    Strictly Sinclair Method Weekly Thread

Hi. Brand new to this forum and not sure if I am posting my message in the right spot - but here goes.

I have been on the Sinclair method 22 days and things are going ok. I have been a heavy drinker for years. Due to medical reasons which lead to me losing my job and not working since March of last year I have become a VERY heavy drinker.

I have quit many times but slipped back into it after a short while so I hope this method works. I have the book and on page 167 (revised addition).

I just have the book and the Naltrexone and that's all. I just got my info off the internet and asked for a perscription - that's all I have - not Dr support or anything.

I have a lot of questions but see that the last blog is from Dec of last year.

First question - is this blog still active? Last blog seems to be from Dec of last year.

Anybody been on the program for 4 months or longer - hopefully with success?

Been married for for 27 years so I hope this question isn't taken wrong - but - should I have sex with my wife while on it? You know - since it blocks endorphins.

I have many more but want to see if I get replys (don't know if site is active) but will wait and see if my first questions are replied too before I spill all my beans.

Hope to hear from someome. Need it because I feel alone at this point.

        Hi Iceman

No need to feel alone, quite a few of us here follow TSM and have had great success with it. Have you found and registered with the Sinclair Method forum?

I'll have been on TSM for 2 years in April this year with absolute success - I have zero cravings for alcohol, most of the time chose not to drink and when I do it's like a normal person (so I might just have one glass, or I might have a few more but always without the negative consequences or desire to drink right through the next day).

Sex?Some say TSM affects them, others not. Although upregulation etc is important for healthy behaviour promotion, I'd not abstain. You could try saving it for days when you don't take TSM however you could then become addicted to sex which I'm not sure is necessary!
I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.

Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years

Thanks UKblonde for the reply. Good to hear that there are successes.

I assume that the UK means you are from the UK?? (I am from the US - or as my old British chum put's it, "he is from the Colonies.") The reason I brought this up (not to get personal) is to ask if anything has changed in the UK since Eskapa wrote the book. It seems (I have not finished the book) that it was not approved for alcohol unless you hired a private doctor.

I have more questions but have to get - thanks for the reply - a least I know I am not alone.

Oh - how do I register with the Sinclair Method Forum?

Yes I'm in the UK, still am.

Drs can prescribe Naltrexone 'off label' on the NHS if they have enough support and evidence. I firstly went to a private consultant in Scotland who prescribed privately, then when my GP could see my progress she sought the support and opinion of a drug and alcohol specialist attached to the local drug & alcohol team. He met with me, had a long talk and his opinion was she should prescribe and continue to do so.

Click on the register link on that page, I have heard the 'proof you are human' questions are a bit difficult but you can only try!

              To UKblonde

Just became a member of The Sinclair Method forum and not sure how to find the "proof you are human." I typed it into the "search" and came up with nothing.

I did that and became a member. That was one of the questions to become a member to keep out spammers. I knew the answer but I typed it into google search just to make sure. It's from "Gilligan's Island" the TV show. You must be very young (I'm 47), not watch too much TV, or not from the States. It was VERY popular - little stupid - but popular.

Is that what UKblonde was referring to whith her statement, "Click on the register link on that page, I have heard the 'proof you are human' questions are a bit difficult but you can only try!"

I thought that "proof you are human" was a blog string or something (not the question to become a member).

How long have u bean on TSM? Working for u?

                  Thanks for the reply jokerman!

                    Iceman,

I am Christopher, over on Gilligan's website. I'm in week 7, and I believe it to be working. It's been months without a day off, and I have had 2 recently.

                      Dear Friends,
I am wondering if any of you know any of any doctors in Melbourne Australia who support the Sinclair Method?
                      I need support and advice.

I have a question about Naltrexone side effects. I took my first does of 25mg on Saturday 1 hour before drinking a six pack of IPA beer. Later that evening I was totally knocked out in bed as if I had taken a sleeping pill. On Sunday I took another 25mg before have a couple beers at a restaurant while celebrating mothers day. Later that evening I was perfectly fine...no drowsiness.

Day 3 on Naltrexone I upped the dosage to the full 50mg 1 hour before drinking a six pack of beer. This time, it was interesting, it got me off the computer internet surfing and started doing more productive things, however later in the evening it's like if I had taken a valium or sleeping pill...I was totally a vegetable in bed, couldn't even focus on what was on TV, all I wanted to do was sleep.

Is this a normal side effect? Sunday I was fine, I guess since I upped the dosage yesterday it made me sleepy?

Some people do seem to get some pretty bad SEs from Nal. I never really did buy from what I've read they seem to subside over a week or so.

Drowsiness especially when combining alcohol with Naltrexone is a side effect, however normal people do tell me alcohol makes them feel sleepy so I looked upon it as a sort of normalish effect, also going to bed early curbs drinking too.

Hi folks. Just signed up. My psychiatrist told me about TSM yesterday, and asked me to look around about it. Have been on the internet all day, and was lucky enough to find this forum. I notice that there have been no posts since May. Please tell me I'm not too late to have somebody to talk to when I start.

Would be nice to see this thread reasserted. The TSM board can be really dead at times.
