I truly believe there is an connection to Antidepression use and increased drinking
Thanks Louise -- I need to read the entire thread .. but my main question is Wellbutrin better for me than 10mg. of Lexapro? I agree that my heavy drinking started when I was put on prozac...Tiny

Ad's are tricky. Used to sell them professionally to doctors. Psychiatrists are much more informed about how to take them, what the interactions can be with other meds or supplements and how to get off them. Regular family doctors simply don't attend alot of the medical presentations and read enough medical journals to be experts.
That said. Ad's (possibly not Prozac because it does not stay in your system as long) are a BITCH to get off of. You absolutely have withdrawls just like drugs or booze. But they alter either serotonin and/or norepinephrine - brain chemicals. Even the drugs companies research does not prove HOW they work. They know they work for many people. Now, I took Zoloft and this is where my alcohol shot out of control - now off Zoloft which I took for 3 years and it took me 8 months to get off it. I am now trying to deal with the alcohol addiction left.
Always consult a doc before taking any supps that act as a natural AD or effect serotonin. You can have TOO much. Ad's are important if you can not function normally or are suicidal. They usually do work. But sometimes they make you feel less and you don't even realize it - they numb you out. This is not good. I actually feel better off Zoloft now thatn on - but I was postpartum and non-functional when I started taking it and it did save my life.
Also because I felt less - I could drink a HELL of alot and not feel it until I was over the edge."Parenthood remains the greatest single preserve of the amateur." Alvin Toffler
