    Experience with Naltrexone

    Hi Kap

I felt a bit strange at first- nothing drastic- maybe a bit heady and like you say slightly shaky, but not so anyone would really notice. But I would be careful what you eat or drink at the moment- as I explained in an earlier post I ate one of my favourite meals about an hour after taking the first dose and still can't face it again! The thought of it makes me feel sick. That only happened after the first dose.

        Hi K
Glad to hear you have started the naltrexone. I sounds quite similar to the effect of champix which blocks the pleasure receptors in the brain from nicotine. Keep us posted on your progress/ experience.

          Experience with Naltrexone

Hi all - first day with Naltrex, 25mg this morning, 25mg a couple of hours ago. No noticeable side effects, but a very aware that my door of relapse is firmly closed and that feels good. Early days, however, shall keep posted.

              Experience with Naltrexone

Hi all..day four naltrex, NO side effects at all now (only 25mg per day but been told to up it to 50 from tomorrow). Had a slight fogginess pretty soon after very first dose, nothing else since - pretty grateful bout that. What I have noticed is that I have had two Emotional hiccoughs (one with my son, another with my boring addictive bloody head re:my incarcerated bf) and the THOUGHT of drinking to supress these emotions (anger/fear/pain) WAS NOT THERE> Now, I am not sure if this is psychosomatic (KNOWING that because of the naltrex a drink won't work) or if the naltrex has actually reduced cravings so hugley....what I DO know, is that it doesn't matter, the bottom line is: there was no thought of a drink, I dealt with my crap - it passed, and was resolved....I had adult thoughts and reactions, GOSH!! So I am endorsing the naltrex (for me), this site, and AA. living sober today is dam grand!!!

                    Experience with Naltrexone

Just checkin in again with my Naltrex exp! day 6 on it today, yes the cravings are way less, but as the desire to drink was removed some time ago, as a result of a true rock-bottom, am not sure if it is just "my time" to get my recovery serious, or the pills. It doesn't matter, and I'm not going to test it! Have had NO side effects. There are plenty of possible ones that can be experienced, but it has not effected me in any negative way! Grateful, sober kappers!

Hi all -- I'm new to this board. I just ordered Naltrexone on River, the Sinclair book on Amazon, and kudzu from MWO. I've got leads of supps. Can anyone tell me how fast River ships? I'm really excited to get started. Would anyone care to update re: their Naltrexone/Sinclair progress? The ones who don't seem to think nal works are the abs people. Anyone had trouble with mods on this program?

                        Experienced with Vivitrol

                        Hey Guys....and Gals,

I have been taking Vivitrol for 18 months. There was a gap (insurance problemos) for 4 months in the latter third of the last 18 months and guess what? I drank! Go figure! I need to give you my history. At 27 I quit cold turkey and did AA for 12 years. Started drinking again...Drank for 3 1/2 years. (Don't try this it sucks) Went to a psychologist for the first time open minded and he suggested Serequel and Vivitrol. Just out of curiosity, I drank 4 beers the night of my first Vivitrol shot. No buzz! Damn opiate blockers! LOL Anyway... i don't drink when I have the shot in my butt. I don't miss it. Alcoholism is progressive. If you don't believe the experience of myself or others, try drinking after a long period of non-consumption. I would prefer you don't. I have had a listening problem all my life. If you can take others experience and believe them, you have overcome a great hurdle many of us fight all our lives. Our egos. The shot works for me like a champ!

                        Take Care,

Hi, I got mine in exactly 17 days from the date of order. Good luck! ... and let me know how it works for you. I'm 15 days in and could use a support group.
