    Strictly Sinclair: Naltrexone Done Right

    Hi Cash

    Big :welcome: !!

That is great news that you are starting- did you tell your doctor you were going to be following the Sinclair method?

If so which country are you in?

Sorry for the questions, but I am interested in knowing if the word about the Sinclair Method is finally getting out.

Good luck, and remember to let us know how you get on!

I have discovered the Sinclair method through this website and done a lot of reading in the past fews days since we went to the doctor to request a prescription. We are both up for this method and appreciate all the info in these pages. We collect our Nal tomorrow. We will be in touch and look forward to sharing with you all. Your all doing a great job!:new:
I suggest you also take a look at The Sinclair Method.

        Strictly Sinclair: Naltrexone Done Right

        Night 1

        Hi Marbella and Springer,

I write to you tonight at 9pm pm after one beer and one glass of wine. Poured a 2nd glass 20 mins ago but haven?t taken a sip yet ? not through any major Psyching myself out of it but not super interested. Normally that would have been 3 beers and 3 glasses .My hubby and I took a Nal each at 4.30.
It is a little weird being so sober. We live in Australia and can get Nal on prescription here from a GP. So I went to a random one (as I thought I would be so emabarrased) and he said matter of factly ? it is the same as taking medication to give up smoking isn?t it? then proceeded to lecture me on AA (never would have happened) and abstinence. Luckily since then I found this forum and the Sinclair method one (thanks SpingerRider)and have read all I could find and decided that Sinclair method made so much sense. I am little amazed ? actually a lot amazed. I was a tiny bit light headed about 5.15 ? nothing too serious at all though. Was counting the minutes until the hour was up and I could have a drink at 5.30. Shazam! Here I am still sober. My first observation is that wine tastes much nicer sipped infrequently and not guzzled. Never thought I would be saying that in this life.

It is wierd isn't it? I couldn't believe it when I let my beer go warm because I couldn't be bothered to drink it!

Maybe you could start a weekly progress thread at the other forum that Springer mentioned? It is very helpful for new people looking for information on the method.

            Hey Cash,
When you get over to TSM, be sure to find Greg and tell him about acquiring Nal down under. He seems to be having serious trepidations.

And you two are doing great!

              3 days in...

I am 3 days in to the sinclair method and didn't take my meds 1 hour before drinking yesterday. I took it after I already had 3 beers. I ended up drinking way too much. However, the other times that I took the meds I seemed to be more in control. Has this happened with you. Is it really working or is it the placebo effect?

Ok, very strange question.....what happens if you gon on an all inclusive vacation and you start drinking at 10am and don't stop until say after dinner.....I'm not going on vacation for a while, but I have been known to start when the bar opens in the morning and drink all day and into the evening. Would I just take one pill that morning and that's all?

I am waiting for my book and for my meds.....I am trying to get some AF under my belt for a while....then start the TSM.

What forum are you guys speaking of? TSM?

Hi Grits, at least you took it 3 beers in, but there is only one rule
on the method and it is to take it an hour before drinking!

If you really can't manage the hour, at least take it with the first drink- if you kind of mess around with it, and sometimes take it and sometimes don't take it, it can do you more harm than good.

I always have it in my car, in my house, in my purse and at my work- that way wherever I am, it is to hand.

You will probably find you are in the 'Honeymoon' period- that is the first week or so you don't feel like drinking that much, however don't be surprised if your drinks go up again in weeks 2 and 3, after this most of us have found a decrease without us really trying.

Just remember the golden rule- always take the Nal before starting to drink!

                  Good Luck.

Christy, we have discussed that recently over at thesinclairmethod.com (the other forum) and it seems one tablet should cover you for at least a day, or 36 hours, so assuming you will be drinking for around 12 hours (?) you should be fine.

On the 1 or 2 occasions I have started to drink early while on it, I haven't really felt like carrying on all that late, I just began to feel tired rather than drunk.

Cacky, I suggest you get the book by Dr Roy Eskapa, 'The Cure for Alcoholism'. It explains the method in full- which basically entails that you take 50mg of Naltrexone only on the days you are going to drink.

Although when you start the treatment that may be everyday, as you get further into the treatment there will be days you don't want to drink, so for that reason the shot of Naltrexone is not really effective for the Sinclair Method.

I have been reading there as well. I guess I missed that question.....sorry.

Christy - It was my question - you know how I can be.

                            Sounds like we are covered.

My damn book has STILL not shown up! YOU?

WTE--too funny!!! I had forgetten you mentioned it (Bloody Mary's). I wanted to make sure that one pill would do the work for the day, and it's good news.

I have NOT received my damn book! I got a paper in my mail to pick up a parcel at the post office, so hopefully that is it! I did mention to my husband that I have a couple plans in place in terms of drinking--I told him I was going to clear my system for a bit, and then I had another method of moderating and controlling. I didn't explain the entirety. I'm not sure he would 'get it'. He is a practical person and doesn't understand medicines and psychological intricities (sp). So if it works, that's what he's concerned about, then end result. It probably would help for him to understand.

Christy - I'll say it again here, not only for you, but perhaps for the benefit of others.

Hubby is NOT going to understand your possible "honeymoon" stage and what may occur after that.

Think about it as if you were watching from the outside with no information:

Christy all of a sudden reduces her intake. GREAT!

A week (or two) later Christy is drinking as much as she used to. That looks like failure GF! When in fact, it seems to actually be part of the cycle at it's very start to recovery.

Get that boy on board! =) Smooch!
