Sunshine, you may feel a bit out of sorts the first week- most people describe nausea and a slight feeling of disorientation. I think I had it worse than most, but I was able to carry on as usual without anybody noticing anything.

This quickly passes, most people find after 2 days they are fine, and don't feel a thing. I was a bit nervous about going from 25mg to 50mg- but I did not have to be, there were no side effects at all.

Planning to join the other forum as well....

Had a honeymoon last night (lol..)

Took my Nal at 5:15 was not able to get first beer until 7:00 because of a meeting.

Couldn't even drink 1/2 of it before I just didn't want anymore.

I know I have a few rough weeks if I follow the normal pattern but I feel so much better this morning...except now I have to deal with the broken heart and lonliness that I have been covering up in AL for so long......That kinda sucks!!

Yeah! My book arrived as well. Christy - we're tracking on exactly the same time frames. Now for the meds to arrive ...

Sillygrits - That's encouraging! And I hear you on the heartbreak and loneliness thing - something I'm finally going to have to face soon as well. We'll get through it. I figure it this way: Maybe not drinking so much liquid depressant, we will actually feel better about it all?

I agree with you WTE...liquid depressant can't be helping too much with all of it...but you know....numbing out was fun until I woke up in the morning feeling like poop and all the pain was still there...just hidden behind the hangover and self pity...lol....its a vicious cycle...Just wish I didn't feel so needy for something (aka. a man) to replace my bottle and lonliness....oh well...life moves on...

                Allow myself to introduce... myself

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Bob. I have been an alcoholic since 1989, coincidentally the year I was struck by lightning. In 2004 I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist as being hypomanic and OCD (no surprise to me being a neat-freak that slept only 4 hours a night and didn't drink coffee). Since 2003/2004, I have tried to stop drinking. I am on attempt number 30 right now. Some periods of abstinence are longer than others. I have never broken the 90 day AF "target".
I have tried quitting on my own.
I have tried quitting with a psychiatrist's assistance
I have tried quitting with a psychologist's assistance
                I have tried AA
I have put a contract out on myself ($50/week) if I was not abstinent (Stickk.com).
I have tried Schick-Shadel Aversion Therapy (which can be undone, if you find the right "niche" beverage).
I have tried "SMART Recovery" (the best support group I have found to date).
                Meds:
I have tried Antabuse for a month with very severe side-effects.
I have tried Campral for a year and a half with no obvious effect.
I have taken Ipecac with alcoholic beverages to train my inner brain to reject alcohol (Schick-Shadel Aversion Therapy).
                I am now trying Naltrexone.

In short, I have tried everything I can think of. I am now trying the Sinclair Method. I am on 50mg Naltrexone per day and FORCED myself to have alcohol 1 hour after a Naltrexone pill today. The feeling was different. The alcohol was acting as an anxiolytic, but the euphoria was absent. I don't feel like I want anymore, although I want the anxiolytic effects, since I am hypomanic. Since my wife was upset that I was experimenting on myself again, I agreed to stop drinking until the end of the week when I receive my book "The Cure for Alcoholism by Dr. Roy Eskapa" based on Dr. Sinclair's method's.

Well... that's about it about me. An alchy trying to quit no matter what the cost or sacrifice and still trying like hell.

                Hello everyone!

Gyco, You're writing style is difficult to follow, but I think I got the jist of what you were saying.
WaitingToExhale My wife will read the book when I get it. Right now, she doesn't understand how hard it is. Like Dr. Sinclair says in an interview " It's like holding your breath until you die; our brain is wired not to do that", so we cannot do it even though we have full control over our lungs. Our brain can't do it. Just like our brain cannot stop drinking unless there is some external driver, such as a medication to break the alcoholic "wiring".

                        Thanks for the welcome!

Well, I tried to finish my Guinness 6 pack today while taking naltrexone 50mg each day after 3 days and I couldn't finish Guinness #3, Guinness #5 and I threw away Guinness #6. I have NEVER felt this way before! I can hardly wait until I get Dr. Eskapa's book at the end of the week. I have decided not to drink the rest of the week, until I read the Sinclair Method and understand it.

I look forward to posting here. I feel welcome already!

                          Hi Bob, and welcome.

I hope the SM is your answer. We are all a bit new on it but those of us that are following the Sinclair Method have seen progress. It's a long process (4 months at least) but I am very hopeful it is the answer.

Please go to the site below to view others' weekly updates. I think this is very important especially during you're first few weeks because the initial lack of craving you get the first week, normally goes away the second. Please don't get discouraged by this - it is normal and you need to keep taking the Nal one hour before you drink, whenever you drink, and don't take it if you are not drinking. MWO is a wonderful source of information, and TSM site is an add-on for more indepth information about the Sinclair Method.

Potato, you have any alcohol free days yet???
I have many alcohol fee days but they are not because I try. It is just the pattern of drinking I have had for a long time. I still struggle very much on the days I do drink because when I do feel like drinking it is usually to the point of complete "wastedness". It is just that since starting to take nal one hour before any drinking things are much better. Usually better in a big way. Not so many horrible hangovers and consequences. Best to you and all.

                                Hi happy4once
! I am registered on thesinclairmethod.org although I have not yet posted.

Interesting day. I had a particularly stressful day, as usual. Took 50mg of Naltrexone at 2:15PM. After leaving work at 3:30PM, I had planned to drink one Guinness to reinforce the "no buzz" experience. I sure did not want to have that beer, which was highly unusual for me. At 4PM I drank the beer and as expected, no buzz, but I did feel quite relaxed afterward. Also, I had no desire to have another one! Unbelievable for me! I am so looking forward to the book. This process seems to be working too fast, but I suspect, as someone already has alluded to, the progress will stall at some point before the extinction process continues.
