    Consolidated Baclofen Success Thread

    Yee-haw!!!

I've just had 6 months AF, thanks to bac

I'm still learning, though. Fine-tuning of maintenance dose & p.r.n doses etc.

Plus getting better insight into how I experienced (and still am) going from blackout drunk 7 days a week, tapering off AL, titrating up on bac and eventually going AF and re-learning to live. For example, what I thought was withdrawal from AL was actually anxiety at giving up my former best friend By the time I stopped drinking I was drinking so little it could never have been WDs

So here's to hope for all us! If you're still on your way there, don't give up!

That's why I posted here. Many fellow meds-heads do not seem to participate in the General Forum...

I want people to know its worthwhile sticking with bac, despite side-effects.

              Hi everyone.
Just read all your posts and feel so excited about this. Not only have I found this amazing site where I can feel supported and accepted, I have also found other options (baclofen) to help get me away from AL. I have tried so many times to stop, cut down, do anything really, but could not do it on my own. I dont feel alone now and I dont feel like some kind of outcast because of the shame I feel about my drinking. I have lost so much over the years but dont feel its too late to put it behind and start over without this terrible addiction pulling down everything I try to rebuild. Thanks for sharing your experiences!!

Welcome Santybury! It is never too late. I had been through rehab, campral, naltrexone and topamax. I was at the end. Baclofen and this site finally made it happen for me. My advice: tirate up very slowly. I increased by 10 mg every 5 days. The side-effects were not pleasant for me (I'm sensitive to meds), but it helps a great deal when you know what to expect and what is in the normal range. Check back in, we're rooting for you!

Ameisen took divided doses of 30 mg in the morning and afternoon and 60 mg at night. Is that a common thing to take a bigger dose at night? Is it because he did not want to wake up in the morning with cravings?

What is the quickest increase anyone has heard of to get to the switch point? My wife is drinking heavily at the moment and we just got a good supply from Turkish Cyprus to allow her to get to the switch point. She is taking about 60 a day now on a prescription from a doctor who won't go higher.

                      Help!!!

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". some people prefer equivalent doses, others prefer to take less at certain times.

I was increasing extremely fast - with my fastest increasing being 150mg (+75mg/day) in 2 days. Check my dosings in my signature.

Theoretically you can increase it very fast. I would not suggest it though. Best really is to increase it and then stay on the new dose for 2 days at least. You could increase by 20-30 mg every 2 days - that would be still slower than me - but the side effects might be less!!!!

for me Baclofen side effects felt like being drunk. So that is why I increased it this fast, as I could simply subsitute Alcohol with Baclofen and would not feel the difference.

hope this helps. all the best!!

I took 150 mgs the very first day. 250 mgs the second. I hung around there for a while and ran out quickly because the online pharm I used only shipped half my order. I didn't actually hit my switch till a month later when I got a new order.

But by the third day I had reduced my drinking from 10-17 or so units EVERY night to 2 1/2. Effectively a switch as it was the first time I'd fallen asleep stone cold sober in months. I just didn't want more.

When I finally hit my switch it was on the 3rd day of taking 300 mgs.

Well it's the second day of taking BAC for us and our doctor has us on such a low start that I fell asleep last night not because of the BAC but I think of the wine. I'm so anxious to move faster with this but if anything happened I'm afraid the doctor would pull back from us. He's on board with the high dosage of Bac and even gave us a prescription for over 200mg but it's his way or no way. I didn't have the guts to tell him I already ordered the BAC online so we haven't even filled his prescription yet, but so tempted to move along faster with this especially seeing my HB is going down at a scary pace with AL.

The definition of a "unit" of alcohol varies widely across the globe. As explained here Standard drink - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, it's anywhere from 6 grams of ethanol in Austria to nearly 20 in Japan. I see from your graph that you're using US units which is 14 grams. Many people on their way out are from the UK where a unit is less than 8 grams. It would also be good to know how much you weigh. Thanks.
