Yesterday marked 2 months on Naltrexone, see some benefits but certainly not cured yet. One big one was I ALWAYS wanted 'one more drink' when I got home, that is gone. Totally committed to it. Question; does anyone else get sore muscles/joints on it. Would love to hear all the success stories! Thanks.

TSM is pretty strange alright. I had great success but messed about with dosing for about 10 days. What I couldn't get was that after the 10 days and I had started back on TSM, it just didn't work anymore even after another 3 months of strict dosing. I just don't see how 10 days could do that. When I started I had success after a week so in highlight why the total reversal at the second attempt?

You really need to have balls to do TSM as it just might not work for you say after say a year... I'd be pretty pissed if I found out it didn't. I suppose your just gonna drink anyway so theres no harm in trying I guess.

          TSM does require commitment.

I tried it for about three months and had no success.

Hopefully, you will get back on track. It does seem odd that 10 days really messed things up.

This is correct. In Dr Eskapa's book there is a section which contains graphs describing the responses of super-alcoholic rats to TSM. There's a nice little one showing how their consumption dropped dramaticaly, there's also a graph showing how quickly they became readdicted when Naltrexone was withdrawn - it's much faster than the deaddiction process.

From this I'd say you have probably put yourself right back to square one. I've also heard that using an endorphin blocker multiples the number of receptors, and my logic would say that remove the blocker and then you are MORE susceptible to addiction.

By the way I used TSM for just under 2 1/2 years. Cravings were gone by end of month 6, but I did have the odd spike (drinking episode which appeared out of control) every so often. The cravings didn't return BUT I chose to go AF at 2 years 3 months, partly because yes I didn't know what would happen in the future, but also because it was there on a plate for me - no cravings so no problem, I looked upon it as insurance for the future.

See my explaination above about the ten days.

            Some people need 6-12 months.

I'm very OCD about things so I never drank without Nal, and I'm glad I didn't.

Thats the thing thought UK. Even if I did put myself back to square one. Shouldn't I have started having success like the first time round. Example being... My units halved basically over night when starting first time, so I'm a bit perplexed as to why after back into the protocol for months it was basically like taking sugar pills?

Hey there, great you've ordered the book, reading reinforces the method. Make sure to keep track of units and always use nal before drinking.

I'm wondering if your reasons for drinking have now changed. Discussed something like this with another member from here just when I decided to go AF. One of the questions asked was 'how do we know your chemistry won't change, anxiety becomes the issue'. Nal attacks drinking from one angle only, baclofen another so might be worth trying this.

                      On My Way

I got the book yesterday and read about 100 pages last night. It definately reinforces TSM. I wish I had known about this method 10 years ago. But, I read the book, take my Nal, and post my units.

Good, keep us posted and remember consumption can increase at certain points.

No I haven't experienced this, well actually I tell a lie. I have had sore muscles and joints since starting TSM but ONLY because I started training, and training to a high level again. Definitely some soreness expected!

                              Newbie here - concerns

                              Hello,

I have been struggling with alcohol abuse for about 6 years. I have been on this forum before but new to Naltrexone. I bought the book and started it yesterday (last night). It was pretty damn amazing...I had a double cocktail after work with a colleague (usually drink wine) and had a bottle of merlot waiting for me at home. I finished my cocktail AFTER my colleague (never happens!) and then at home drank about a half glass of wine. Who is this person in my body?? Lol. I just didn't want it. Problem was, it made me feel nausea and anxiety. I have a lot of health/medical related anxiety/fear, so while the feeling is nothing new to me, I REALLY don't like it. I start thinking about all the horrible things that are very likely about to happen ANY second, like a heart attack, stroke, seizure, insanity, etc., etc. I'm a healthy 44-year-old, so OF COURSE these are all right around the corner! lol. Not sure if the anxiety is med-related or worry-related, but I have noted it as a common side effect. Anyhoo...I haven't had a lot of time to read the forums but would love to hear from ya'll regarding your side effect experience. Can I just calm my arse down or are there significant concerns? My biggest fear right now is seizures, but I am not at risk of withdrawal-related seizures and worry about this as an effect of the medication. Btw, I have never had a seizure, so of course my worrying makes perfect sense!! 8-p

Thanks for reading and sharing! Hope to have more time to say more later. Off to my first therapy appt with a CD counselor!

                                Hi Lisa

I'd guess your anxiety could be a result of your lowered alcohol intake, learning not to drink takes time, takes hard work and is something you just need to get used to. Nal does have a bit of a mood dampening effect but that's what we want it to do when we are drinking. No point it making us happy, that's not going to put us off drinking the grog.

Can you exercise or take part in some mindful meditation to help? It's a big change going from booze fuelled socialising, to being ourselves without the boozey boost but it is really quite possible.
