    Topamax/weight loss?

Can't say I've felt a reak "kick in" just yet, but something is working. I move to 100mg on Wednesday. Also have cut way back. From 10-12 glasses of wine a night to 2-3 without much problem. It's when I'm out that I get in trouble, so it's not so much the cravings .. just the social part of it I think.

      Topamax/weight loss?

Hey all. I just bumped up to 200mgs (been ramping up slowly, 25mgs every week, under doctor's supervision). With every dosage increase, I'll have a day or 2 of decreased appetite, but then it is back to normal. No weight loss (a few pounds would have been nice, but oh well!). I noticed a decreased desire to drink from the beginning. My goal is Moderation, not AF, but even so, I have some AF days peppered in here and there (and I would like to increase the number of those days!). I can easily be content with one drink now, maybe 2 on the weekends or if I am out. The thought of drinking does not plague my thoughts anymore, which is such a huge relief.
I bought all of the supps and the hypno CDs, which I have been slacking on, because the Topa has been doing such a good job. I know I could drastically increase those AF days if I incorporate all parts of the program again, like I was doing when I first started out.

And yeah, Topa definitely helps me sleep great too!

Switched at 180mgs of Baclofen on 1/31/11, and again on 10/8/11 at 200mgs.

        Topamax/weight loss?

I am now up to 75 mg's as of two days ago. I was a bit worried increasing that unwanted side effects would kick in where I have had none before, but nothing negative so far. I ride a motorcycle and my husband and I had a ride yesterday. I was afraid I might forget to cluch or shift or brake or something, but everything was fine. I did notice more of a lack of desire to drink and less of a desire to eat. Other than that no noticeable side effects. I really hope that continues. I am quite pleased with Topa so far. I do feel a bit sleepy during the day, but I am usually able to get myself out of it and I have had problems sleeping for years and now I sleep like a baby. So far I am so happy I have found this site and Topa.

What Script are you refering to?

yogagirl;425809 wrote: Thanks WTE ...I have to correct you right off the bat and say that it is less than a bottle in weekend..I wish it was a week and I don't want to accept accolades for something I did not accomplish. However, I usually drink two bottles each and every evening and I know the Topa has something to do with the decrease.

I ordered Topa from River Pharm and I am following RJ's protocol from the Johnson study. I am on day 4 of 25 mg with no major side effects. I have slight tingling in my heels but it is not bothersome in any way. I usually drink until I pass out. That is the only way I get to sleep. When I don't drink, I don't sleep. Now, I sleep like the dead. It's amazing!

I want to do this with a DR after this script runs out because I have great insurance...just too embarrassed.
First of all THANK YOU everyone for sharing. I am thinking of starting this program. How many doctors know about this program? Do you think it's common knowledge, or should I go into her office with The Lancet article? Wondering if my Doctor will support me. If not, would you recommend to try it on my own? And what script are you refering to in your post Yogagirl?
          Thanks for your input.

            Topamax/weight loss?

Zuzu, I would definitely take a copy of the Lancet article with you. Some doctors know about this off label use of Topa, and some don't. Mine didn't, but after I told him about the MWO program, and mentioned the Lancet study (which he asked to see), he said he prescribed Topa to some other patients for different things, and had no problem giving it to me to try. I also took a copy of RJ's book with a few pages bookmarked. When I mentioned the supplements, he asked to see the list of those, so I had that handy for him also. I think it definitely helps to be prepared!

I also really worried about whether or not my doc would support me, but thought it was worth giving a shot before resorting to having to order it online. I think it kind of helps to have in your mind what you want to say to your doctor also. I even mentioned this website and the forum and was able to report some other people's experiences with different doses, etc., as the Lancet study focused only on 300mgs. I think the more information you have, the more seriously your doctor will take you. And let your doc know that you're serious about making this change in your life, that you've seen how much incorporating Topa into the program has helped so many people on this site, and that you think it can really help you too, etc.

Best of luck if you decide to give talking to your doctor a shot!!

              Topamax/weight loss?

I've been taking Topa since January (with one month off this summer to see how I did without it) and I find it helps ALOT to cut the cravings. I'm a modder, used to drink a bottle a wine per night and now try to drink 7 - 8 drinks / week total. I do 4 AF days and 3 drinking days / week and limit to 1 - 3 drinks / night. SO the Topa helps me be satisfied with 1 or 2 drinks most nights, and to be satisfied with AF beer the AF nights.

I wanted to lose weight, and over the last year with Jenny Craig and more exercise I have lost 25 of the 30 lbs I wanted to lose. I am very very happy as I've wanted to shed these pounds for about 6 years and just didn't have the motivation . The weight didn't fall off when I cut back on drinking, and I'm not sure why; seems like missing all though empty calories should have helped, but I do eat healthier and probably more now.

ANyway I weigh 160 and have settled in at about 100 - 125 mg of Topa. I went off after 7 months to see what happened, and although I didn't feel dramatically different, I noticed I was back to drinking quickly (downing a glass in < 10 minutes and wanting another one right away) and decided that wasn't where I wanted to be, so restarted after a week.

There's a good thread on this site where people posted their age, weight dose and experience w/ Topa, that I found helpful reading prior to approaching my doc.

              Good luck all!

              Fondly,

              Ask.

                Topamax/weight loss?

Have you to have a perscription for topa? I am not sure my doc here in Ireland would be great for perscribing that. Can one buy it online? where? is it on the supplements section of here?

                  Topamax/weight loss?

                  Hi Mise and :welcome:
Yes you can buy topa online.
I have bought it from river pharmacy - link is on this site.
I have never had any problem getting it into Australia and it
arrives usually up to 2 weeks after ordering it. It comes from
India though it is manufactured in Switzerland. Just be careful
in starting slowly and working your way up. It's best to read
My Way Out book which explains how to dose up with topa slowly.
Read all the posts here about topa here is some really interesting
                  stuff. Good luck.Pan

                    Topamax/weight loss?

Thanks panadol, I am reading as much as I can. Like someone else on this thread I want to moderate, I can do for ages AF, but if I have one drink, then its gone in seconds, then another and another, so when I finish my imposed sixty days , I want to be able to moderate what I drink, and not want to keep going.

                          Topamax/weight loss?

BLAH!!!!!!!! I can't eat on Topa! Simply no thought or desire for food and I'm losing too much weight. Now down to 117# and I'm 5'9".

I put myself in a bit of a stressful situation last weekend and blew my program just a touch this past week, but not bad. And I know the stress had also added to not wanting to eat, but I have to find some tricks for getting some weight back on.

OK, for those of you TRYING to lose, or wanting to lose weight, don't hate me! Trust me, this is no fun either. I bet you still have boobs! =)

I've dropped back down from 150mg to 125mg of the Topa. No other side effects except this weight loss. I am modding well and was putting in some AF days before last weekend. About to get back there. Still taking all the supplements as well.

Anyone know of any products that may help? I'm drinking Ensure a few times a day and forcing down what I can. I've cut back on working out a bit, but that doesn't feel right either.

                            Topamax/weight loss?

                            Hi there
I just started on the Topa ( one day!) but it sure killed my appetitie ( and made me feel really lousy) but am hoping the lack of appetite and lack of desire for wine stays, and the feeling crappy goes. Good luck!
We're all trying hard here and there is so much support. Feel free to stay in touch.
