really long term useage of Naltraxone

I posted my hello and experiance in some other forums here so wont bore you. I was wondering if anybody had considerd takeing Naltraxone long term, using it like a seat belt? When i say long term I mean years, daily, just like your vitamins or asprin. I did a lot of research and it appears that there is no long term negitive side effects, in fact some people take low dose as a way to improve their immune system. I did test in on myself years ago, and it preformed as described, 1 or 2, but no buzz and certainly no euphoria. My rational is this, i know from my slip that the dragon (euphoria) is wating out there but with naltraxone i know he has no teeth.

I was wondering out how long it is safe to take it, as well.
U tube has a 4 part Sinclair Method video that talks about more research being done.
Maybe even Food and Sex addictions. They have a new drug that is similar but can't remember the name??
It (naltraxone) wasn't a magic pill but really did help me.

There is one the french guy is promoting and the time release version of naltraxone. The baclofen is about 3 x more expensive than naltraxone and the time release is huge at 700 bucks a shot (i have seen nal for as little as 2 bucks a pill). I think more meds will come out, and it will be a case of finding the one that is cost effective and works for you.

Very interestin thread start, Invent - I shall keep and eye here. I have been on Naltrex for 10 days now, it certainly has a positive psychosomatic effect, and "seat belt" effect, as you put it. I am not drinking with it (Sinclair method?) nor do I want to , nor am I going to, and have had NO side effects whatsoever. Thanks for starting this topic...

I have been on it 35 days now and years ago took it for 90 days with out any ill effect. I just didnt care about booze, it was just expensive funny tasting fluid. Long term, well I have read some stuff about people using it for a year or more with out any ill effects. The folk that take it for other reasons besides booz and opiates have taken it for many years but their dose is quite small about 10mg a day. I did some checking around, found nal for a couple of bucks a pill, so i am thinking about having my doc just script me for 365 of them...why not, one a day keeps the dragon at bay.

Well I was really wrong it looks like Baclofen is way cheaper then Naltraxone, you can get 100 of them for under 10 bucks. You take 3 a day, so 10 bucks a month, wow. There is a study going on by the Universty of North Carolina on the use of both togeather
Combination of Naltrexone and Baclofen for Alcohol Dependence:A Pilot Study. - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov
the results should be in by march 08. I did some further reaserch and there are lots of people who have taken Baclofen for 10 or more years with out any problems.

Hi this is a wonderful site, I am new! I am just starting (AGAIN), now for five days a combo of naltrexone (1 50 mg 1x a day) and baclofen (10 mg 3x per day). I am doing well, the only side effect is I have had a few headaches, and right now I am very thirsty for water. I have had no cravings, and I am a 24-7 drinker, I would drink in bed when I woke up, have a few slugs and go back to sleep, pathetic, and I am a surfer! Sick and sad. But I have real hope with this combo. I have tried the month injection of naltrexone, but I was ready and able to drink in three days, weird. I will stay in touch, wish me luck. PLEASE

:new:I FORGOT to say, it is my understanding naltrexone is damaging for your liver, that's why Drs. only give a script for 90 days. That is the reason it is "better" to get the shot, it bypasses the liver.

no they are both the same drug, both are excreated the same way, one is time release the other is not. The 90 day script is the on lable approved protocall. The use of it real long term has been explored via the low dose people (10-25 mg a day) where they take it for years. There is no evidence of liver damage with consumption of under 300 mg a day.

Thank you for explaining that to me, I have pretty good luck with the pill but I have been afraid of it because I did think it was bad for the liver, which is one reason not to drink.
I shall continue on my quest and course. :thanks:

The Dr.'s name is Olivier Ameisen and he has a book out. I have googled him and have an article he wrote regarding using "monotherapy" of high doses of baclofen. He has had success.
I somewhere came upon info to combine the 50 mg of naltrexone and 5mg of baclofen 3x a day. Now I am not finding my source for this program, I thought it was Dr. Ameisen. So now I am confused. In anycase, I have been not desiring drink, and last night I was in the throws of a wild alcohol new year party. I was fine. This is my 5th or 6th day now.
HEY! Now that I reread your post maybe we are not talking about the same "guy" I though you wrote baclofen not naltrexone. Sorry not mean to be confusing but it is confusing....
