      baclofen

Just a quick update on my Baclofen experience....

I ended up going to a private doctor to talk to him (very honestly) about my drinking history and the book and articles I have seen written by Dr Oliver Ameisen and his findings about Baclofen.

The doctor was happy to prescribe me a month's Baclofen - enough to tirate up to 130mg per day to see how that had an affect on my drinking.

I was getting quite desperate before this...frequently up to 2+ 750ml bottles of strong wine a day (sometimes drinking during the day).

I am now on 90mg a day and alcohol has lost it's 'pulling power' on me.

My alcohol intake has halved and I don't have those awful 'drinking thoughts' all day long.
I am relaxed (Baclofen is a muscle relaxant and is also prescribed for anxiety). I am going through some worrying financial problems at the moment and I am incredibly busy. Normally I would be drinking loads given my current situation...but I am not, my intake is getting lower by the day.

Will keep you all updated as my dose increases....it is looking (and feeling) very positive.

Hi Greg, gosh - I'm truly flabbergasted, but the fact that you write so extremely well and intelligently tells me that you have a huge chance of complete recovery. In my humble opinion.

                Bill,

Thank you for your post. I am going to see if my doctor would consider this approach.

I, too, am a desperate alcoholic.

                  baclofen

I am so HAPPY to see this thread. I have been SHOUTING the praises of Baclofen on this site for a long time now and I am so glad that others are experiencing they great results that I did from it. I never had to get over 30mgs a day(it took the cravings away ASAP) and now that I have so many months of AF time behind me I don't take ANY MEDS at all (I will ALWAYS have it near by). I know for me that once a pickle, never will I be a cucumber again. If I ever get into a place where there is a chance that I may drink............in goes the baclofen........out goes the craving. That how it works for me. I hope that anyone who is really trying to quit drinking and still struggling will consider the advantages that this medication has to offer. It has been a GOD SENT to me and so many others. Thank you for the wonderful thread !!!

                    baclofen

                    Evie Lou,

I had tried 30 mg in the past and it didn't help. I think for some of us the higher dosage is required but I refused to try it without the advice of a physician.

I currently have sent an e-mail to my psychiatrist about Baclofen.

You took Naltrexone with it, didn't you?

Do you think the combo is what worked or just the Baclofen?

Sigh, I sure hope I can give this one a try. Baclofen is a treatment for my cluster headaches, too, so it would be a win/win if it works.

Thank you, as always, for sharing, Evie. Your success helps keep me going.

                    Love,

                      baclofen

Cind, I have taken Bac with Topa, Nal and alone. It has worked in each case.
I do realize that everyone is different and that the amount and variety of meds will vary but I STRONGLY believe that alcoholism is a medical condition that can be treated with medicine.
In time I am sure that everyone will see it that way.

Does anyone know if any of the meds are cheaper than Topamax? When I took Topa briefly, it was $60 for a one-month supply, so that is partially why I stopped taking it (that was even with insurance; there was no generic). I would consider going on something else less expensive. Yeah I know, it's all cheaper than AL....

                              baclofen

                              Dear Sir,

I am deeply affected by this post and it is my deepest intent to "have what your having".

I followed the TOPA program with such zest and optomisim to no avail.
It is more recent , this last year actually that I have dwelled in the darkest dispairs of depression/anxiety and have imagined a way out of this plane.
I feel some hope at this medicine. I missed from our Evie Lou that this medicine assisted her as well. That even inspires more.
Oh, how many more can be given some relief from this nightmare.
I wondered what the other online pharmacy was, for I spent on the TOPA as it sits in a drawer.
If this is private, could you PM me with this information.

I am hardly able to work, create and truley experience my life on all levels.
I am a walking comatose of a shell with hints of life when I come here and feel apart of this gathering of angels.
I am living as a reclusive with difficulty to know what I need to do more than rise daily and enter into this place to be reached as I reach.
I appreciate you taking the time and detail as you have.

Wonderful, so purely wonderful as each post is so sacred I can hardly express the effect being able to belong here has.
