Baclofen?
hi LD!!!
Yup, I tried baclofen when I first went af after reading about a few positive results on google. You probably won't be able to get anyone to prescribe it to you for alcohol addiction as it is an anti spasticity drug. I 'acquired' mine and was very careful to read up on the dosages and stuff before I started taking it....you increase the amount very gradually, and if you want to stop taking it, you must also reduce the amount gradually.
I think it definitely did help after I had gotten the dose high enough...but was hard to get hold of, so I came off it...however it did see me through the first few weeks.
I also took high doses of l-glut with it...this seems to be pretty helpful as a craving reducer...
Does any of this help??? Feel free to question ......

Baclofen?
The side effects were minimal....this is as long as you are careful with your dosage...if you increase the meds too fast, you are much more likely to get adverse stuff. I was having hallucinations anyway when I stopped drinking so I don't know how much of this was withdrawal and how much was the bac.
I took baclofen initially as I had read very positive reports on google, and, at the time, was able to obtain a reasonably large supply free, and immediately...I was desperate to start with af and wanted SOMETHING to help me kickstart it....QUICK...campral may have worked as well or better, but was only available by ordering over the internet which would have taken time and a credit card which I did not have then....
Many people here swear by campral...ask Lucky...she is the queen, nay high vizier of the C supp!!!
How come you are thinking about Bac? Are you just in a trial and error time now??

I'm not taking any right now (other than vitamins etc) because later this month I'll probably start on some fairly strong medication to shrink a non-malignant tumor on my pituitary. So I don't want to be mixing too much stuff.

Baclofen?
Phoebe,
There isn't much information on the posts about Baclofen, although RJ has posted some links about it you may be able to follow.
I googled on it in the past and found some info on it. Try googling on "baclofen alcoholism" and see if you can get some good info from there.
Hopefully someone else out there has tried it and can answer for you.
I tried it briefly but chickened out since I wasn't using a doctor for it.
Best of luck and if you do use it please post and let us all know how it works. Sharing good and bad here is of great help to all.

Baclofen?
I will be trying the Baclo, mainly because I have a problems with muscle spasm anyway.(damn auto accidents--they sure mess up one's quality of life!) I'll let you know in a week or so. I'm really hesitant to see a doc cuz I live in a small town and am fairly well known. Anything that helps me not want AL (the bewitching hour starts at 7pm), the better:beach

Baclofen?
Hi Weemelonhead
Hi everyone and especially weemelonhead as I see you live in Auckland like me. I'd love to have a chat about baclofen & your other experiences. I had not heard of baclofen until today.
I managed to score a small amount of topa online 2 years ago but most was confiscated. It certainly helped but in the long run the whole experience was a disaster as I ended up moving totally away from AA and got into major probs with my drinking.
Am now back into AA, have a good sponsor and home group and have only drunk on a couple of occasions in the last 6 months. Still hope underneath that I will either lose the desire to drink altogether or will be able to take a medication that will let me drink like a "normal" person.

Baclofen?
Hello I am seeking some help. I was just given a script for Baclofen. My doc gave me this for a few reasons, first of all horrible sleep (I have an appt tomorrow for a cons for a sleep study) second he is treating me for chronic neck/upper shldr pain from muscle aches. I have tried many things over the years so he gave me a script to try this. I dropped the script off at the pharmacy and oh my he forgot to write in the amount of pills for the script so they have to fax it to him tomorrow so I wont even be able to start it till tomorrow anyway. I checked with my insurance, they cover it with a minimal co-pay. Ok my question and I really hope there is someone out there that can help. I log on here and much to my surprise find out that this is one of the drugs on the MYO program???? Also I am currently on the topa but only on 50 mg per day - is this a contra drug to topa? Oh and I just started Cymbalta yesterday also.
Hmmmm I am really contemplating a clean out farm. You know one that you go to and they take you completely off EVERYTHING and start all over - is there even such a thing???? Anyway really I am just desperate for a full nights sleep and at this point will go to the ends of the earth to find it
thanks in advance for any help I can get
I also posted this in the meds forum but thought it might get more eyes here
hugs
tired in seattle
but excited to see the His Holiness The Dalai Lama on Saturday

Baclofen?
Poohbear,
I tried Baclofen shortly and it did not have the desired anti-craving effect for me at all. I felt nothing. Not even sleepy!!
However, this is the one time I tried a drug through River Pharmacy. So, I am not sure if it was 'REALLY' Baclofen or the strength was good.
I did not really give it a good chance, to be honest.
It would be wonderful if it works and helps you. I really hope it does. I also hope your muscle spasms do well on it. :l
It is horrible to go without sleep.
Keep us posted and let us all know if you find it helping with AL and let us know how it helps with your back and shoulder, too.
Love,
Cindi

Baclofen?
Florida has a rapid detox that rids you of everything. Don't know the name of it but maybe you can google "rapid detox". I do believe that their intent is to take you off everything. Sorry but I don't know enough to give you more info. But know that something out there does exist.
Good luck
