    TOPAMAX INTERACTIONS w/ANTI-DEPRESSANTS

    Am thinking about going on topamax after reading RJ's book, and some of the threads on this site. Does anyone know if there is any interaction effect with anti-depressants? I am currently on 6mg Avanza (Mirtazapine) and 10mg Zyprexa (Olanzapine).


    I'd appreciate knowing in advance before I go flagging to my DR.

    Good Question: I asked this question in chat when I first started and received answers from several long timers that they took various anti-depressants as well as topa without problem. I take Celexa and topo and experience some of the topa side effects (tingling, some word finding probs) but nothing else. Others will follow with more advice.

      I have an appt with my GP tomorrow so I'll check with her also. Any extra advice from others will be most apppreciated. Little bit concerned about the word-finding probs. Critical for me, since I'm a writer, and word-finding is my business! I gather this side-effect wears off? Is this what others have found?

        Kayla,

        Bumping up so doesn't get lost in the "noise."

        I could not take topa, so I can't answer, but I do recall others saying the side effects do wear off and/or you can take Adranifil to help with the topa dopa effects.

          Many people find the side effects to "wear off" but I did not. Everyone reacts differently to the drug. I would suggest you read the survey thread started by Paddy in this forum, it's very informational.

            Hi Kayla,

            Unfortunatley I did not find that the "word" loss and memory problems lessened with time.

            I took 100 mg. of Topamax daily for years and did not get my brain back until I titrated down to just a smidge at bedtime.

            It was worth my soberity though and I'd take it again in a heartbeat.
