        Hi WtoExhale
As one wine drinker to another,i wanted to connect with you. I ordered the topa online. I thought I was getting a good deal but after reading the threads I think not. Anyway, how is it going? And how has it affected your drinking? Would love to hear from you.

Hi ts, As far as "a good deal", do you mean the price? I needed to get it without a DR, and I trust this site and RJ so I felt that River was the place for me to order it from.

So far I am doing well with it. Not much side effect. A bit fuzzy a few days but nothing serious. I did 7 days at 25mg and than moved to 50mg and holding at that for 12 days. That's slower than the book says, but I'm going slower for two reasons: 1) I'm nervous doing it without a DR but have no other option, so watching for side effects carefully 2) Knew I was having major dental surgery yesterday and mixing in Valium and possible pain killers and did not want to increase my Topa dose at the same time.

I'm going to move to 75mg tomorrow as I won't need any more pain meds or valium now that I am through the worse of it.

I've moved from 2-3 bottles a day (FOR YEARS!) of white wine to now 3-4 glasses of red an evening. Not great but a big improvement for me. Each week I set a new and lower goal. I switched to red because I seem to sip rather than gulp. LOL

Also doing everything else I can get my hands on. Supps, CDs, Selenium for hair, reading and posting here EVERY day, exercising more, more water ... anything I can think of. Changing around patterns too like not being home alone so much (no kids or hubby).

I think it's combo of all of the above and the mindest. I forgot my L-Glut and Kudzu the other day and had weird cravings in the afternoon even tho I had taken the Topa. So I don't think it is just the Topa doing all the work, and I'm not sure it has really kicked in just yet .. who knows. Something is helping me that has now when things didn't work before!

Best of luck to you. I know we can beat it if we want it bad enough. I lost one of the important things in my life a few months back because of drinking. That was my "bottom". It was my final wakeup even though I've known for a long time I had a problem. The Universe finally had to give me one REALLY HARD ASS kick this time to make me listen. I'm all ears now and AM going to control this beast.

Keep us posted. Would love to hear how you're doing as well.

Hi Guys, I've been reading this thread with interest and finally got some topa after seeing a psychiatrist here in Australia - very hard to get your hands on here. She suggested that I would be okay taking 50mg as is the dose with binge eating, migraine etc. I took my second 25mg tablet a couple of hours ago and feel a little and shaky but really have no desite for a drink (placebo effect? we shall see) Anyway, so far, I recommend it! Feel very exciter. The psychiatrist mentioned that she has used it for other purposes over several years and has never heard of serious side effects. I am just so desperate for something to work! I too go through phases of two bottles of wine a night. Here's hoping. Good luck to you all.

There are recommendations for hair loss in the MWO book. I have been taking selenium, biotin and zinc. So far, I am not seeing a big difference.

I'm new I hope I do this right

:new: Hi, I have found these posts to be interesting.
First off I have been "addicted" to drinking or "over indulging" shall I say.... with wine consumption for about three years. Prior to that, never touched the stuff! ? Don't have any excuses, and even when I went to the doctor I didn't make any, the circles we were in drank socially and I found myself unable to control my amount, then I found out I was saying and doing things that were unprofessional and unacceptable.
My doctor immediately prescribed topamax, I had no clue what it was, I have been on it for 4wks. I was on 25mg for 2wks at her advise, then 50mg for 2wks for the last 2wks, well really it hadn't seemed to be helping me. Makes me sleepy though and sometimes hard to do my work cause I want so to nap.
Before taking the Topa I was drinking [mostly] nightly, never during the day about 1-1.5 bottles of wine. Since I started taking it, I drink sometimes a glass or two at lunch and a glass or two at night. So it seemed it was increasing, so I got ahold of myself and decided enough was enough. I had to realize I did not really want to stop, just gain control, find out what was happening, why was I losing control, was I an alcoholic?
Well last weekend my daughter came to visit, she drinks socially, I guess, or so she says, she is in her upper twenties and lives in upper Ca several hours away so her social life is not my daily interest.
Regardless she brought with her the desire to "have a few drinks" with mom, which quickly got out of hand and I got, well I called toasted. I apologized the next day and she told me if she knew I got like that she would have never drank with me. I told her I was trying to change and it was my hopes it would never happen again, I was so embarrassed but pleased we were at home.
Anyways, yesterday the doctor increased me to 75mg this week then 100 next week. I am here now and asking that any and all will offer and be supportive.
I cannot do AA I had a bad response to that, not going to explain. Personal choice right now.
                  :surrender:But,
                  I'm ready now!

Oh and the question about the hair........Nioxin it works! And up your Biotin

                    Welcome I'mReady!

I've found that working the entire program is what seems to be making it happen for me now. The supps and the CDs and the support here are the important backgrounds to the puzzle that made it "click" in my head and finally stay with my plan.

Happy to hear you are having luck with Nioxin. It never worked for me. I've naturally have thinning hair anyways. Bummer.I'm hoping the better eating and vitimins and exercise with help in the long haul.

                      Try it all!

I've been doing the Topa ~ 1 1/2 weeks at 25 mgs, 1 week at 50 mgs, and up to 75 mgs today, have been listening to the CDs as much as possible and have been religously taking the supplements, and I've definitely had a reduction in cravings for alcohol, with a pretty good reduction in drinking for me. For years, I drank ~1 1/2 bottles of white wine per night, and am down to a few glasses. I really agree with Waiting to Exhale that it seems to be a combo of all of the things, and especially a desire to cut back. I don't know exactly where it's going, but one thing is for sure, there's a behavioral aspect to my situation that all the craving reduction in the world will not address, but that the CDs probably do. Good luck to you!!!!
