    Just Started Campral

I just started taking Campral yesterday, and so far I haven't noticed any side effects. I have read a lot of people get gas and/or diarrhea, so I hope that doesn't start.

My biggest problem is that it is very hard for me to go more than a few days without drinking. The last time I drank was on 12/15, and normally by tonight I would start getting the itch to hit the liquor store. If I would wait another day or two, I would become very moody and anxiety would start to kick in until I completely caved in and got drunk. I really hope that this medicine will help curb the cravings so that I can stay away from drinking.

Alcohol has become a pretty bad problem and I have a lot of the same issues with it that many people have spoken about on this board. It has negatively affected my marriage, the time that I spend with my kids, and has made me feel pretty terrible on many, many occasions. I am glad that I am taking this step, and I will keep you posted on how Campral works for me.

    Hi Dolgr!
Campral works best if you have detoxed for 3 days or so. Have you tried any supps for craving? I wish you well on your journey! Keep posting and reading :lilangel:

      @ LTG

Well I got on Campral to help with the cravings, so no I haven't taken anything else to help with it. I understand that it may take a few days to become truely effective, and I am serious enough about not drinking to wait for it to kick in.

For me, I am fine all day, but as soon as nightime hits I have a lot of problems staying away from drinking. That is where I am hopeful this Campral can give me a hand. I'll keep posting in this thread over the next few days to update on how the Campral is working. I have tried to stop drinking enough times to know how much it sucks without taking anything.

Well, good for you for trying again. The Campral takes about 5 days to kick in. I also take L-Glut, Kudzu, and Royal Jelly for cravings. What do you plan to do to keep yourself busy during your trigger time?

I live in Minnesota and the weather is absolutely horrible right now so that limits what I can do big time. It's even too cold to go skiing right now; christ, the high today is going to be like 7 degrees and that will change once the sun goes down. I'm working right now and will be until 5:00 CST, so maybe I will just get on the PS3 tonight and keep busy with that. I have a gym at my work, and I love to workout, but it's a little far to drive over here at night. I usually go over on my lunch break.

Alot of people swear that exercise is the key to their success. Your weather just plain sucks...LOL!! It's been in the 20's and 30's here lately. I am ready for spring already. What PS3 games do you play? My husbo is addicted to WoW on the PC.

I've been playing WoW since '04 and after this last expansion I completely lost interest. My screen name here is the name of my dwarf rogue in WoW. On PS3 I have been into NHL 09 lately; it is the best hockey simulation that has come out yet IMO. I also have Star Wars: Foce Unleashed, Fight Night 3, Unreal Tournament 3, and a couple others. The latest Madden game looks like a lot of fun, but $60 bucks a pop kind of sucks. Especially when I can get any game/software I want on PC for free ; )

After my first detox (August, 2008) I was prescribed Campral. It took away my alcohol cravings very well but....possible side-effects include mood changes, sadness, depression, and fear. I have not talked personally to anyone who has used Campral, so I don't know how common the side-effects are. I was diagnosed with dysthymia in high school, and Campral spiraled me into a major depression within a few days. I thought it was just a result of quitting the bottle, until I read more about it and kept getting worse as the weeks passed. Eventually, I felt so depressed and I started drinking again while on it before quitting it completely. After my second detox in October, I decided not to go back on Campral and felt better as the days passed (but of course, the idiot-side of me thought I would try to have just one drink two weeks later and relapsed). I have been sober for 2 weeks on Wed. and although the depression is still there it, I am getting better and better each day. I do take Kudzu (a natural anti-craving supplement) and am also doing neurofeedback 2-3 times a week for addiction and depression. I want to avoid adding prescription drugs for alcoholism and depression. The Kudzu and neurofeedback really seem to be working. Camomile with honey is supposed to help out a bit, too. I'm not sure if past diagnoses of depression are enhanced by Campral or not, but I would be hesitant, or stop taking them if you start to notice serious symptoms, when you take Campral.
