Does Topamax Make anyone Cry over nothing?

I don't know if it's the topamax but I find myself crying at the drop of a pin. I can be having a conversation and I burst into tears. I am not a person who cry's over much of anything ever. My emotions seem to be whacked. Anyone else with this experience?

Hi Living, I was a bit like that during the first few weeks af, one minute I was elated and totally delighted with myself, next minute the tears are pouring and my heart was heavy, this has settled now to a lesser extent but still feel tearful for no particular reason, may be just things that are happening just now but like you I am not really a tearful person so then again perhaps the alcohol monster trying to get me back - NO CHANCE!

I spose it sort of makes me cry but I have numbed my emotions for so long with alcohol I found my self crying hystericaly:upset: to really cheesy in house romantic movies when holed up in hotels for work interstate ( I put it down to basic feelings of lonliness and missing my little girl:upset: ). Seriously if you google some sites on topa some people experience a profound sense of melancholia. Not to be taken lightly I hope you are ok . I am a male and have always thought one of my greatest strenghts was my ability to cry at the drop of a hat . Bring the tears on i say:upset:

Thank you for the support danny & Tea - actually I have been getting a little worried about myself. I know the years of Al had probably turned my emotions completely off - but this is almost scaring me because it's mixed with a dose of fear and anxiety. I was actually thinking I should get back into the Dr. to have my hormones, etc. checked. But I did a deeper google on topa and found a site that talks about topa and depression and that site says it goes away at 6 weeks for most everyone. I am at 3 1/2 weeks. I have to see if I can make it or I might dose back down just to be safe. Thanks for caring. I have been getting worried

Oh great. I have been considering topa. I'm the one that cried in AA last week. Yikes. I'll have to have a glasses string thing attached to a kleenex box. Like a horsey feed sack thing I guess (for your Bessie). That'll be a good look. Maybe start a trend like big girl pants. Oh here's an idea.... wear a bra and stuff it with kleenex. Maybe nobody would notice the shrinkage.

Stopping drinking alone makes most people very emotional. Not sure if you are moderating with Topa or abstaining completely, but I bet the Topa is exacerbating your emotions, which tend to be raw when you give up the alcohol. I know it will get better, its just a matter of hanging in there until it does.

Something that REALLY helps my emotions and mood is SamE. You can buy it at Walgreens or any health food store or phamarcy. The ALL ONE helps too as it has lots of B-vitamins, which really help with stress and anxiety. Try the SamE if you havent... I think you will like it. Also, exercise plays a huge role in my mood. It releases "feel good" endorphins, and I also use my exercise time as a time to really deep think and process my life, etc., so I always feel refreshed after it both physically and mentally.

Good plan P4T I've been thinking about the SamE I went to Walgreens -going to give it a try - my cupboard is jam packed with supplements, may as well add one more! I'm abstaining so probably more emotional than ever. greeneyes you always make me laugh. I'll just stick a tissue in my bra so when the tears start flowing I'll pull out my hankie and Honk Honk Honk!

I have often thought it strange that I'll be in a sad sad movie and my husband will be crying away - me ---- nothing. we'll -- I hope I can manage these new found tears cuz they don't seem to be going away. My eyes are now red and puffy from crying - not from alcohol. Great.:upset:

I'm crying a lot too. I've been stuffing emotions down for so long and now that AL isn't there to keep them down, they are coming out whenever they want. The good thing is I feel a lot better after I'm done crying. BTW, I don't take TOPA, so I guess this didn't really help.

Topa doesn't make you cry - masking your feelings with AL and then going AF and having to deal with them is what is making you cry...Topa makes you feel dopey and relaxed!

I have moderated and I feel much more emotional too. Much more likely to cry and I don't take Topa (yet). Thought maybe I was getting depressed but reading here it makes more sense that it is because of less AL. I don't feel depressed, just emotional and exercise really helps...

i've been on topa since november ... tears are never far from the surface for about the last month or so. the slightest sad thing makes me just well over. i wouldn't say i'm morose with melancholy. or even depressed. just that emotions are very VERY near the surface and the pain/beauty of everything seems to be striking quite deep. i'm sure it's some combo impact of the meds and being less dulled by drink (i never drank during the day ... and i feel weepy as hell during the day .. there's no way it's just alcohol withdrawal this late into it since it's 3+ mos into the game). i actually used to be this way in my 20s ... then 'grew' out of it. then medicated myself out of it with zoloft. then with alcohol. now i'm on nothing but the topo and ... in a weird way ... it's kind of nice to have my emotions back. even if it can be a little embarrassing at times ....

Same here Vino - it's not depression - it's TEARS. I mean tears! I'm glad people have responded here - cuz I just thought it was plain odd!
