I'm new, on meds

Hello to everyone. Day 8 for me, no booze. I first heard of Dr. A's book from my book lover's page a day calendar. It was a Christmas gift I bought myself last year, then misplaced/forgot about it until February, typical of my sloppy drunken housekeeping of late... Anyway, when I saw his book featured I started researching online and found so much good info, also ordered the book and some pills, I am desperate to stop this vicious cycle.

Once I got the pills I started out at 25mg / day and quickly went up to 100mg, then picked a day to stop drinking 5 days after starting baclofen. I've noticed the difference this time from the 1000 other times I've tried to stop -- no urges, no "beast" screaming for booze, it's like he's bound and gagged in a dark closet for the time being, yay!

Couple of questions I have after reading through many posts here: I've seen a Dr. Levin mentioned, can anyone call him, is there somewhere I can find a number so that I can get a prescription? And would that be the way to go or should I continue to get the pills from online foreign sites? Side effects: any thoughts on the quick increase in dosage I went through, I did this because I only have 120 pills and wanted to stop drinking quickly, and not sure I could get more supply.

Hi Cee, and welcome.

You'll definitely need more pills than that, a lot, lot more, so I would reorder immediately. Try Dr L and see what he has to say about the whole affair. Nothing wrong with going up quickly if the SE's permit, from about 100mg's a day though you want to stay at the same level for a few days to start giving the baclofen time to do it's work in your brain.

Thanks, I think I'm OK at 100, I get a bit sleepy so will stay at 100 for a few days until I hear back from Dr. L (left msg). One of the very pleasant side effects is that I am not b****y like before when I'd quit for a few days...I didn't even want to be around me. Probably too early to start diagnosing myself for personality disorder, but I am notoriously cranky and not at all since starting this regimen.

The doctor called me, and explained a lot about the protocol, etc. I didn't tell him I'd already started, I figured I would go ahead with trying Walgreen's to get that going. I did have to back off of the higher dosage, back to about 60 because I just could not stay awake intermittently throughout my day. And, as last night was Friday night, and usually Friday night means a huge drunk, I had a bit of a low mood and thoughts about going for wine, so guessing I'm not going to be indifferent to alcohol just yet.... But I made it through the night, going to bed at 9:30, and slept well.

I tried to order from 4rx yesterday and because they only take Visa, used my CU card, the bank refused the order because they have a no international orders policy. Does anyone have a recommendation for another online pharmacy that takes MC? Also, I want to contact Walgreens, but am a little fuzzy on what Dr. L told me to say to them. I want to set all of this up over the phone - no Walgreen's within 90 miles - can't remember which number he told me to give the Walgreen's pharmacy first, office or cell? TIA to all, hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend.

Good job on sticking to the plan last night. It'll make the baclofen easier to take, I suspect.

I don't know much about the online pharmacies. I'll leave that to someone else.

What I DO know is that Dr. L only prefers Walgreens, 'cause it's easy. You can use any pharmacy. I have that directly from the horse's (er, dr.'s) mouth. I use Rite Aid and Walmart and Harris Teeter, so no worries about that, okay?

Simply ask the pharmacy to call Dr. L and get the prescription. It's not their usual thing, but I've never had anyone say no. (Once someone didn't want to call because it was long distance (? that still exists?) and he was having a bad day, and I was being less than my sunny self...)

So any pharmacy, and just ask 'em to call.

(also, you can tell Dr. L that you've started already. I suspect he's fairly used to it. VERY used to it, actually, since we've all done it. :H I'll leave it to you, though. No biggie.)

Yeah, I will tell him about already starting out, supposed to talk again mid-month. I registered online at Walgreen's site so will try that route first, thanks!

On another note, my 14 y.o. granddaughter is visiting next week, and it will be great visiting her without having to hide my drinking - nothing like a judgmental teenager
