Hi Beatle,
For me, memory and retention is greatly improved without alcohol. No great surprise given how much I drank back then. I am actually surprised how well I functioned and adapted to that level of alcohol use and still could maintain. That is drastically improved since I stopped drinking last spring.
I am funny and vibrant rather than just like f**k, another patient, the endless treadmill.
So that is great for me. Not so great and unusual is that physics puts me to sleep, not just I dont want to study sleep. Like I need to lay down and sleep and I take naps more.
I increased my caffeine use with baclofen loads. I never drink caffeine after alcohol use as it gave me panic attacks and made me sweat. With baclofen I think I used it excessively and then crash when it goes out of my system. I particularly crash when I drink cafeeine after the noon hour. Complete opposite reaction I intended.
When I limited caffeine, well I got the withdrawal headache of course per caffeine withdrawal usuality. But I did not get the swing down.
I am off for a sleep study as I do snore and apnea is a likely culprit. That's where I stop breathing while I sleep. No big deal except that some people awaken several hundred times a night due to that and fall asleep during the day and feel miserable.
I am pretty certain I have sleep apnea, I believe many alcoholics do and many alcoholics will feel loads better if they use cpap therapy if it is warranted.
Sleep apnea disturbs deep sleep, you never get fully rested. I am not aware of any study linking sleep apnea with baclofen. i would think conversely, you get better rest with baclofen as opposed to going to bed drunk.
I think having a sleep study done as I am going to right now, actually as soon as I finish this post. Is an important diagnistic tool in the treatment of alcoholism and also post alcoholism. Hey, if I didnt think it was important, I wouldnt be going to do it right now. And thats because, I think many people who are alcoholic have been sleep deprived for years and then when they can sleep, they have apnea where they stop breathing and interrupt their sleep.
So, food for thought. I got a hospital motel room to sleep at *searching for favorite pillow*
ciao
