Campral and GI issues and also effectivness

    Hi,

Thank you so much for all your great input, I really value this site! I started on Campral about 2 weeks ago. Ever since I started (sorry for the graphic) but I have alot of intestinal gas, have to go #2 alot and the stools are tarry and narrow (Again I apologize!). I was on campral 2 years ago and the same thing happened so I know it's not coincidence.

    Here's my questions:
    1) Has anyone had this problem and did it go away? I only stayed with Campral about 12 days last time partly due to this issue

    2) The last time I used it... it worked beautifully until I "tested it" and drank. It's like after that it lost it's magic. With this time, have drank about 4 times in past 2 weeks and dont' really feel a reduction in urge (although mine is mostly mental I am sure)...anyway...should I "stick with it" for a month to see if it kicks in or because I am still drinking it's not going to work? I know your are technically not supposed to drink on Campral..but it says if you do, to still keep taking it. It's sort of "Chicken or Egg" in that I am hoping the craving will go away so I can stop, not the other way around.

Any info would be greatly appreciated! I need another "feel good" outlet as I know this is damaging my body and I hate that I still crave that darn wine!

Campral and GI issues and also effectivness

    Hi Colery:
The good news is that, yes, I had these same intestinal symptoms, so apparently they are "normal" side-effects. The bad news (for ME, necessarily for you) is that Campral made me extremely lethargic and depressed. I found myself googling Campral and suicide, so I took it only long enough to get about 10 days of sobriety and all the withdrawals were gone. So that's the time-limit of my use of Campral, so I can't say what might happen if you keep with it. I do know that I found it easy to "overdrink" the Campral without any noticeable side-effects; well, unless you call getting drunk a side effect!!
But back to the GI issue - it's been over a month since I stopped the Campral and I still have exactly the same bowel effects. Now that's weird!
I used the Campral to end my first (and only, I pray) relapse, and I did stop drinking while I was on it. But I couldn't swear that it was the Campral that had anything to do with that or just that I was so miserable and knew I couldn't keep on.
Good luck getting back on track . . . in some ways it's being harder for me now than it was the first time, three years ago.

"NOT" necessarily for you, is, of course, what I meant!
