i posted how i felt baflocen gave me the off switch, but last night i finished my normal bottle of wine. unsure if i would have drank more if i had it. im only on 50mg and have felt it did give me a bit of an off switch so far. but its to early to tell. i know i also was depressed about my boyfriend, ex boyfriend now and i knew stopping would have made me more depressed so finished it and went to bed. do you all feel that too? that when you stop you kinda start to feel depressed after you just drank?

Me,
I'm not sure. Whenever ive drank, im pretty wasted thereafter and just pass out. Ive noticed that ive been getting more drunk when i drink. Im still at 60mg. On Thursday and Friday I drank alot (more than 2 bottles of wine), and drank again on Saturday, tho not as much. I was on 60 all those days. Then I was AF on Sunday and am AF today (Monday), and i didnt have much craving either Sunday or today (its around 8pm here now). Maybe its the bac, maybe not, because after going overboard I generally dont feel like drinking for the next couple of days. Time will tell. I will stay on 60 tomorrow and then go up to 75.
But ME, 50mg is still, as you note, a pretty low dose, so just keep titrating up.

I'm at 80mg/ 20 QID today ( 3.5 weeks) I agree with Zen that I think at some point we have to cut out the alcohol to get the maximum effects. Many that have reached their "switch" have posted that it is not a magic pill. They have said that they may still have lingering thoughts about alcohol but they are now equipped to make better judgements. There is nothing out there that will make us never drink again. Baclofen is a meant to aid us in not having the overwhelming desire to get drunk.
Up to this point I have been drinking. Even though I did not feel like I had to I was just not trying hard enough. My last drink was Sunday and I'm giving baclofen a chance this week to see if it really works. I'm reaching what should be close to the "switch" and I want to give this 100%. Besides I have too much money on these little pills to not see what will happen
I hope this did not come off as preachy, because that is not what I'm trying to do.
Has anyone heard from Louise? Is she still in her vacation?

i agree zen, when i gave effort into limiting my drinking or being af the pst two weeks , i really felt the baclofen working better. i feel my cravings are more pyschological so to speak. just used to drinking. etc. so i am gonna attempt to say im "only gonna drink this much" if i drink. 60mg today.
thanks zman, i know what u mean two, after a bender u dont have to much of a craving to drink. when you drank those two bottles of wine, was it an all day thing or just at night? and if ya dont feel depression the next day after a bender, your really lucky and not prone to it. many get depressed after drinking alot i think.

Shelby,
Based on some of the success stories ive heard about, including Amiesen himself, bac is, ideally, not merely an "aid" to not drinking. It is supposed to make you feel indifferent to drinking. You can take it or leave it and not give a damn. Thats the way one is supposed to feel when having reached the switch off dose.
Dont get me wrong, even if it is just an aid, that would be great. But its supposed to be more than that.
But im hearing more and more on the forum that Bac "isnt a silver bullet" and "is not a magic cure". But that is not what Amiesen, and others such as Bill P actually say (i.e., in fact it IS a silver bullet). I wonder whether some of us who are expressing feelings stating that it is merely an aid are simply not titrating high enough, or whether Bac really isnt all that it is cracked up to be.
Again, dont get me wrong, a powerful "aid" to curb cravings is nothing to scoff at. But there is, at least to me, a big difference between cravings being "curbed" and cravings being completely exstinguished.

I agree with you Zman. I WANT a silver bullet. And Amiesen says nothing less than that.
But I am on a very low dose now, and I am feeling some definitely positive effects. My hope is that as I titrate up, I will reach that "indifference" level. If not, I feel certain that it will be a huge aid.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

I think it is and isn't a silver bullet. It does make you indifferent. I reached my switch very, very quickly at a very low dose. I went to a dinner party on Friday night and not only was I indifferent to drinking, I was actually turned off by the thought of drinking.
It is not a magic bullet in that we still have the habit of behaving in a certain fashion. I had my bad reaction to bac, because I wanted to test the drug. I had reached my optimun dose and drank purely out of habit.

Hi, been busy with wife coming over and my profession
My view is simple on this.
There is an old saying by Henry Ford and I think it applies here.
?Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right.?
I believe in the power of the mind and the will of men. Archimedes also said "give me a lever long enough and a prop strong enough and I can singlehandedly move the world"
Well I believe baclofen is the lever that is long enough, the will of you to succeed in your heart and soul is the prop that must be strong enough. But you have the tools and for me, it was easier to think that I could move the world before I could quit my alcohol addiction. But I did move the world and quit drinking and bringing my wife from Australia as a result rather than divorce and thoughts of suicide from the desparate hopelessness I once had.
So if you believe you can, you are probably right. Baclofen makes it easy, but you have to harden the prop in your mind for the lever to work to lift this terrible affliction from you.
Its wonderful to see some of the success people have been having and I encourage all of you to have patience and resolve. It will work for you if you work it.
I'll be back after my wife arrives to see how you all have progressed.

I'm not saying it's merely an aid. But, if I recall from the book, Amiesen was using all of his other resourses (he had been in rehab several times, plus many other counseling sessions). He did not just wake up from a drunken stuper and just decide to take Baclofen. He also did many hours of research and did many trial and errors. He did not wake up one morining and he was cured. You have to put some effort into your own recovery.
With that said, I hope it can be someone's "silver bullet". I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade. I still have hope that Bacolfen can cure me and that I have not reached my "switch" yet. Only time will tell!

There is a member of this forum who PMed me awhile back asking me if I would "book Mark" their study site. I could find it on my goggle search. Shewanted me to help her and others keep it at the TOP of the list ??? She then went on to tell me she had just finished an interview with a NATIONAL magazine about this.
I went to goggle and indeed her study with her name on it was the second one down.
I wrote her back saying that i had no idea HOW to use a "book mark" but that i looked forward to reading the article.
This felt to me like a person who was out for personal FAME and gaining it by using unsuspecting innocent people. I don't know how else to interpret her actions, do you ???
