    Strictly Sinclair: Naltrexone Done Right

In the past I treated myself nine days with the nal, and I would not drink. Around the ninth day I wanted a drink and I would drink as usual. SO then I would stop the Nal because I thought it was bad for my liver and I did not want to do both at the same time. As I said, now with the education of the Sinclair Method I have a better understanding of the method he proposes.

I think what Ocean was saying is that she had tried Nal, using it in a different format prior to learning about the SM.
That is correct Waiting, me too!:happyheart:

Hi About Time - are you following the Sinclair Method (drinking 1 hour after taking Naltrexone)? If so, the best place to go is to the new Sinclair Method forum:

          thesinclairmethod.com • Index page

RV9 from this site, along with SpringerRider, Marbella & Lena started the Sinclair method forum so there was more room to write about progress & questions specific to that method. Please feel free, of course, to post to either site. This is the most active thread on MWO for the Sinclair Method and many users that follow the Sinclair method will post answers/encouragement here as well as on the othe site.

Topamax was a disaster for me as well but I have had good luck with the Nal (no depression or anger and a definite decrease in my cravings).

Good luck with your first day. The first week can be rough but hang in there, it gets better. The first few days, be sure to cut the pill in half (25mg) and try to take it after you eat...that seems to help.

          Best of Luck to you.

Since, Im a self-made alcoholic, there is no one to blame except myself. I accept that; and I accept I think I have the cure (SM).

My drinking has gotten worse in recent days beginning this week 3. I cant even remember last night. I have no idea how many units I had. It's complicated to calculate because I am taking prescribed Valium and Buspar, which are both depressants.

The alcohol buzz is definitely gone. The only thing I look forward to in the afternoon/evening is the feeling of nothingness before I pass out or go to sleep. I hope this crazy train of drinking starts to slow down in a few weeks, otherwise I could wind up dead.

Nancy, I remember it was you (I think) who expressed some concern with naltrexone and pain meds in an emergency. I've been out ill and only back on my laptop the past few days. Fortunately I had a few days to clear the naltrexone (and alcohol) before I needed surgery. But I did have an uncomfortable experience post-hospital when I tried to substitute an otc pain med one day so I could take a nal and have a glass of wine. Without going into detail, I had an uncomfortable day. The nal information insert warns against nal precipitating withdrawal in opioid addicts. That was not me (i.e. an opioid addict). And blocking of the pain relief was not the problem I experienced. I have posted a question to Dr. Eskapa about this on thesinclairmethod.com and will let all here know what he says.

I'm feeling fine now but will need another surgery soon so I am holding off the naltrexone until I recover again. Not the end of the world, but still a shame. Nearly through Week 8 when I had to stop, I was noticing my first quantup leap in drinking reduction. Craving had been going down fairly steadily. I started at about the same time as Springer Rider. My drinking remains low (maybe 2/day) and I hope I won't have to start back at square one when I am able to resume. But trust me, I will resume. I got a glimpse of success for myself, and others are starting to see success as well.

                      Take care all, Lena

I am faithfully taking Naltexone 1 hour prior to drinking. The buzz is definitely gone, but the depressant affect of alcohol is still there after several drinks. I have been drinking 5 to 8 units per day, with some feelings starting about whether I even want to start drinking at all (a surprise to me). Tomorrow is a convenient day to not drink so I'll plan not to have Naltrexone or alcohol tomorrow.

We will see how it goes.

I'm going to wait one more week before my Nal/abstinence vacation. It works out better with my schedule. It definitely is getting harder to drink and I am actually pleasantly surprised. I was not expecting any significant effect at all.

                              Thanks!

Dear Happy4once -I am doing Sinclair using the book. Not much effect a week out, but hanging in there. I do seem to be able to "leave" my drink for longer than before. Still want it but I can get distracted without having in my hand. I'm not the most computer savvy person and I thought the newest posts would be the first to show up when I went to this thread. I'm not even sure right now that I am using this correctly. I'm new to the thread world. This is a great site. Best to all Sinclairians ? I thought we might need a name! Suggestions welcome - About Time:new:

I've decided to do the TSM and I've order my meds online. I've read the book and I'm going to check out the sinclair website to.

I'm so hoping this is the answer for me. I've tried everything Rehab, AA, therapy, cold turkey, just like everyone here.

I just hope they come soon. It looks like it will take until 4/16 to get here.
