    RV9 - Where Are You???

Hi - I'm KrazyKris on the TSM board, and I'm going nuts because it's still down! :upset:

I can't believe how much I rely on it, and I feel like someone's cut off my right arm! I'm glad to see several of the members post here, which is why joined. Seems like there are a lot of great people here too, but I still want the TSM board back! Do you think RV9 is on vacation where there is no Internet access? How did we survive in the old days, when nobody had computers? :H

I had a great, productive weekend with moderate drinking (for me), even though I had plenty of opportunity to "go for it". So glad I found TSM! Hope you're all doing well, and that we'll be posting on the TSM board soon.

I am in the "planning" stages of taking Nal. My husband and I have been doing a lot of reading and reserach to make sure it's the right choice for me. I'm both excited and frustrated, after 20 years off and on of AA type treatment, that I'm just finding out there is another way! I'm just wondering if anyone has advice on how to approach my Dr. about this and not get shot down. I'm certain if I explain that I want to use the Sinclair Method I'm doomed.

I wouldn't explain that to him. I would tell him you want it for its anti-craving properties, etc.

Most doctors are clueless what it does, anyway.

Tell him you want to try it and see if it helps you stay AF.

        Good luck!!

Thank you. That's what I was thinking i'd have to do.
I see that you have taken both baclofen and naltrexone. Are you currently taking both? If not, which did you find most effective? Obviously, moderation would be ideal, but my real goal is to just stop thinking about drinking all day EVERY day. It also seems like the nal would be more attainable by a doctor, as it is actually FDA approved for the treatment alcoholism. I also like the Sinclair Methods approach more than the baclofen "cure" because it does not require taking the nal every day. I take medication for ADHD, so I am concerned about any interaction there. Obviously doc will clear that issue up....
Anyone else who has tried both, I would love to hear your experiences as well.

I agree with Cinders. Most physicians have no clue about TSM and aren't interested in learning. Just tell him/her you've heard it helps with cravings and would like to try it.

You are lucky to have a supportive hubby who will research this with you! Mine wants me to go straight to AA, but I have been and I can't get on board with the principles. I'm on week 11 with the nal, so too early to tell. It definitely has reduced my cravings, but I still drink as much....waiting for the 4-6 month mark.

If you decide to go with TSM, it requires a lot of patience and trust in the process, trust in the science. You may have to occasionally remind your husband about the time frame -- 3-4 months MINIMUM. Many on the Sinclair board are finding it is closer to 5-6.

Good luck in whatever path you choose!

Unless you have a real talking relationship with your MD, just tell him you want to take it to relieve the urge to drink. That is what the circular says it is for.

In my case, my family practitioner ( a D.O.) is a pretty good friend. I told him the whole story. He was leary at first, wrote me the script and said that he could not tell me to drink. I have kept him up on my progress and he is now fascinated. His PA (physicians assistant) got her brother on it. I think an LPN has gotten her husband on it. Hell, I'm starting a movement.

Start out slow but once you are sure it is working for you, do tell them. That is how this methid will grow.

I have been on the Method since Jan. 13th. Somewhere in May, I called the game and declared victiory. At present, I rarely drink but I PLACE NOT EFFORT AT NOT DRINKING. To do so is to be counter productive. I actually look for urges just to flush them out of the back of my psychy. As you progress, that will make sense to you.

Welcome aboard. Your journey will be bumpy and you will feel somewhat unsure quite a bit of the time. If not, yo are probably doing it wrong.

Stay with the protocol. Follow it deliberately. And always remember
              NAL + DRINK = SUCCESS.

              No other formula works.

Read my post and others. It will be darkest before the dawn but the light will come.

See mine and other posts on here and TSM.

                  SR,
Thanks for the hope. I need it right now. I miscalculated dates, I am actually starting week 11 today but discouraged and panicked at my lack of progress. Trying to keep your words of encouragement in mind. Please keep visiting the boards!

Hi All! Does TSM work for heroin addiction same way as it works for alcohol? Does anybody here have heard of somebody who uses Nal for heroin addiction?

Thank you Cinders, for the site, but i wanted to hear from someone who has an experience or knows somebody who has an experiece of treating it with TSM. I have no doubts that it works wonders for alcohol and even smoking. I am thinking of helping smbody for heroin and therefore researching and need more info.

I actually think that Natrexone was originally developed for opiate users such as heroin so I do believe you will find alot of research there. I think its use with alcohol has come out of that.

i am into the fourth month of TSM. my experience has been is not to worry about how much alcohol you are consuming. only do it with some safety i.e. no driving cars or machinery and dont drink anymore than you usually do, it wont stop alcoholic poisoning. you've got to have some faith in the science, as the book points out. i must admit, there were times, where i was worried about the amount of still consuming, whilst on naltrexone. but slowly and surely the interest, cravings and consumption started to decline

Hi All, just looking for input from those of you taking NAL. I am on week 9 and have definately noticed my desire and units are decreasing. I used to be consumed with thoughts of AL all day long till I got home from work and then I would drink til I fell asleep. Weekends were tricky, if I had something planned I would be ok during the day but still drink at night til I fell asleep. Today is Sunday and in the past I would drink starting at about noon and drink til I fell asleep then wake up about 4 or 5 and drink again til I fell asleep. Today I have no AL in the house and really don't feel any urge to go get any. Between taking NAL and reading the posts here and on TSM forums my thinking is definately changing. I would love to read more from others who are on the NAL journey. My goal is to be completely indifferent to AL and hopefully never drink it again.

                                Thanks for sharing!:thanks:
