Hopeful and wishing for tingly toes
I am now on 75 mg of Topa. I have gone from 25 mg to 75 mg in a little under two weeks. On 3 short occasions I have had tingly toes and feet but only briefly. I have noticed that lately I can't remember if it is '08 or '09. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, I am having a hard time spelling sometimes. I have noticed "some" control with my drinking. For example, I didn't drink at all dur:new:ing the daytime on Labor Day (our American holiday on Monday) until I got to a party at 6:00 pm. I nursed a drink until almost all of the ice melted. I noticed how fast a few others drank. I actually poured out part of my 2nd and last drink before I left instead of secretly slamming it at the sink. When I got home I had one more drink. I wanted one more night cap but resisted - something I never am able to do. Honestly I am still drinking, but much less. I am very hopeful that as I up my Topa that my desire and obsession will lesson. Please tell me it will. I still think about drinking throughout most of the day. I can't wait to FORGET about it for just one day.Tags: None

Take advantage of the lessened cravings. It is the beginning of a new healthier habit. I wish I could have tolerated Topa but it made me so stupid I could hardly walk. I think three drinks slowly consumed over a night is great!I'm really easy to get along with once people learn to worship me

Hopeful and wishing for tingly toes
Hi Miss M,
I'm up to 150mg of Topamax and I love how it has lessened the craving for alcohol.I was a Chardonnay girl at least five nights a week, but not any more. I've only had wine once in the past month. Now I can nurse a six pack of beer for a week. A lot of days I don't have anything to drink. I had brain fog in the beginning, along with fatigue, but it passed after a couple of weeks. I plan on dosing up another 100mg at least. My intent was not to go AF, but if that ends happening I won't mind at all. The obsession definitely does lesson as you dose up. Good luck!

Hopeful and wishing for tingly toes
I think many of us think about drinking even though we drink much less because it is still so new to us. it is a HUGE change for me. I'm on 100 mg of topa and am fortunate to have had no side effects except loss of appetite. I'm not trying to go AF and enjoy my almost nightly glass of wine, more on social occasions, and marvel that it is enough and no longer a problem.

MissM,
A thread in this forum about topamax was started by Paddy many moons ago.
You might want to dig it up and read through it. Beware, though, it is a long thread.
However, I did note that Paddy stated a lot of the bad side effects went away after some time.
Also, titrating up slower than the MWO recommended titration seemed to help others alleviate some of the brain fog.
I cannot take topa because I am allergic to it. Grrr.
I am truly hoping the topa helps you as well as it has helped so many others. It is a true Godsend for so many here.
Best of luck with it and wishing you strength and courage as you continue on your journey!!
Love,

Hopeful and wishing for tingly toes
Hi MissM,
I took Topa for 3 months but upped my dosage VERY slowly and when I finished I had only increased to 200mg as opposed to the recommended 300mg in the book.
I had tingling in my heels which was more annoying than anything else as it would happen whilst I was sleeping and I'd wake up scratching my feet LOL.
My memory has deteriorated in the last couple of years due to AL so I take Omega3-6-9 to help with the damage. I also forgot silly things when i started Topa and felt a bit blaaah for a week or so but after that it was plain sailing.
I still drank for those 3 months that I took Topa as my aim was to modd but like you have experienced I found myself sitting with the same drink for hours or even forgetting it was there. Use this time to create a new habit and set yourself goals for each week as to how much you will drink.
I found my goals changed drastically from when i first joined - I wanted to cut down to 1 glass of wine a day - to now - I am AF for 35 days and I am aiming for 60 days.
Wishing you well on your journey to sobriety."The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it"
