to write the script if I went in for an appointment I would go.

                        Perhaps the fact that I don't presently have a doctor and haven't been in a long time and am just looking for a doctor is what is complicating things.

                        So for right now I am going to try isolating Amimos. This is not taking all the Aminos just the L-glut, Gaba, 5htp, and DPLA.

                        I read somewhere ( don't remember where right now) that sometimes isolating aminoes can work better for some people than just taking them all at once.

                          Bethany, the purpose of Campral and all the other meds us drinkers use are to re-set the chemicals in the brain that have been screwed up from use. I really feel that without the meds I would not be this stable. iI really believe with your situation that A visit could produce samples. Try an APRN and explain your finances, there are people who want to help people. My APRN gave me samples and remember they are in the career helping people, what have you to lose? Go to an AA meeting and ask the question, someone there could give you direction. Good luck hunny.

                            I already ordered a few things from MWO store, the Gaba, the 5htp, the Kudzu and the Calm one. This is addition to all the vitamins I already have should be everything I need to try this a natural approach before resorting to a pharmacutical. ( I know kind of ironic that I am so particular about what I injest all of a sudden, LOL!)

                              I might need to get on the Campral in order to quit, last two times I tried to quit I would get Post Acute Withdrawl Syndrome at about 6 or 7 weeks AF that was really bad and I would start drinking again.

                              Some people don't believe in PAWS because they say one should be totally detoxed in a week. I believe that PAWS exist because it happens to me everytime I try to quit drinking.

                              What is an ARPN? I figure the RN stands for Registered Nurse, what does the AR stand for? And how do I go about finding a ARPN?

                              P.S. I plan on going to SMART meetings instead of AA meetings. I am going to my first Smart meeting this coming Thursday online. They also have F2f here, but I am just going to start with the online meetings first.
