    Strictly Sinclair Week 2

    Hi All,
I stopped at the liquor store on the way home from work and bought some Tequilla. What is funny is that I am now buying my mediciene. I've had always felt a little guilty when I bought liquor, especially since I was on a "slip". Now I feel a little devilish because I am "doing the next right thing".

I must admit that I am seeing some change, even in only two weeks. I have not drank myself to passing out, which I did regularly before. I now go to bed. Actually the Nal makes me a little drowsy, which is a good thing. I generally start my drinking late in the day, after the girls have gone to bed. It's a shame thing, after so many years in AA. But it is not a bad habit.

The grip of alcohol is loosening, ever so gradually, but I do feel I am on my way.

May we all be in each others prayers.

SR -- Glad to hear you are beginning to make progress. I too find that subtle changes are occurring. Mostly if I am busy as the day goes on I do not find myself starting to obsess about when I can have that first drink. Last night I had some guests who were non-drinkers. They don't mind at all if I drink but I did not even think about wine with dinner. Very unlike me. I did "take my medicine" later. Yes, prayers for all on this hopeful journey. -- Lena

        Hi all,

I received my nal today!!! I am so excited! Got it through River.... VERY expensive. But, I'm with Lena. I'd rather not have the psychiatrist/MD involved. For me, at this point, it's more a shame and embarassment thing than a medical record thing, though. As far as the liver function aspect goes, I figure 3-4 months more of liver abuse is better than indefinite liver abuse.

Since I'm drinking almost all day, I took 25 mg at noon and struggled to make it until 1 to have a drink. I'm feeling a bit nauseous at the moment.

Anyway, I want to thank all of you. This thread has given me SO much hope. I'm still waiting on my book, but I have listened to the podcast and I'm following the method, starting TODAY!

Hey Vic -- Glad you are able to start! I was so flattened by that first naltrexone dose that it took some courage to take it the next day. At least you followed the Sinclair Method and took a half dose. I got carried away and took 50 mg the first day but was surprised at how I went from very sick to pretty much no side effects in two days. You're on your way! Keep reading; knowledge is power! Prayers -- Lena

            Hi Vic,
Glad you could join us. I felt like I was going to puke the first two days. I wasn't sure if it was the Nal or the hangover. If you have not read the book, go to some of the links found in these threads. I posted on for Dr. Sinclair's POD case and another for his web site. You can easily google both.

I used my insurance for Nal. Only $3 for 30. Saw it on the web for $50 to $300.

For once I am not ashame. We are Santa's broken toys! We simply acquired a little chemistry inbalance. As Eskapa says, we were quick learners. For years I tried to figure "where I went wrong" but now it makes sense. If this works, I will be standing naked on my rooftop screeming, "I'm cured!" Well maybe not naked unless I loose 40 lbs.

I have lost good friends to alcohol who struggled in AA. One committed blue suicide (forced a cop to shoot him) a year ago. These weren't BAD people. Their system just learned what it was told, like we have.

Follow the protocol and let the unlearning work. I am nursing a Tequilla right now and know it is my mediciene.

We are on our way. I know we are.

Well Lena. I think it is about time you start another weekly thread.

            Thanks:h

LenaLeed, I noticed your tag line:
"Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."

We have a pet pot-bellied pig named Stanley. He is asleep beside my bed right now. He isn't much at singing but snores like a..., well like a pig!

When he wakes up in the morning, he comes out in the kitchen and DEMANDS that we kiss his nose. We started this tradition years ago (have had him 9 yrs.) and if we forget, he will keep nudging us until we comply. Once he is kissed by both of us, he goes on about his day.

              Go figure

                  Lena and SR,

Thanks for the encouraging words! I'm feeling like a part of this community, even though I've just started.

Is anyone on this thread using supplements to curb cravings? Since my book hasn't arrived yet, I don't know what is recommended. I'm using all the homeopathics that MWO suggests (bought them at a local health food store) . Not so sure that they're helping, yet.

I drank just a tad less than usual, yesterday (first day using nal). Got drunk faster, felt VERY tired, and woke up w/ a hangover. Even though I drink a lot, I usually wake up sluggish, but not hung over ...

