Hi there welcome!
I too just started Nal, week 2. I didn't have any side effects, maybe fatigue. I have felt a little dizzy'ish at some points as well. A friend felt terribly ill when she took it, did the same as everyone else suggested, 1/2 the 25mg.
It has decreased my consumption but they say that happens this soon. I have been reading about Baclofen, but am frightened of things I've heard.
Good luck in your journey!AF July 6 2014

Day 2 evening
Did as M suggested, took half of 25 mg. at 4PM. It is definitely a powerful drug & very glad I did not take 25.
Cravings - no. Feel something after 3 gl wine - yes, but not up. Feel drunk but not really drunk. No desire for more. Ready for bed. Perhaps this is what normal people feel.
But unless I adjust to the change in brain chemistry fast, I will not be able to sustain. I will never go back to being the zombie that I was on topa, even if it did help the craving.
Perhaps low dose ok. Makes me very calm, BUT if it affects my ability to perform or think ...nope
So far so good.

Hi chrysa,
Hope you don't mind me butting in...
It can take as long as 4 weeks, depending on how you react, for the fatigue to go away...some people get over it sooner. I honestly haven't felt any side effects since I think around week 3 or 4...can't remember now but it went by fast (I just finished Week 13 tonight).
Also, I'm glad you are posting at MWO - this will really help many people...you can also check out the sinclair method site to look at others progress threads (look under weekly progress). That may be helpful for you - you can see what others have gone through during the initial weeks and what is to come. Many of us are at the 3-4 month mark at this point (thesinclairmethod.com • Index page
Another thing I wanted to mention is I think I just read elsewhere that there was no buzz on nal. I don't know that that is true for everyone - I still love my wine...it still relaxes me and I thoroughly enjoy it, I just don't drink as much of it. Maybe I am just used to not having the initial rush like I used to but I don't remember it at this point and I don't consciously register that there is not a buzz. The buzz is definitely different the first few weeks though, that I remember...and I remember thinking 'wow, this must be how normal people feel when they drink...'

Day 3: 4PM took the nal; felt extremely sleepy; coudl hardly drink 2 wine spritzers early in the evening. That is when I coudl have stopped & didn't. Then I just woke up and drank a whole liter of wine with fruit. Feel terrible today. My lesson: you can override the effects of nal if you really want to. I must continue to be mindful of why I am taking this drug & when the craving is gone, do not push through it. The mind has to have a part.
Feel depressed today, but I will continue the experiment tonight. Oh, it does affect my thinking. I do not feel as sharp, but I am not a zombie like on topa. I hated that drug.

I am having a similar experience Chrysa. I had no desire to drink on the Topa, but I just couldn't handle the stuff. The initial drinking on Nal is the same too, I could stop early, but I am afraid to for some reason- and if I drink enough, I get good and drunk even with the Nal.
I am only in week two, but I am going to have to apply some dicipline here and try to cut down on the amount of drinking. My understanding of TSM is that you have to drink for it to work, but you don't have to drink as much as you used to- especially as in my case where that is a dangerous amount to be drinking.

Hi again - I was on Topa as well last year...it was awful, which is why I looked for something else and found out about Nal here.
Nal did make me spacey the first few weeks, but it goes away. It has not caused depresssion in anyone at TSM site ( that was why I gave up Topa).
Sounds like you are both doing great - Pete, the only rule you have to follow is to make sure you drink 1/2 hour to an hour after you take the Nal. If you can stop yourself from overdrinking, that's great. If not, it will come in time.
I'm happy with my progress - not done yet, but life is much better. It can be a roller coaster as you go through it - there are spikes along the way, but no one has gone back to pre-sinclair levels consistently that I have seen. You may have a week or two where you spike back up, but then you go down...it's kind of a long process, so get ready to be very patient. Again, I'm so happy you guys are doing this at MWO. It's one of the safer medications to use (non-addictive, gets out of your system fast, no SEs after you adjust to it)...and very effective if you stick with it.

I am feeling fantastic otherwise. I am feeling so hopeful and haven't felt this way for some time.
TSM is the only think that seems to be able to work for me. I tried Topa, didn't seem to work, willpower doesn't seem to work very well.....but the Nal is a godsend!AF July 6 2014
