You sound great...besides athe rain (bear wiht the typing) so, did you go to your dr. and just say you needed a script fo r topa for drinking?? I just dont think I con do that? River seems good however, I do want my dr to know that I am taking this stuff.It has been a godsend for me so fat..or would tha be far...I have lost 5 pounds to date.

Is your topa shipped from India and labeled "topamac?" Just wondering...can you tell I over-analyze EVERYTHING? I drive myself crazy! Now I have been thinking all day, what if the topa from river is not working and the real reason I lost weight is b/c I stopped taking the real topa from the american pharmacy and not b/c of the prozac, etc....

I was running low so I just had to place another order from river. I hadn't heard back from my psychiatrist so I just spent almost $300.00. I'm hoping to be able to get all of my topa from my local CVS soon but I first have to get on the same page as my psychiatrist. He still thinks I'm on only 50mg. I'm all the way up to 200. I tried to call him last week to get a new script but haven't heard back from him.

The only side effect I am feeling with the 200 is the weird taste with soda. Seriously that's it.

My internet was down for a week what a bummer !

MDHW... How are you doing? Are you up to 100 mg yet ?

DMB if it is only the typing it is not that bad...it will probably get better in time.

I got my topa by going to a doctor and lying (yes i know, bad girl)(i should say here in my defense that i say the truth to MY doctor who refuse to prescribe it to me)that i suffer from
migraine so she prescribe me topa to titrate 25 mg every week untill i reach 100 mg and then stay for 2 month and then go back...but now i feel that i should up the dose as my craving are starting to come back and my drinking is up :-(

My doctor would NOT prescribe Topomax - tried to refer me to an AA program (NOT what I want!) It seems you order on line, so I guess I can too. How do you know how much to take? and are you also taking other supplements (I am currently taking 19 pills a day!)
In the book one of the side effects mentioned is mental confusion when taking Topo ... anyone experienced that? I am scared but ANYTHING that helps w/the cravings would be a plus.

i'm with you with the AA program...i'm more of a do it myself kinda girl!
yeah ! i,ve got the same response from MY doctor but that didn't stop me to see another one(see my post below)and if still no luck with that, River online pharmacy seen like a good source.Make sure that you are checking the interaction of your pill and the TOPA to be on the safe side...Also you may or may not experience mental confusion but it will go away with time...mine is almost completely gone!

Hi Dandy and all -

I just wanted to pop in and see how everyone was doing. I'm actually a Topa drop out, but it was because of side effects most don't mind - but it was REALLY working for me as far as drinking much less. So for those that can handle a few side effects, it has a lot of promise in my mind.

Dandy, get the book to read about dosages. And more importantly, how to move up in dosage. I also ordered online from River and followed to book to the "t".

I also had the "fuzzy brain" thing END pretty quickly. After the first week I can't say I had ANY side effects, except no appetite. I was taking all of my vitamins (DON'T FORGET the good nutrition part too) but I simply forgot about real food.

The MWO program is amazing but read the book and pay attention to the details of all the other things you need to be doing - I really believe it works for many. Wish I could be with you but I had to go to Plan B after losing almost 25 pounds I could not afford to lose.

And Shantao - good advice and checking other med interactions FIRST.

Hey Everyone!

I have been a a little slack in replying lately. I can't remember who asked what but here goes with replies! I am up to 100mg now and have done well. I start 125mg in a couple days. Appetite is a little strange. Not that hungry and kinda crave food I normally wouldn't eat. Not drinking. Only a glass of wine here and there over the past 6 weeks. No cravings. I did obtain my rx from local doc but insurance did not cover for Topa. Paid out of pocket then have tried a few online pharmacies hoping to avoid future out of pocket expenses that are so costly. DO not use aclepsa.com or the canadian.com (or names associated like...mycanadianpharmacy.com et....)....all these came from India taped to a piece of paper inside of a hand addressed envelope and were pink. ?? I then ordered from medsmex.com. These came from Mexico in properly labeled and sealed bottles. They accepted several forms of payment online, where as, some of the other online sites were very limited in the forms of payment they received.
I am still taking my MWO supplements. I think this helps me alot. Exercising 5-6 days a week. Making sure I am getting plenty of sleep too. Also, backing off things in my life (things that I can) that add stress. Trying to laugh more.

Hi, I really enjoyed your post about topa, I am just about to start it, I feel I have exhausted everything else, I have been scared of taking it because I don't want the dopey head, as I teach cooking and run my home. Also, in Australia, I haven't been able to find a doctor who will prescribe it, so I got it from the river pharmacy. My doctor who has been great and is an addiction specialist, prefers baclofen and campral and naltrexone together. I can't take the naltrexone, makes me exhausted, campral on it's own isn't enough and baclofen while good, relaxes your muscles and has the wonderful side effect of a very week bladder. Hope you are going well. I look forward to reading your posts and see how you are going. Good luck.

MDHW, do you not CARE to drink on topa or your trying not to? you said a glass of wine here andthere. how do u feel it helps you to not want another one? just curious. i stopped it due to the side effect of depression so i never got past 50mg.. plan on tryin it again though and seeing if the depression goes away

Hey Aussie and Me1455,

I wanted to cut back on drinking/needed to cut back, and the MWO supplements combined with the Topa allowed me to really cut back the cravings. I feel they did anyway. Researched alot before trying the program.I think withdrawal symptoms were really limited also. I was already on anti-depressants so I have not experienced any of the depression that some have expressed with Topa. I have had a little of the fogginess but not anything extreme. I started the MWO supps prior to Topa though. I have a pretty good exercise routine also. I drink anywhere from 3 to 4 glasses of wine in a 7 day period, which is huge for me! I used to drink bottles of wine per night. Part of my success so far is that I had just had enough and just plain wanted to live better. Good luck to you both. MDHW

sorry,i didn't post in a while but had a busy schedule lately.

so i am still on 100mg (cannot go higher as my doctor prescribe me 100mg max) and as i had predicted my craving are returning...had 4 glass of wine yesterday and WANTED MORE :-( ...wake up this morning WANTING TO DRINK

not sure where to go from here...or i go back to the same doc and tell her i need higher dosage...or i find another doc to prescribe more...i'll think about it....

Hi Topa People. This thread has helped me a lot. I am experiencing a lot of the side effects mentioned. I am not sure that I want to continue to tolerate them. I have been on the topa for 3 weeks. I am on 50 mgs.
I think the worst is the feeling of indiference, almost depression. I have a tendency towards deperession and don't want to go down that road.
Do the symptoms dissipate with time? I was also wondering if it is ok to take the med only at night time. I would SO appreciate any feedback!
