Is Baclofen a prescription drug or OTC?

              Baclofen Information from Drugs.com

I know this may sound like a 'crazy' question, but in the article it say not to drink while taking the med baclofen, why are people drinking while taking it?

If you read the book (The End of My Addiction, or in paperback, Heal Thyself), Dr. Ameisen describes how he tried to stop drinking and was greatly improved with baclofen, but kept drinking, until he hit his switch-off point.

I think (and I might be wrong) that most people taking baclofen seriously, in high doses and determined to conquer their drinking addiction once and for all, are aiming at an AF (alcohol free) life.

There are a few who have been using baclofen to moderate successfully.

Personally, I feel that if you are in such a bad place that you have come here (or somewhere else) in a desperate search to end your dependence on alcohol, you probably should be aiming at no drinking, not moderate drinking.

That said, many of us have not managed to stop altogether right away with baclofen. (Ideally, you should be AF before starting baclofen, but not all of us are ideal.)

So, that's the long answer to your short question.

Baclofen is OTC in some countries (like Spain & India), but prescription in the majority.

W.r.t. drinking & baclofen: I strongly believe its best to either try to stop (almost impossible for most, myself included) or at least taper your drinking when you start it. My "theory" is that drinking hampers the effect of bac in your system. After all, it is meant to rid you of AL. Why throw more poison at yourself while you're trying to get free of it?

By the time I started on bac, I think (as far as I can remember) I was drinking a bottle of wine a day (minimal compared to my usual consumption), and tapered it even further as I went along. Close to my switch, I was having one or two glasses over the course of an evening. The bac was of course helping, but I was also helping it along.

To help you taper, refer to the Toolbox Thread in Monthly Abstinence. It really works

From where do you know it is OTC in Spain? Are you using goldpharma to get your medicaments? I think they do provide prescriptions to the pharmacies though.

Two MWO members are from Spain and have bought their bac OTC. I'm not sure if its the same as in India, where you can buy OTC up to a certain amount, or as much as you like. I'll ask one of them.

I use 4RX (India) & Inhouse (Vanuatu). Even though its a prescription drug in South Africa, baclofen is not on any customs lists for them to look out for, so I haven't had problems without a prescription. My deliveries from Inhouse are via FedEx, so that's even easier.

The irony is that Liofen in India only costs around $.0.02 per 10mg tablet. I've considered moving there Somewhere along the line, we're getting fleeced. But rather that than drinking, I guess.

Thats good News! There is seriously no reason to put Baclofen on prescription, there is no risk of abuse here. If there is a risk then only short term.

                            Hey, craving

I've confirmed: there doesn't seem to be a limit to what you can buy at a time in Spain. My friend has been buying packets of 30 tabs - in both 10mg & 25mg.

my experience in the mediterran area close to spain is that no packets of more than 30 tabs exist. simply keep on making a pharmacy trip - one after the other, collecting one from each and always just 30 pills ...
