I am registered as Skip 321 but I can't log in and I don't feel like registering again. That being said, I finally got to see a doctor (it is next to impossible to get an appointment here in Quebec) and I asked if I could get a prescription for Campral. I have done a lot of research and I am afraid of the side effects of Topamax so I decided Campral would be better for me. My doctor had never heard of Campral so I spoke to a pharmacist and she had never heard of it either. I guess it is not available in Canada. I am not too keen on ordering drugs over the internet so I am kind of stuck. How bad are the side effects of topamax? I run a business and I deal with clients and employees. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Here's another medication to keep your eye on (not yet approved in Canada or the US). It's called Acomplia, or rimonabant, and is manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis. It's available in Europe, including UK. I posted something about this earlier for our UK members, but it's on the old board.

Acomplia has been shown to block the craving for alcohol, nicotine and other drugs. Addiction specialists are very interested in this medication.

Here's an article from MSNBC about what some are calling "The Miracle Pill." This one announced its availability in the UK and defines prescription parameters.

Not endorsing its use for alcohol treatment, just keeping you posted, as we're following the research closely on this one.
