    Mental states???

    All,
Just wondering how common my problem is. I have been struggling with Al for years.... In Jan I went to seek help from a psych. He said that I had chronic depression. I have gone from celexa to wellbutrin, and now feel even worse!!! For the first month on each drug I was good, but slowly got worse, and my drinking has increased. I am now to a point that I am consuming almost what I was at my worst.
I am struggling to find out if my shrink misdiagnosed me. After alot of net research, I feel that I may be bipolar..... I also found several articles that link Al abuse and manic depression..... Any thoughts, comments, insights??? Right now I am just at a point that I need some input before seeing the quack again tomorrow.....

    Thanks everyone!!!

    Mental states???

I,m a depressed person and turned to drink and drugs to make me feel happier or even cope. but I know the more I drink the worst my depression is as alcohol is a depresent. I can't give you advice cause i'm still drinking and I want to stop but you feel depressed so you drink and it may make you happy for a while but you end up even more depressed. Please see your doctor again tell him whats going on and don't settle for one opinan.

But it just goes back to the chicken and the egg question!! What comes first, and why do we do this to ourselves and our families???

        Mental states???

There are some threads on this very issue if you do a search of this site (top right hand corner). It seems there is a very clear connection between anti-depressants and increased AL consumption. I dont know anything about it personally but I have read some of the threads and they might be helpful to you.

Ditto on what BH said. Do a search on this forum and in Holistic healing.

Many of us here have experienced worsening drinking problems when taking anti-depressants. Anyway, anti-depressants don't work for many people (around 50%!). There are natural alternatives to anti-depressant drugs. And also, antidepressant drugs don't work if you are drinking, so it is kind of useless to try to use them to solve a drinking problem.

Also, many of us have found psychiatrists to be simply prescription-happy, throwing drugs at you, convincing you that this will solve your problems (and keep you coming back for more).
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