I am feeling very optimistic and very patient. I don't expect immediate reuslts. After years of drinking, the thought of feeling and doing better in 4 months is worth waiting for.

BTW, my mom was a strict AA advocate. She enjoyed 20 years of sobriety. I have some guilt about not joining the "fellowship" and following the "program". Abstinence??? At this point I can't even imagine abstaining... nor do I know if I ever will.

                  Later!
                  Vic

                    Good morning all --

Solice -- Sinclair and Eskapa specify 50 mg Naltrexone after the first wo days. That is the amount necessary to cover all the brain's opioid receptors. So we take 50mg each day we are going to drink. That is the Sinclair Method dose.

Vic -- So glad you're with us! Supplements are probably important for our alcohol-compromised overall health, but they are not a part of the Sinclair Method. Anything to curb cravings is definitely not part of the Sinclair Method. Drinking, after taking Naltrexone, is healing, so curbing cravings would be counter-productive. Our cravings will wane and eventually disappear as we heal.

                    DRINKING + NALTREXONE = CURE

SR -- Does the pig kiss you back??? I've heard those pot-bellied pig make excellent pets.

New thread starts every Sun a.m. so whoever is the first to post can start it.

                    Stay safe all -- Lena

I agree with Lena. I would not take things that may deaden the desire to drink. That is the beast we are taming and if he is not there, there is no one to tame. I was looking at over the counter sleep aides but since most alter your seretonin levels, I decided to rough it out.

Stanley kisses in his own way. When you think of acquiring a pig, think that you are adopting a child, not raising a pet. They are far more complicated (read:intelligent) than a cat or dog. You can't just throw him out in the yard of tie him to a tree. They are members of the family.

                        Hello!

Gosh. trying to keep everyone's names and stories striaght. You all have so much to contribute.

Seems like potato, RV9, and Lena are the "veterans" on this thread. Keep the rest of us informed! We need to hear of your progress and experiences!

The pig... such an intelligent animal... Makes you wonder how people can eat them?!?

My avatar is a hummingbird. Lots of reasons for choosing this to represent me, but the biggest reason is wrapped up in the word "hovering". These tiny birds just hover as they acquire their nourishment. I feel like I'm just hovering around the fringes of life, survival, and maintaining relationships at the moment. The medicine, my optimism and hope in the Sinclar method, and this thread are my "nectar" right now.

You are my nectar and you are all in my thoughts as you become healthier and happier!

                          BTW, Lena,

The way I interpreted your "teaching pigs to sing" quote is this:

Husbands, wives, parents, siblings, and/or children can tell you how badly you need to stop drinking, BUT until you (we) begin to feel the need, it's kind of like a mosquito buzzing around your ear. "Go away! Just leave me alone!"

The pig will only sing if it wants to do so!!

This pig is ready to sing an aria!!

                          Vic

Hi All. Love the analogy vic, hovering.. Currently hovering in life, relationships, sanity, sense, survival and all.. For all our sakes I hope this 'cure' works..

How's this for 'progress'?? Had my first beer around 1 today, have had 10 beers since, just had dinner and not having any more for now. Strange that I actually can sit here, read and type with OUT a drink in hand, actually have water. Stranger yet that I can consider heading out with a friend for a while and even stranger that a drink is not why I'm going?!?!?!? This has gotta work in time.. Just wish instead of having had '10', I only had 1 or 2., or better yet, NONE... Another few weeks maybe????

                              Hey Solice,

Sounds like you're beating yourself up! Progress IS F'ing progress!! You are drinking water, for goodness sake! Baby steps! AND you are about to go out without the focus being on drinking!

I am so brand new to this whole thing, but every morning when I wake up I HAVE to tell myself what I did that was right versus beating myself up over what I did wrong. (Honestly, still beating myself up, but I'm trying to send myself positive messages!)

                              Be safe, tonight!

                              Vic

So good to hear things -
I've got Dr. appts next week. I want to get tested and go thru an MD to get insurance coverage. Hopefully this time next week I will be sharing the nal feelings. LOL IN the meantime, friends, I am drinking my 8th glass of wine and feeling only mildly guilty. Hoping very soon I will be "medicating" myself.

I hope this is true, that it works...will be so bereft of hope if not...
