    Amusing side-effects of Baclofen

I have posted elsewhere how grateful I am to have been guided by all you bac'sters and Dr. Ameison . . . I could tell ONE HOUR after I took my first 10 mg dose that I was finished with drinking more and more, and, indeed, I am now on day five and I've not had more than two glasses of wine per night (immediate decrease from 1 1/2 bottles plus per day/night), and only one glass last night and tonight.

But I have had some amusing side effects. The first day I took 10/10/10, drank two glasses of wine at night, and took my regular (minimal) dose of seroquel before I went to bed. Hit the pillow like a rock, then woke up because I needed to go to the bathroom. I actually (thanks to the seroquel) rarely wake up at night, but, okay, I was awake and I needed to pee. So I got of out bed, walked into my bedroom closet, and fortunately, kept bumping into things (I keep my vac in the closet) until I woke up enough to figure out I was headed in the wrong direction. Made it to the bathroom, everything okay, but I was giggling.

Next day, with the same dosage, I did some work on my computer while laying on the couch, then closed the computer and closed my eyes for a little nap. While I was asleep, I clearly heard my mother and sister talking to each other while they were cleaning my bathroom floor (sounds of scrubbing, water splashing, chatting . . . ).

Right. My mother lives four hours away from me, and the idea of my sister cleaning my bathroom, well . . . even in my "sleep," I knew that wasn't ever a remote possibility! So I'm grateful to those of you who have described your weird sleep experiences so I didn't have to freak out.

Other than that, I've had very few side effects and immediate relief from the powerful cravings that were increasing daily and plummeting me back into a place I thought I had left forever.

A long-time friend told me today he thought I was more "perceptive" than normal (he's never seen me drinking, so it wasn't that kind of comparison). Maybe the relaxation from the Bac? Baclofen makes me feel a little "wired," but - hey, I used to take street-drugs to get that feeling! I can manage!

I'm also noticing a flow of more intense and fluid emotions. It feels good to cry when I'm sad AND glad and to feel the richness of life so fully.

I'm so grateful to have found this site, the information about baclofen and Dr. Amieson's book, and for the courage of all who have joined in and shared their experience. :h

I nearly read that as " a flow of more intense & fluid MOTIONS" & had to do a double take!!
Had a giggle at that too!:H:H

Hey Zen - as my mind played with things a bit further, I wondered how exactly one could get more intense motions? Does one go into a trance of sorts? Hmm,good thing I'm not on LSD currently.

I can relate to the "fluid" part of your experience.

I pee so much more these days...

        Good luck to you

          Red,

I am glad you are doing so well with Baclofen and able to laugh off the side effects. Great attitude!!

            Baclofen Help Please

Could anyone suggest how I could go about finding a Dr. that would prescribe Baclofen. I can't order it online. I have to go through a doctor, but don't know how to find one? Any suggestions?

                Another one . . .

I'm not sure why I find these so humorous, but, amusing side effect number three came last night with one of the most improbable, on-going dreams I could possibly imagine - at least for myself.

Just to provide the backdrop, I am pretty low-maintenance, at least when it comes to appearance, etc. I almost never wear makeup. I make sure to trim my hair at least twice a year, whether it needs it or not; shaving underarms and legs is more seasonal than essential. Clean and well-kempt, but in a really simple way.

So last night, on my 6th night of baclofen, I had a dream - broken into several segments by me waking up and thinking, WTF . . . then going back to sleep and going right back into the same scenario.

And the scenario? Me and Hugh Hefner and "The Girls Next Door!" :bust:

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I've ever even seen this show, but it was definitely Hugh and Kendra and me, joined off and on by the other two "playgirls" on the show, as well as some I've never seen before. ALL night long.

I think some of my youthful experiments with mind-altering drugs are proving quite useful in dealing with these weird side effects from the bac! And they beat drinking and struggling with drinking and being hung over all to hell.

                Can't wait to see what's next!!!:H

I'm actually really unnerved by these side effects. I'm alone with my kids who are 3 and 5 some of the time as I try to titrate up. Not being able to feel my face is scaring the s#@t outa me. I got up, slowly, to 30, but am back down to 10 (2 x 5). I'm normally very tolerant to meds. Am I the only person who is scared of their side effects?

I'm no doctor but I stayed in a Holiday Inn once... in middle school... lol .. BUT don't let the side effects scare you... They won't kill you, they may scare you but if you ride them out you'll find they begin to fade later on.

I still get electrical shock type feelings in my hands .. in fact it's doing it now but I'm more than willing to take the trade off.

Don't be scared just slowly stay the course... even if it takes you a year to get up to your switch.. what's that in the grand scheme of alcoholic self destruction.

So sorry the side-effects feel scary for you, TBH.

Have you read Dr. Amieson's book? It was very empowering for me to understand the extent of his research and self-testing and his postition that bac is a very safe drug. Please keep reading ALL the side-effects that get posted on the forum and keep posting with your questions and concerns. I agree with Panda completely - take your time, you CAN find your own way.

Yes, I get panic attacks with bac and am alone with kids too. But then realising that bac gives you this helps to return you to the loop of sanity.
