Iowegian, there is some risk of seizures if you have been taking Wellbutrin and stop drinking when you've been drinking a lot. It would be better to wean yourself off the alcohol slowly instead of going cold turkey (if that was your plan). The topamax does take time to kick in. I was at 200mg when I was able to stop drinking, and a few months later I was able to go back down to a maintenance dose of 100mg as a maintenance dose.

I take Wellbutrin now, but my shrink wouldn't prescribe it for me until I was sober for a bit because of the risk of seizures.

Didn't mean to ignore you, Prindi- No, I'm not taking topamax. Right now, I stopped drinking cold turkey, and I'm taking vitamins and L-Glut, but I didn't know how about topa when I quit drinking.

Actually, this is the first time (other when I've been pregnant) that I've mad a conscious decision to NOT drink. So, while I want to drink again, I don't know if I can moderately drink. If I decide to drink, should I start taking other supps? Should I take topa?

Congrats on being able to quit cold turkey! I have not accomplished that as of yet - I have an appt with a psych. on Tuesday, am hoping to get the answer about topa and wellbutrin, before I begin the topa program.
I know that I must abstain, at least for a while. If you decide to drink, you may consider at least the supps in the MWO program - especially the kidzu, which is supposed to help with cravings, which I guess is what makes us continue to drink once we start. As far as the topa, it might help if you want to drink in moderation, but, if you are able to stop completely with no meds, that might be the way to go.

I did some research myself and I think the SAME may be the answer. I always order my vitamins and supplements on vitacost.com (they have a brand there with the name NSI and I love these products), there you find a lot of customer ratings for SAME, Kudzu, etc.

Wellbutrin and topamax

First, Wellbutrin is a pretty weak dopamine reuptake inhibitor compared to eg. Ritalin. Second, Topamax doesn't block dopamine (receptors) per se like antipsychotics, but reduces the release of dopamine when drinking. So the two drugs won't cancel each other out. They act synergistically to promote weight loss by the way.
