Attempt at commercial gain from bac?
Interesting
At first I thought it was Bill P's website that he said he was working on. Interestingly enough it was like reading the threads on this board, especially about the dreams. As I am always the skeptic, and maybe he really does have an alcohol problem, but I am thinking that he might have stumbled upon this site, found an opportunity to create a site to sell a few books and there you have it. But, if he helps a few people then who am I to criticize.
Everything I need is within me!

Attempt at commercial gain from bac?
Hi guy
I looked at the site with interest ! I on one hand agree that if he is spreading the bac word then that is good , but for me the jury is out he says "Baclofen has taken my weak personality traits by the scruff of the neck, and allowed me to find the strength to face adversity and beat off my demons."
are we not all banging our heads against a wall trying to get this condition recognised as an illness ???? so that statement really does not sit right with me ! I like many others I am sure, will watch this site with interest.
And I have just sent OA an email regurading my progress, had anybody thought of making him aware of this site ? thats assuming he does not know about it altready !
I sincerley hope this guys motives are genuine and he does create a site that can help and inform people !
BH
Baclofen is giving me a life and saving my life !

I think it was Dr. Bill who said he had been corresponding with OA, and yes, OA definitely knows about it and is apparently following it closely, although not participating. Doesn't hurt to send another e-mail though.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. How much can you make from selling a few books?
I am usually cynical but from what I have read on his site I think the good doctor is genuine in his desire to be helpful to the world with what can be a miracle cure for a really debilitating illness.
Good luck to him. I will try and get one of his books and let you all know how I find it.Andy R:

yeah, I tend to agree with Andy on this one.
Also I think that if anyone is going to make serious money from bac, it's going to be the drug company that finally patents an extended release version. I read about two different pharmaceutical companies working on this right now. I would pay good money to just take one pill in the morning rather than spacing things out through the day!

And it seems unlikely this Dr. Phil guy would make a site just to market a couple books he has written. (And what came first-- unlikely that he decided to make money first, and then became an alcoholic and then wrote books about it, so that he could make money).
That said, I admire tip's healthy questioning and sharp skepticism. I also appreciate tip for finding the site and alerting us about it. So, thanks tip!Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. I looked at the site. It doesn't look that commercial to me, at least not yet. He's got an old pic of him practicing surgery, sounds like he hasn't done it in years and some unrelated video.
I think this guy got caught up with the success of his own story and fancied himself as a kind of Amieson or hero himself. BUt it's totally derivative of Dr. O's book. I mean, Dr. O is the one who discovered this and wanted to share it and this is another doctor who can write who followed the book's instructions. He might get some small amount of local press or even an ad on his site? But the real deal is Dr. O. Getting a book published takes a great name and is really hard to do.
Not that they are competing. I think Dr. O wanted to share the story for others and I think this guy's site will help pass on the word. It seems like Phil helped a lot of people here too. Let's let him have his enthusiastic period. Making money off baclofen? Very hard to do. I know some companies are developing long-release drugs but I will believe this product when I see it. Sounds like the titration varies so dramatically from person to person. How could a one-size-fits-all drug fit all the people?
Doesn't seem like something worthy of getting one's knickers in a twist over.

I call "not it"
Not me, I am better looking!
Hey Andy R hope you are doing as doing as good as I last heard from you
Hi brightlite, I am just too busy to work on anything but a board exam even to be here but still as I promised before the end of the year but mine will be video based with graphics. Not text. I can write a text website in an afternoon.
Hi beatle, hope all is well. I did correspond with Dr Ameisen and for others I did make him aware of this discussion board months ago. I have also not corresponded with him as I have been very busy nor my other firends online including all of you, and it was just a few emails exchanged. Probably 12 in total both ways in total. So I am definitely not best buddies with Dr Ameisen. He seemed genuinely thrilled with my progress and I with his updates on his continued professional research with some of the top researches in the field of alcohol and addiction research and treatment.
For what its worth, I think any website is good for others. I think when I first came here, people were more than skeptical of my story based on Dr Ameisen's work. Soon there will be a groundswell and I still as I stated last spring. This will be the gold standard in alcohol and addiction treatment within 10 years.
Soon it will be hard to ignore with all the success stories and websites with personal stories and then the primary care cavemen will read about it in the newspaper rather than the journals they should have read to keep up to date on this. And then, the insurance companies will be forced to pay for it. Which they should embrace as its much much cheaper than inpatient treatment. Outpatient with baclofen therapy is probably 1/20 the eventual price with a higher success rate if you look at 10,000 patients over time.
The bandwagon needs all the members it can including this surgeon and 20 years from now, when it IS accepted, you can look back and say. I was there and I helped contribue to the movement with your posts and stories here and now
Till when I am done with my board exams.

Good luck Bill!
I hope after you come back, you can share some of your experience with having to study intensely and how Bac has affected this (if it has). I am in a similar situation (teaching and studying), and while I never would have taken this on if not for bac, which gave me the confidence to meet the challenge, I am suffering from memory and retention problems, as well as an extreme deficit in my ability to articulate myself (see what I mean?).
I have managed so far, with great difficulty, but also great hope and determination, and I do think it is improving... so, if you have any advice, I'd be most grateful.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life...
